Danny meets more addams
Danny didnt know what to make of man driving him somewhere that was distinctly Not His Haunt. Not that it’d felt like his haunt for a long time… Sam cutting him out of the trio and making him and Tucker a duo again? Hurt. Tucker pulling back? He may as well have had a rusted saw amputate his arms.
He still feels like he’s only got his legs most days.
Then his parents pulled the rug out from under him when they found out. Sudden silences and more avoidance than he could bear. Especially with Jazz out looking at colleges with Spike. They were debating some in New York State and seeing which college towns had ‘the vibes’.
Which left Danny alone for two weeks with his parents while they toured here and there.
Alone with only the ghosts he fights and sort of befriended for company, eating infinite realms takeout on the roof.
Ember and Johnny didn’t hide their worry when he admitted his parents found out. Kitty barely glanced at Shadow before telling Johnny that “if shit goes south, we’re nabbing him and running back home—deaths be damned.”
It was a finality he didn’t expect from the trio (quartet? He never knows where shadow stands on counting or not), but a welcome one.
Ember scrunched her nose back then. “You want to subject babyface here to the mobs that raised your crazy asses? The Gotham mobs to babyface McsqueaksALot?”
“Mafia,” Johnny corrected absently while Kitty practically stabbed the air with how she said it.
“Mob is Russian, and we don’t like them!” Kitty continued, stabbing her lo mein far too aggressively.
Danny tore a bit of naan and dunked it in the curry sauce that Ember recommended him. He knew it was green and tasted good, and planned to eat the meat portion for lunch. School already hated him, not much to care about with his reputation or what anyone would say or think.
“Did you ever get back at the ones who—“
Shadow bumped him a bit too hard to be an accident. “Got it, nevermind. So i am being kidnapped—“
“Rescued,” kitty interjected.
“—to Gotham, crime capital of the world, if you dont hear from me daily?”
“If Boxy wasn’t carrying Lunchbox’s core right now, it’d be hourly babyface.”
Danny sighed softly at that.
“Think i could take the portal with me?”
The group hummed at that.
“I mean, its part of you and sort of your grave, deathsite and awakening spot so it may stop working if you’re gone for too long. Its your shadow, just more fixed.”
Danny stayed quiet while Ember and the others worked out the logistics of setting up a fake ID for Danny, which players he’d have to watch out for and ways to avoid their attention.
Danny drifted off into his naan.
Today though, he really wished he’d have paid more attention to their advice.
“So Danny, i hear you’re a fellow member of the Undead club!” The too pale corpse of man began, enthusiastically offering a hand when Danny came home. “Put ‘er there! Now, given your situation, your folks agreed to hand over your day to day and the legal stuff to me and my clan—not everyone’s undead, but all some sort of supernatural so you won’t be lonely! Let’s grab your things while the paperwork is finished up, and we can talk about your new adventures!”
Danny went through the motions and froze when his parents took his phone. The one with everyone’s number in it. Old messages with Sam and Tucker that kept him going on bad days. Inside jokes. Texts from Valerie and the few times they texted the L-word to each other before she dumped him to try and keep him safe from her heroics. Jazz was in there and he didn’t know how to find her without his phone.
He knew his parents would tamper with mail. They committed tax fraud for the whole town—what’s a mail tampering charge compared to that?
The guy kept talking while Danny’s whole life was reduced to two suitcases.
Running into Valerie and the weirdo’s forethought was a stroke of luck he desperately needed before leaving.
The world should have crashed down on him in that car-ride. It didn’t.
“There’s something wrong with me,” he muttered at one point during the guy’s ravings about this family Danny would be staying with, and could join in whatever way worked for him, whenever the fancy struck him.
The corpse paused mid-word before stating, “now Danny, i won’t pretend to understand what being transformed into a halfa and all of this going on before I was given the honor of taking you in, but there is nothing wrong with you, just the people that can’t accept you as you’ve become. Normal people are the most terrifying observable creatures as they shun and cut ties for reasons that make no sense.
Being Undead is a medical condition. Would you drop a friend for having the flu? What about losing a limb?”
Danny shook his head.
“Congratulations then! You’re ooky and kooky, and in good company!”
“I’m a ghost, i’m leaving my haunt and it’s,” Danny scrubbed his hands over his face.
“A baby ghost. You know it takes seven years for a ghost to settle? You can’t even form a proper haunt bond until then, and fraid bonds don’t form unless both parties agree and are aware.”
“So you’re telling me my only fraid bond is with the damn gorilla!”
“A lovely choice of company, if i do say so myself. Now, your ghost acquaintances may be able to find you as until your core is settled and solid, its giving off a type of sound akin to pheromones for the living that is very trackable.”
“Wait, is that how skulker could always find me? Screw his ‘superior hunting skills’ schtick, he’s cheating!”
The corpse nodded along, like he knew anything about Skulker. “Don’t you worry Danny, Gomez, Wednesday, and myself can educate this entity on what actual hunting skills are!”
