Varian won't be like Lord Demanitus because well, he had committed a lot not-so-great crimes even kidnapping Queen Arianna and encased his dad in an amber once...How would Demanitus react to his descendant and teenage prodigy like Varian, to well...be a vengeful scientist/criminal who kidnapped the queen of Corona and almost destroyed the kingdom. Zhan Tiri kept her distances from Varian because of him being a vengeful scientist!
Sooo, umm..It could be coincidences that Varian is a descendant of Lord Demanitus...Otherwise, a ancestor and a descendant won't be the same person...Rather the descendants act differently from their ancestors...Meaning that Varian acts not like Lord Demanitus.

Do you think Zhan Tiri kept her distance from Varian because he reminded her so much of Demanitus that it made her wary? Like the only reason Corona wasn't destroyed by Varian initially was because of magic, something he didn't really devote himself to studying. If he ever did? Kid would somehow get even scarier.
Zhan Tiri definitely knew that. I feel he was a manipulation candidate when he had his villain arc, but the more she studied him the more she could only see a younger version of her old friend. Like:
(I knowww vat7k isn't technically canon but Varian's staff is so cool. And he would absolutely have that if he could.) Uncanny parallels. She took one look at that and went NOPE I'M KEEPING HIM AS FAR AWAY FROM MY PLOT AS POSSIBLE. And she was smart for that.
She had him translate the scrolls and that was IT. She was taking noooo chances with the genius this time around, he might've been on board with her at first if she found him after the storm, but she was not risking a betrayal a second time. And he would've backed out, for sure. Varian didn't actually want to hurt anyone, he was just in pain and justifiably angry.
The less he understood, the better, because lets face it. Varian came up with the amber gun with little understanding of magic and how the moon stone worked. If he ever started to study both magic and alchemy like Demanitus (as in, if Zhan Tiri ever tried to give him any sort of tutelage for being on her side) I pale at the thought of what he could do.

Would grounding Varian be effective in my fanfic? - Well, actually no. Because grounding is when caregivers take away certain privileges or freedoms from a child as a consequence of undesirable behaviours, Quirin probably knows that Varian isn't trying to be destructive with his inventions and ideas, which is why his "punishment" isn't too harsh. Grounding doesn't seem very effective for Varian. Since he likes his time on his own and will probably read or study, as well as be busy with something.
Could Quirin make Marcellus do something in the house? - Besides chores, I could see Quirin making Marcellus go outside to help on the farm or with the villagers.
Did Quirin ever have a problem with Marcellus's albinism? - No, Quirin has no issue is just that it isn't like Varian where he can run around during a sunny day but because Marcellus has albinism and yes he can go outside with the right protection. As long as he can prevent himself from getting burned, there shouldn't be an issue or problem for Quirin.
Why is Quirin a bit protective towards Marcellus? - He was a knight. I think being protective is instilled in his nature, and for raising a teenager with albinism. However, it is vital that Quirin must have accurate information about albinism. He needs support and time to understand the condition of Marcellus. Quirin may need to face some unpleasant stereotypes they have learned about albinism. Varian need to understand why his brother looks different and why he seems to be getting so much attention. There is no single force greater than the family in helping a child understand and accept himself or herself. And Quirin was a knight of the dark kingdom so of course, he is protective towards Varian and Marcellus, but Marcellus gets more attention due to his albinism. It's about as serious as Varian hurting himself, Quirin is a bit wary of things. He may be withdrawn, but is a kind father.
Thinking of how we demonise Don through all we know about her that she was a researcher and know asked her adopted son to look after her ex girlfriendās son, because his mom is dangerous. Her son is a thief, yeah, she gives him some jobs, but considering what we know she isnāt some scary bad big criminal. I mean Quirinās son was a terrorist, so Hugo being a thief isnāt THAT badā¦
You know what kind of the father was Quirin, how desperate for his approval and attention Varian was at his 14, soā¦ uh, not the father of the year definitely. Don seems cold, but loving, soā¦
I personally hate vat7k fics or posts that have Varian being all angsty and crying over Hugo double crossing them. One, because Varian isnāt one to cry easily, he wouldnāt cry over Hugo, and two, because Varian knows all too well that circumstances can lead people to do bad things and he quite literally comes from the kingdom of second chances. Heās a reformed criminal, his brother figure/hero is a reformed criminal, all his friends are reformed criminals, he knows the power that second chances can hold. Everyone who is a bad person has the potential and capacity to still do good and be good, he himself is a country bumpkin turned terrorist turned shadow ruler turned royal engineer.
