It is with pride and excitement that we announce the acquisition of the Marcelo Mirisola Papers – an archival collection that comprises 8 folders of materials produced in the Portuguese language by renowned Contemporary Brazilian author Marcelo Mirisola during the first 15 years of his writing career (1989–2004).

Another misconception blown out of the water: I struggle to understand spoken Italian, and often need French prompts in order to understand the written form (though it’s easier). 

This video shows why: despite similarities in vocabulary and grammatical structures, the differences in pronunciation prevent Italian from being mutually intelligible with French. 

In fact, several people in the comments’ section said that being from Italy, they found French difficult to understand. Many Portuguese people said they could understand much of Spanish and some Italian, but far less French. 

Previously, I thought that having French would make other Romance languages easier to learn. Not necessarily so!

Musiques Lusophones: Brésil  -  Un clic pour écouter

Ce programme nous entrainera pendant plusieurs mois à la découverte des musiques lusophones, musiques des pays de langue portugaise, Brésil, Cap-Vert, Angola et Portugal bien sûr.

Cette première escale nous conduit au Brésil. On parle souvent de la langue de Shakespeare, de Goethe, de Dante ou de Molière, peut-être qu’après cette émission on s’intéressera d’avantage à la langue de Camões. Les musiques brésiliennes sont à l'image de la diversité du pays : métissées et syncopées. Une heure ne suffisant pas à décortiquer toutes ces musiques, Samba, Bossa, Choro, ainsi que tous les folklores traditionnels, nous survolerons ensembles les incontournables. Dans la première partie de ce programme nous irons à la découverte de trois grands artistes, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes et Pixinguinha. La seconde partie nous offrira  un nouveau voyage musical à travers le portait de deux artistes représentatifs de la richesse musicale de ce pays, Maria Gadú et Lucas Santtana.