Danny snorted, still not sure who any of these people are or the guy that got custody of him’s name.
“Suuuure,” Danny agreed half-heartedly. “So, Ember and Kitty can track me back to Gotham and make it?”
“More than that if they see you as a mentee.”
“Well whatever school i’m shipped off to better be ready for Sydney.” Danny had no doubts about the first ghost he’d made a solid pact and alliance with would not only follow him to his new school, but actively haunt the bullies by taking the excess ecto off Danny’s hands while he wasnt needed as a ghostly hero.
“Oh, that will be a fun surprise! Wednesday says the academy is quite boring without some magic, and the mystery club hasn’t had anything to investigate for a few months. Should be a good one for next year.”
Danny opened and shut his mouth, checking his phone for Valerie’s number.
He smiled when he saw she sent him a selfie in her favorite yellow shirt—the one with yellow daisies embroidered into it from her mom before she passed back in elementary.
He added it to her contact info and sent a waving emoji.
She sent one back and asked if he made it to the new place yet.
He got lost in messaging her and the smile each reply gave him. He missed the car stopping and his corspified guardian grabbing his things from the trunk.
“Danny, time to meet everyone!” The guy called out.
Danny jumped through the car roof and shot into a tree. He texted Valerie that they arrived.
She sent a thumbs up and a few clovers.
His heart was practically slush at those lines of code.
He did go intangible to escape the tree branches and flew back down, waiting on the step beside the excited corpse holding his luggage and pulling a rope.
Funeral bells rang, then a low groan and discount frankenstien greeted him with a grunt and ghostspeak greetingsHellow and welcomeInacceptanceWarmth hit Danny like a truck.
“Lurch! Thanks for getting the door.”
Frankenstien’s monster groaned again, ofcourseFamilywelcomeHowwasDay?WhoisNewfriend?
“This is my ward, Danny! We’re working out the last name and if he wants to be mainline or branch for that. Danny, this is Lurch! He’s the family butler, and one the side of less verbal undead. Danny is this thing called a halfa I mentioned last week—don’t worry, Grandmama is going through her contact to find out what you’d be called properly and not the uh, bad word that halfa is, or implies you to be!”
Before Danny could process that, Lurch snatched the luggage in one go while more people barreled into the entrance area.
“Fester!” That answered one of Danny’s questions.
“Gomez!” The corpse yelled back, quick to run up and hug the man.
“Good to see you back in one piece! Now, is this the Danny you mentioned?”
Danny barely nodded before he was pulled into a hug and kissed on both cheeks. “Wonderful my boy, simply splendid! I hear you enjoy the stars? We don’t get them much at this manor, but we do have an old observatory you can have if you’d like! We don’t get much use out of it, so we leave it open for the public but not many take advantage of it.”
Danny barely blinked before he was let go of as a smaller set of arms nabbed him.
“Dad, can we take Cousin Danny for a gravewalk tonight? I want to introduce him to the ancestors!” A pudgy blond asked while grinning up at Danny. “I’m Pugsley! I like to build toys for me and Wednesday like anti-gravity guns. Do you want to meet Aristotle? He’s my octopus and he’s really cool!”
Danny nodded along, and noted he’d probably be helping Pugsley out in the future or found a potential lab partner in this situation at least.
“Pugsley, let me get in too! Hi Cousin Danny! I’m Wednesday, and we get to take classes together since i skipped a grade again last year! If you ever want to know more about why the bermuda triangle is the perfect storm for disappearances i have a power point! Oh, and I’m in charge of chemistry and physics experiments!”
“Wednesday, Puglsey, you should let go of him before you spook our new friend?” Another voice chimed in from above.
The pair did release him from the barrage of hugs at least.
A woman in a black floor length dress descended the stairs.
“Cara mia!”
“Not now gomez. Later,” she turned her sights to Danny. “Hello Danny, it’s a pleasure to welcome you into our home. You can call me Morticia or Aunt Morticia if you’d ever like. Why don’t we all go to the dining room? I’m sure Grandmama made something special to welcome our new friend.”
Danny wasn’t quite sure, but he was fairly certain she had some of the same abilities as Ember and himself, but not quite.
Morticia smiled knowingly at him. “Witchcraft runs in our family on the maternal side. Wednesday has signs of a gift, but i can’t say for certain what. Plants are where my sister and i thrived our whole lives. I can introduce you to them later—all carnivorous. Gomez is allergic to pollen.”
Danny nodded numbly, following the others at Fester’s insistence.
—
So, as i wrote in my parts of the OG prompt, keeping original Wednesday’s personality as we need more whimsigoth allergic to dyes used in non-black colors. Hopefully i got pugsley right, and the lore was not dump-y.
As always, feel free to add on. If anyone can work out what grandmama should be making, chances of update are higher but i’m running on inspo and timing for writing.