And Iāve never seen a fic where Hugo promises heās good only to break a promise he made, (mostly because Varian would outright deck him for seemingly no reason and tell him to not make promises) and Varian is frankly too smart to have never considered the possibility of Hugo having alternative motives (the guy steals a totem then comes back wanting to be friends??? It doesnāt make sense; obviously Varian would theorize).
Donāt get me wrong, Varian would be absolutely pissed at first and would probably storm into the eternal library out of spite. It just wouldnāt be in a āIām crying and need to escape this situationā kind of way. More in a āIām so pissed and Iām so stupid I need to cool off and come back to this laterā kind of way. Although he doesnāt get to come back for a while afterā¦
.......Even when you know all these things... It doesn't make betray hurt any less..... Even when you see it coming, even when you know they may not mean it the way it seems, that doesn't dull pain and heartache. You can understand something but not be healed. You can expect it, and it can still hurt just as much. Had Varian let his suspicions guide him, and NOT fallen in love and gotten attached to the point he TRUSTED Hugo, then it may not have hurt as much. And I think- correct me if I'm wrong plz, Varian would have told them abt HIS secrets by the time that they reach the eternal library. I wouldn't be surprised if Varian let his guard down fully expecting that in the moment of vulnerability that they shared, Hugo would confess himself... And while I do agree Varian isn't as weak as some may portray him, he has more emotion than others allow him. Pain hurts. No matter if you expected it or not, if you believe in second chances, or if you can relate, betray is betray. Pain is pain. Let him cry, let him hurt. He gave Hugo his second chance.
I used to believe with all my heart and soul that Varianās jail sentence was too harsh. He was sent to prison for presumably a life sentence before he broke out while the thief kids and Cassandra got off practically scott-free. Then I thought about the world the show is set in.
I will always hold the opinion that Disney shows made as sequels to movies always ruin the worlds theyāre set in. The characters from the movie are made into caricatures of themselves and the lore is changed so much for plotās sake that itās nearly unrecognizable. An example of this would be Big Hero 6 the series, wherein I remember an episode where Hiro goes bot fighting again. His friends are all harsh with telling him to stop while heās being secretive about enjoying it. If the characters retained their personalities and relationships from the movie, that would not be the case. Hiroās friends in the movie supported him regardless of whether he continued bot fighting or not, and they were able to make jokes about him being an ex-bot fighter because of it. Hell, Callahanās daughter was a bot fighter and it seemingly had no impact on her life or future, seeing as she was able to graduate college and get a nice job at the competitorās company.
Because of the severity of character death and bastardization, the world and its lore changing is moreso overlooked, even though itās just as bad, if not worse. Using Big Hero 6 the series as an example yet again, the movie was all about superpowers through scientific means. It was realistic for the world the movie was set in. The series, however, featured villains that veered more into supernatural territory. Cyborgs and Death Stroke are fine, even though the movie didnāt hint to things like that being possible, but villains who conduct electricity from a weird orb? Youāve lost me.
Another great example of world lore bending for a seriesā plot is Tangled the series. Specifically, the Corona kingdomās code of law.
In the movie, Flynn Rider was a thief. He stole the royal princessā crown and was sentenced to the gallows. And of course the argument could be made that Eugene had stolen a bunch of other stuff before that and was most likely already wanted dead or alive, but the crux of the matter is that all of his crimes were thievery. He never harmed anyone or attempted to, but he wouldāve been killed anyway because Coronaās code of law was that harsh.
Compared to Eugene almost getting hanged, Varian and Cassandra both got off way too easily. Both of them actively tried to cause harm to the people of Corona and especially the Royal family. Varian in particular tried to murder the entire royal family in cold blood, not to mention drugging the royal guard, drugging and kidnapping the queen, stealing āthe most powerfulā artifact in the all the seven kingdoms, terrorizing the citizens with a giant monster and automatons, etc. etc. If Flynn Rider in the Tangled movie was sent to the gallows for stealing, Varian should have been killed several times over even if he was ājust a childā as King Frederick would put it.
