The armored sock worm’s are very easy to breed, thus they are a popular carnival prize given out to young inhabitants of aNu. Although, they aren’t the best quality and tend to die shortly after.
Another problem is that most Sock Worms grow at an astounding rate, nearly tripling in size in only a mater of days. Because of this, keeping one as a pet is a very demanding task, requiring lots of food and space.
Most tend to release their worms into the wild, where they are most likely eaten by predators. However, some have been reported to survive and even thrive in low threat environments, potentially reaching sizes only recorded in urban legends.
used to be a christian rock girlie in my tweens/early teens, and my favorite was A Road Less Traveled. I haven't seen many headcanons for what Dim did while in the underwhere after the events of SPM. Here's my idea: Dim was unsurprisingly punished for his wrongdoings by queen Jaydes. Queen Jaydes took something from him before casting him down into the depths of River Twygz.
He couldn't be contained long however, and eventually he escaped.

I think that in universe, the human pet thing had been kind of an open secret in certain circles for. Going on decades. But it wasn’t so centralized, it was just individuals who got their hands on trafficked humans.
It would’ve been Samuel and Rose Whitaker who put in the work to organize the system, those two being Cain’s grandparents. His father, Charles Whitaker was their oldest son and would’ve been a young adult at the time of them beginning this “business”.
Essentially, they saw the potential in it. People would pay for human pets, and people would pay for these human pets to be mentally destroyed trained. They’d pay for supplies, for services, anything to keep the activity within their specific circles. The holding/training facilities, as well as the arena and facilities within that underground area are their doing. They organized the system to work more smoothly for them, which would extend to similar people across the world who may need their services. The pet business was not their primary business, they were rich bastards long before that, but especially so after this began.
They were the old fashioned type. They maintained control over the system as long as they could- of course there were countless people working under their orders and handling important aspects but they always had the final say. They wanted that control to remain in the family, thus Charles took over when they retired, and he chose to pass that to Cain only in the instance of his death- however he considered breaking that rule to pass it to Nicholas instead, Cain was the one chosen in the end.
