Book Review #59 of 2025--
Mixed Signals by B.K. Borison. Rating: 3.75 stars.
Read from August 17th to 21st.
I feel like I'm the odd one out with this series. The first book was my favorite and each book after has been getting just very slightly worse for me. I mean, this one still got almost 4 stars so it's not like it's a bad book. But I've heard from so many people that each book just keeps getting better and I feel the opposite. Maybe I just love Christmas too much to start there and go through the rest of the seasons? Who knows. I enjoyed Caleb and Layla as a couple and I hope we get some of them in the last book too just like we got some Stella/Luke and Beckett/Evie in this one.
I love the whole world of Lovelight Farms. If I could live there year round, I would do it. This farm and the small town around it just has so much charm and joy to it. I love returning to it every time. There is such atmosphere to the story, but I also just really enjoy Layla and Caleb as characters. I think Layla and I would get along so well. She's such a fun character but also manages to have some struggles of her own to deal with. Especially during the whole third act break up (which was one that I didn't hate for once!). The whole premise of them practice dating for a month was fun and sweet. I love that he wanted to show her what she deserves. She was supposed to point out his flaws while doing this experiment but you could tell right away that they were just too smitten to do so. I loved Caleb's patience. He's such a sweetheart and I love how open he is to love whether it's his love for his friends and his family or his love for Layla. He's such a great male love interest.
I struggled with a few things. The scene where Layla is going to have an interview with a magazine about the bakehouse and something goes wrong--that made me so fucking anxious. I mean, it makes sense for plot reasons and the characters got through it, but just reading it produced so much anxiety which reduced my enjoyment of the book. I also struggled with the sex scenes. This seemed to be the author's take on Inexperienced Girl Learns About Sex with Experienced Guy which just isn't my jam to begin with. They aren't actually those two roles, but they do work together to figure out what she likes in the bedroom which feels pretty similar. Of course, as always, there were some sex stuff that I didn't enjoy reading, but as far as sex scenes go, the author does a better job than most of the romance authors I read.
Overall, I had a good enough time reading this one. I will always want to dive back into the world of Lovelight. I'm so excited to finish the series this Fall with Business Casual.

I have literally nobody to talk about this to so here we go. It’s kinda niche.
Sometimes characters give me the same vibe and then I imagine they are like the same person but in an another dimension or universe because they just give me the absolute same vibe.
For example this is one character in different dimensions to me:
- Keris Valiant (Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen)
- Charlie Milford (Lovelight Farms by BK Borison)
- Adrian Ivashkov (Vampire Academy/Bloodlines by Richelle Mead)