So why werenāt Varian and Cassandra both put on death row for what they did? Because of the showās target audience. Tangled the series is a kids show, so obviously the rating and things shown must be for kids. This is another reason why Disney sequel shows feel disjointed from their movies, because the tone and sometimes content has to be watered down and filtered for a more focused audience scope. Adults arenāt the ones who will be generating the most cash for these shows, so they canāt put in adult content like the death penalty.
Varianās sentence wasnāt too harsh, itās simply that everyone in the show got off too easily. Their punishments were not proportionate to their crimes in comparison to the movie. Imagine if Flynn Rider also just got a jail sentence. A lot of the stakes in relation to it would be lost.
Marcellus took Trickster to the living room of the house, in Old Corona, as he places the pet on the couch, the albino raccoon crawled on the couch before looking at their owner with concernā¦The pet hadn't seen Marcellus this quiet, it's been a whole week since the reveal that Varian was the Moondrop that controlled the black rocks.
He wore his original outfit, which was muted brown button-up collared shirt with Ā¾ length sleeves, red stringy ribbon, a dark brown short ruffled coat, black fingerless gloves, red bow like belt, muted dark brown pants and black boots.
While there were mentions and talks about Varian being the Moonstone Opal, this was the first time it wasn't just a rumour spread like usual but an actual coincidences and occurrences. Rapunzel, obtained the powers as a baby due to the Sundrop flower and how the king had taken it to help with his sick wife which made Rapunzel have these powers, while it's been 10 monthsā¦Where she was Sundrop-free after Eugene saved the princess from her kidnapper, but after 6 months where her powers returned back and the black rocks were a taboo topic nowā¦Not even the princess talked about it because of her father, even Quirin too, keeping the information secret to Marcellus and Varian.
Now that Varian has these powers obtained after the princess's powers came back from the mysterious rocks, this became like a hush-hush to them. After it was revealed, Quirin became a little more stern to Varian than he ever was.
Flashback (6 months)
At Old Corona, in the house at night. Marcellus draws something on his journal as Varian watches and his legs swinging side by side, the alchemist leans on his shoulder.
Varian: "You know, all of thisā¦Got me tired."
Marcellus: "Ohā¦"
Varian: "ā¦How am I gonna tell this to Dad? Is he gonna be afraid now that the moonstone opal returned to me?" he asked, worriedly.
Marcellus: "You should someday, but not right nowā¦Knowing how this affected you," he said sympathetically.
Varian: "ā¦" he chuckles nervously, "Whatever floats anyone's boat." he rubs his eyes.
Quirin: "Varian," he enters the room.
Varian: "Hey, Dad!" he gets up from the couch to rush to give his father a hug. "How did things went so far?" he asked, tilting his head. "We and Marcus had so much together," he hum a tuneā¦Until he saw his dad ruffles his hair until he notice his hair glowing. He cringed in fear, as his hair turned blue.
Quirin: "Varian?" his eyes furrowed, "Why is your hair glowing?" he asked, worriedly.
Varian: "Well, I-Iā¦"
Quirin: "Were you running off to the woods, yesterday?"
Varian: "Maybeā¦"
Quirin: "ā¦Varianā¦We need to talk privately at your room," he sternly said as Varian's eyes darted.
Varian: "What?"
Quirin: "Come with me, right this instant." he yells at him, as Varian nods worriedly.
Varian: "Yes, sir."
As the two left the living room, as Marcellus stands up from the couch to follow them. Ruddiger crawled on his shoulder, as Trickster follows him.
In Varian's bedroom. Quirin clasped his arms behind his body, sternly looking at Varian. As Marcellus adjusted the cuff of his sleeve, the man broke the silence:
Quirin: "It seems like you snuck out of Old Corona to go and explore somewhere, but you decided to find mysterious rocks which resulted to you getting your powers. Son?"
Varian: "Dad, I just felt the need to take a time alone. I just followed some bunch of people who were going to some place where the mysterious rocks are atā¦I didn't know the moonstone opalā¦Will return back to me, I thought it would never happen."
Quirin: "Varianā¦You know how much I was worried about you getting these powers, I didn't wanna see that fate that happened to your late-mother happen to you as well."
Varian: "But Dad, you know I wouldn't died from it."
Quirin: "Have you recalled the moonstone opal?" he asked, worriedly. "The opal that gave people the power of destruction, which that power you've gotten would risk people from death, ruin, decay, disintegration, nothingness and destruction to those around it."
Varian: "What?"
Quirin: "ā¦Varian, you need to realize your powers are destructive." he spoke, worriedly. "I never wanna have you die like your late-mother."
Varian: "ā¦"
Quirin Wipes a tear from his own face: "Just please don't risk yourself with these powersā¦" he exited the room, as Varian bit his lip before tears began to form in his eyes and shook.
Varian: "How did I not realize that?" he asked, angrily.
Marcellus: "Varian?" he closed the door, as Varian sat on the bed with his head drooped.
At night, Marcellus slept gently on the bed as his prosthetic leg laid aside the nightstand, as the translucent teenager wore a an oversized red shirt in the wardrobe and neutral black pants.
Varian: "Marcus," he shakes his shoulder but the pale teen was asleep which he sighs. "Sorry for bothering you," his head drooped.
As he rolls out of bed and goes towards the window, as he gazes off to the window.
Varian: "Back to life after happily ever after. Trapped again in this world
I have to endure
Stuck inside, once again and I'm gazing out.
True that my intentions could be dangerous, but I'm still missing out."
He touches his hair streak.
Varian: "But I wish that I could more than that, prove to my father
I am less dangerousā¦"
As the wind blows through his hair, gently. Sighing deeply, he closes his eyes and crossing his arms against the window.
Varian: "And share the world around me, enjoy the scenery for once.
Be the person I could, achieve the goal I wished to earn.
I'll be out there, I swear with the wind in my haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaair."
End of flashback
Trickster: "Rrrrrrrrrā¦" the pet chittered, worriedly.
Marcellus: "All of this that happened from months agoā¦It's hard to believe that Varian isn't the Moonstone Opal, he possess these powers from negativityā¦But also when he shows negativeā¦Emotions that come from the Moondropā¦" he told to himself, "Ever since the months that passed from thisā¦Varianā¦Well, could be the Moonstone Opalā¦The teal streak on his hairā¦Proves me otherwise, it was not from alchemy incidentā¦But he hid it to avoid mentioning the powersā¦After it was gone, it's almost like Varian's teal streak hadn't disappeared, after obtaining the Moondrop, it began to glow each time he expresses something negative or darker within him." he thought to himself, "Maybe the whole Varian being the Moonstone makes senseā¦Now, it's been a whole week after the Expo, that he became way quieter and avoidant of seeing me."
Before his thoughts were cut short by Quirin, coming inside the living room.
Quirin: "Hey, sonā¦Haven't you seen your brother? That silly boy had ran off like always, hence why he hasn't come home just yet." he said, annoyedly.
Marcellus: "I don't knowā¦"
Quirin: "Me neither, I don't what Varian was doing after the Expo had ended, it's possible that he ran off like alwaysā¦" he sighed, "Anyways. Marcellus, how about I mak-" he stopped at mid-sentence when he noticed the burnt arm, "Marcellusā¦" he walked towards him, with concern as he held his hand gently. "H-How, when did this happen?"
Marcellus: "ā¦"
Quirin: "Tell me, please. Who had done this to you?" he asked, with mix of worry and sadness.
Marcellus: "Dadā¦"
Quirin: "That burnt, looks like charcoalā¦" he spoke with a stern tone.
Marcellus: "Please, Varianā¦" he moved towards Varian, as presses a hand on his shoulder which resulted to Marcellus's arm getting burned, he cringed as he saw his hand burnt from the Moondrop.
Cassandra: "ā¦"
Marcellus: "Varian, stopā¦" he protects himself with his good arm. "STOP!"
As the teenage alchemist from the Moondrop's control caused the black rocks to occur even more, as Marcellus shuts his eyes and Cassandra pulled him away.
Marcellus: "When after Dr. St. Croix activated Varian's machine during the Expo, Varian's Moondrop powers triggered and it resulted to black rocks spawning and occurring around the kingdom, I-I for one tried to save him but ended up burning my hand from the powersā¦Insteadā¦This happened a week now, and it's already a fresh memory from how Varian might trigger the Moonstone Opal each time his emotions get the best of him."
Quirin: "So it was Varian that burnt your armā¦"
Marcellus *Slightly bending over: "Please, Dadā¦Whatever happened, I'm still fineā¦None of this is Varian's fault, his powers triggered from his emotional response, I shouldn't have done thatā¦It's my fault that I even tried to save him when his powers droveā¦"
Quirin: "It doesn't explain what he's done to you, his inventions drove you to more injuries and thisā¦THIS, is ENOUGH to tell me that Varian had lost control of Moonstone Opalā¦"
Marcellus: "DAD, YOU HAD TO UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT VARIAN'S GOING THROUGH COULD SPARK HIS MOONDROP POWERS, EACH EMOTION HE MAKES WOULD CAUSE HARM TO ANYONEā¦BUT TO ME, IT DIDN'T KILL ME, IT JUST LEFT A BURNT MARK ON MY ARM, I'VE NEVER SHOULD'VE GONE THERE TO SAVE HIM KNOWING HOW HIS POWERS ENDED UP WORKINGā¦VARIAN'S MOONSTONEā¦IT COULD'VE KILLED ME BUT IT DIDN'T, IT'S MY FAULTā¦" he shouted at himself, his hands clasped over his head.
Quirin: "I know how much you care for Varian but he causes you harm with the inventions he makes, you can't be near him without ending up either hurt or damaged by the things he createsā¦.It not only hurts you but could hurt or kill anyoneā¦So, please Marcellus, don't even approach him, let alone risk your life to his inventionsā¦"
Marcellus: "You want him dead, Dadā¦" his head drooped, "I've only did it to save Varian from getting hurt and killed, I risked my life so he doesn't end up risking hisā¦If I hadn't saved himā¦Varian could've died from it." his tears rolled down his face.
Quirin: "Marcellus, please listenā¦I'm not prohibiting you for doing the right thing to save Varian, that's a brave choice and I'm proud of you for itā¦But please understand that, that Varian's inventions had caused you to get hurt, and I don't want you to become protective over something that ends up risking your lifeā¦.So please," he grabs his shoulder and kneels down. "Don't try to let him do harm to you than he already did."
Marcellus: "Okayā¦sirā¦" his head bowed, "I promise I won't do this to myself and risking my health and life for all of thisā¦"
Quirin: "Goodā¦" he let go off his shoulders, "I'm sorry for how I soundedā¦I'm just as concern of you as I am with Varianā¦Is just that, you are far weaker than Varian so I am far more protectiveā¦with you, even more so than Varian."
Marcellus: "ā¦"
The man gave him a hug, as Marcellus returned the gesture with his good hand. Quirin cannot help but feel guilty for telling Marcellus not to be near Varian, but he knows how dangerousā¦Varian's powers could be, so he won't wanna risk Marcellus like his late-wife even Varianā¦To death, as he pulls away as he stood up.
Quirin: "I'll make us something, please don't go near Varian when his powers trigger, alright?"
Marcellus: "Yes, sir."
The man cringed when he heard Marcellus call him "Sir", but yet he didn't cared when his own son said it so he let it slide, he walked off from the living room to make some food. As the raccoon jumped out of the couch to comfort their owner, as they curled around Marcellus's leg.
Marcellus: "ā¦"
Flashback (1 year ago)
While the 16-year-old tidied the bed of Varian's bedroom since he shares a bed with Varian, neatly fixing the sheets of the bed and places the pillows as he took care of the house, preferring to them as "chores" but not like typical house chores, but the types that molded Marcellus to becoming a "Mature person" long before becoming an adultā¦As the pale teen neatly taken care of the room, until a door creaked open.
Varian: "I've been having a lot of fun having to make all kinds of side experiments, I might need to see how a certain compound could react to another one." he blabbered, "Maybe finding outā¦How strong certain metals could be?"
Marcellus: "ā¦"
Varian: "Also the breathable materials throughout the house greatly helped Marcellusā¦Speaking of, Marcellus." he stopped when he noticed the teen cleaning his bed, "Marcusā¦What are you doing?" he asked, curiously. "Are you tidying the bed?" he tilts his head.
Marcellus: "ā¦" he nods slightly.
Varian: "Anyways, wanna see a cool compound I've created?" he hum a tune, "Like you'll totally be blown out of your mind to get to know how much compounds I could make in one fell-swoop."
Marcellus: "ā¦" he folds the dirty sheets in a basket, as Varian stood there.
Varian: "Marcusā¦"
He carried the basket to the bathroom, as Varian watched from the distances and looked at him with nothing but mere sadness.
Varian: "Marcus," he knocked him from the back which ended up causing the basket to fall on his head and landed on the floor and on him. "Oh, I'm sorryā¦" he reached out, "I shouldn't have doneā¦Thatā¦" he offered a helping hand. He shook, he saw Ignatius's black figure chuckled with his hands resting on his hips. His lips quivered, as words from him echoed in his head.
"What a clumsy fool"
"Don't be such a mistake to people's eyes, Albino."
"Why must you be this stupid?"
Marcellus: "Sor-Sorry, I-I h-had t-to g-go an-and ta-take ca-care o-of th-thisā¦" he whispered with a trembling way, as he stood up with difficulties as he took the dirty shirt from his head and places on the basket and trudges with strain. The wooden prosthetic leg caused a strain on him, as he went to the bathroom with a pained expression.
Varian: "That's how he sounded, no wonder, his voice shaken up and even his body tooā¦Scared of talking because what Dad said, from the time's his own parents forced him to be silent as a punishmentā¦" he avoids eye contact, as he saw the door slightly opened by mistake. The teenager accidently left the door open to the point Varian saw the whole picture, as he stepped towards the door.
Marcellus: "O-Okayā¦" he took a dirty shirt and began to clean it with soapy water, until he didn't notice Varian watching.
Varian Shrugs: "Oh, that's what you've been doingā¦You tidied the bedroom and washing the dirty clothes and sheets."
Marcellus: "Ig-Ignatius, plea-pleaseā¦I-I don-don't hav-have tim-time fo-for th-this, I-I n-need t-to d-do ch-chores aro-aroun-around t-the hou-house a-as th-the li-list sa-said." his voice, shaky while his body froze.
Varian: "Ignatius?" he moved towards Marcellus, which caused Marcellus shaking. The alchemist doesn't know how to handle someone that is traumatized, yet it's his new adoptive brotherā¦Scared of being punished and sounding like this shaken up, it's like watching someone at a breaking point. "I'm not Ignatius," he sounded confused.
Marcellus: "Ign-Ignatius, pl-pleaseā¦Yo-You w-won't w-want m-me t-to b-be p-punished b-by M-Mom a-and D-Dad." he stopped, as he huddle in a corner.
The teenage alchemist froze.
Varian: "Dadā¦" his shoulder hunched, "Please helpā¦" his brows knitted into a frown. But his father is too busy with duties, so he sighed and tried to sound as reassuring as possible to maybe try and ease his shoulders. "Marcellus, whoever Ignatius isā¦He's not in our house, you don't need to be afraid anymore."
As Varian moved closer to Marcellus, non-threateningly as he kneels on the floor.
Marcellus: "N-Noā¦H-He's t-there, gr-grinning a-at m-meā¦P-Probably g-gonna t-tell M-Mom a-and D-Dad a-about w-what I-I j-just d-did." he shook, as his shoulders hunched.
Varian: "Heyā¦He's not there, I'll assure you that he's not in our house and he'll never will beā¦I'm sorry for how much pain he's caused youā¦"
Marcellus: "ā¦"
The pale teenager shrinks back, his eyes remained unfocused as they moved involuntarily and blinked, he breathed heavily. But then Varian taps his shoulder, which caused him to panic. Marcellus's panic state really is hard to watch, Varian was not new to having someone severely if not so traumatized that it's difficult to stare at someone like this.
He won't bare to watch Marcellus in this state, as Varian hugged him around the stomach. Marcellus tried to flinch from the touch but he failed, this made him became severely traumatized from it and began to sob, wrenching sob coming from a scarred teenager made Varian tremble, yet he cannot let go off him when he not only panic but cried.
Varian: "There, thereā¦It's okayā¦It's gonna be overā¦"
End of flashback
The teen shakes his head, when he realized that this was a flashback to how he behaved towards Varian and it wasn't well the best impression, he struggled to differentiate between him and Ignatius. It took him times to accept the teenage alchemist as well, a different person that actually care for him and his well-being, the trauma got rooted inside him that Marcellus cannot stop himself from thinking that Varian might end up like his own birth brother.
He's scared that Varian will end up in the dark path if something bad happens to the teen of Old Corona. He won't bare to watch his only inner circle of support become a vengeful alchemistā¦He won't, that's gonna lower his self-esteem to a zero if that happened, Varianā¦He'll turn to the dark path if Quirin either dies or gets hurt.
His body shook, he'll not let this happenā¦Varian being his last resource of comfort if the village leader either dies or is withdrawn by something. He tugged at his own hair, shaking his headā¦Varian, if something worse happens to him, he'll watch him seep into darkness even more than he did, Varian becoming the vary thing people rumoured.
The teen fell on his knees, his hands curled into fists as he showed visible stress from it. The raccoon sensing his stressed state, crawled on his lap and laid there.
Trickster nuzzled on Marcellus's lap.
Marcellus: "Ma-Make i-it st-stop, ma-make i-it s-stop." he shakes his head, he played with his hair anxiously. "I-If V-Varian e-ever t-turns t-to t-the d-dark s-side, I-I'll l-lose th-the v-very per-personā¦T-That g-got m-me o-out o-of m-my she-shell."
While, Varian hid from the doorframe of the living room while he watch him spiral over this.
Varian: "ā¦"
Marcellus: "V-Varian, yo-you wo-won't tu-turn e-evil, pl-pleaseā¦" he whispered to himself, "A-Anythingā¦I-I'll l-lose s-someone t-that s-sparked m-my con-confidencesā¦"
Varian: "ā¦"
Hours had passed, and Marcellus took a deep breath as he stroked the albino raccoon's head as he cracked a nervous smile, while Quirin came back with something he made as he walked closer to the sofa and places them on the table, it's a croissant that the translucent teen used to make for the orphanage in Old Corona.
Quirin: "I hadn't tried making these, when I was originally trying to figure out what I should be making, a thought came to mind when you used to make these for an orphanage in Old Coronaā¦I immediately went with it, and I made oneā¦" he smiled, as he sat on the other couch.
Marcellus: "Thanksā¦"
Quirin: "So, Marcellusā¦Had any plans on what you'll give to the princess in the next month following?" he asked, curiously.
Marcellus: "ā¦Maybe a gift I made for herā¦" he laughed, "I made it for her and it's in Varian's bedroom."
Quirin: "That's quite nice of you, she'll love it." he smiled with his eyes closed.
Marcellus: "ā¦"
Quirin: "There's duties in Old Corona, that you'll need to take care off in the next weekā¦I'll need to remind you on it, because it's a big dayā¦But then again, you'll need to wear something protective like a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreenā¦" he reminded him.
Marcellus: "Thanksā¦"
Quirin: "Also have you tasted the croissant?"
Marcellus Grabs it: "ā¦"

At Kingdom of Corona, Cassandra drew nearer to a gift shop that she decided that she'll buy a gift for Rapunzel, she plans on buying her friend a present because she prefers to surprise herā¦Until the lady-in-waiting rested a hand on her hip, when she looked to see Rapunzel with Eugene, who were talking and laughing.
I think the storyboards of Varian being sad could be followed up to two versions:
Before Rapunzel freed Varian's dad from the amber, which is correct, the storyboards were centred on Rapunzel freeing Quirin from the amber.
Varian explains what happened when Quirin WAS in the amber when Rapunzel freed him which resulted in Quirin not joining Varian during the celebration of Rapunzel's return and being appointed as the queen. Leaving Varian alone, with disappointment.
Tangled the series being "she got the desire to live her own life and see the world out of her system before settling down for marriage" pilled, when the show went into hyper specific plots that revolved around her wanting the exact opposite for an entire season is something that's irritated me for the past 6 years.
Not to be anti marriage necessarily, but I feel like traveling a year (?) and not even for leisurely purposes would never have been enough for her. She spent her entire life not being allowed to so much as go outside. Just to go back to being stuck within the walls of a kingdom, with slightly more freedom than she initially had. Obviously directly after the journey, (and especially with how it ended) she was excited to go home, but the fact that they tried to act like she was just done with traveling as a whole was kind of depressing to me
I'm aware she was pretty much legally obligated to run the kingdom eventually, but I think they tried to portray it as a very satisfying ending when it wasn't.
It always bugged me that they decided to portray marriage as the end of her adventures, rather than acknowledging that two people in their 20s still have a lot of life ahead of them.
Most kings and queens don't gracefully retire and pass the duty of ruling down to their heirs, they die, and the heir takes over at that point. I think it's much safer to say that it's unlikely that Frederic or Arianna would be going anywhere beyond their cabin in the mountains for any sort of extended period of time, and that Rapunzel, along with Eugene, would be able and willing to do all long-distance dignitary work, which could easily include sightseeing and exploring along the way.
(All this to say: I agree with you. It was lukewarm writing to imply that she'd be satisfied now.)
