He has found himself so busy with those suffering that Lyrian finds only a fragment of time to escape and seek out the inquisitor with a package in hand. With mentions of meetings and councils, however, he turns his booted feet to his love's quarters and, instead, leaves the gift there with a small note."See you this evening, my heart. Forever am I glad that existence has granted you yet another year." And within the package?A strong, silver necklace; one he had enchanted himself for protection.

Kaaras did not often celebrate his birthday. It wasn't that he didn't believe in the celebration, it was just that he was private, and he didn't need others making such a fuss about him getting one year older, especially when all eyes and ears were already on him as the Inquisitor.
When he was a boy, birthday celebrations were not something his parents were familiar with. It was not something that was celebrated under the rules of the Qun. It was a Southern tradition that they had to get used to, so he'd grown up being rather humble over the whole ordeal, let alone expecting any gifts.
After a long day of war councils and meetings, he'd walked his way all the way to the highest tower of Skyhold, where he found the letter in familiar writing, scented with herbs and potions that Lyrian so often smelled of.
It warmed his heart to know that Lyrian even recalled his birthday. But the fact that he would also give him something so special? His large fingers picked up the delicate piece of jewellery, and as a mage, he could feel the enchantment that was cast upon it. Something practical that he could use (and would). Lyrian knew him too well.
He traced his fingers over the necklace before he wrapped it around his neck and let it sit against the dip of his chest. He would be sure to wear it on his next adventure outside of the castle walls, and he would make his way down to the infirmary now, where he could thank Lyrian in person.

What is your favorite dynamic with Kaaras and Lyrian? What about the ship that cataches you offguard and makes you smile?
send anonymous (or not) questions to my muse about their ships, connections, and any other of their relationships.
I think that they are just an exceptionally GENTLE couple. Both Lyrian and Kaaras are gentle souls, and that's really helped them connect. Everything about them is so soft and accepting of each other, always wanting to help the other achieve their goals and make sure that they are safe from hurt.
I think that at the beginning, Kaaras saw himself in Lyrian a lot, which was initially why he didn't want to burden him with a romantic relationship. He saw that they were both too duty filled, and he saw that Lyrian was already coping with so much that he didn't want to add to that burden. He feared that being in a romantic relationship would just cause Lyrian further pain.
I think that's what really surprised me, was that Kaaras finally broke down that wall and said, alright, maybe we're NOT just friends, and maybe I'm trying to keep my distance because I'm so scared of hurting you and causing you more pain and suffering. I think, in a sense, Kaaras would consider himself selfish for taking that dive, but it's not. The both of them deserve happiness, and they've found it in each other.
(also Lyrian has really helped Kaaras with his physical disabilities and that's special).

Cuddles him from behind.

Kaaras tensed at first, when long, slender arms wrapped themselves around him from behind. But it only took a split second to know that familiar touch, that Lyrian was pressed against the thick of his back.
The cuddle was warm and tender, and Kaaras felt himself ease, melting back into it before his hand overlapped Lyrian's at his waist. They could not reach around entirely, no thanks to Kaaras' size, but the effort was there, which made him internally chuckle to himself, a smile spreading over his lips.
It was small moments like this, the slightest shows of affection, that he truly cherished the most.
"Kaaras-" His approach is slow but the smile upon his face obvious, "-- just in case either of us gets pulled away to duties in a few days..." He hands over a bouquet of roses he'd had hidden behind his back and a bottle of wine: "Happy valentines"

There was never telling when the Inquisitor may be pulled away for some sort of dire mission, or a healer may be wrists deep in a difficult surgery. The time that they managed to share together at times felt fleeting, but well worth the waits for when they both happened to have time.
When Lyrian approached, there was something telling about the way his hands were tucked behind his back, but when he offered the bouquet of stunning roses and a bottle of wine, Kaaras felt his heart warm in his chest.
That was so very kind of him, despite the fact that he could not drink the wine. That was not Lyrian's fault, he likely should have told him by now that he could not drink alcohol.
Long ears lowered coyly as a blush touched Kaaras' cheeks. "Oh, you shouldn't have," he replied, taking the flowers and pressing them to his nose. Roses were his favourite flowers, so of course he was enamoured.
"I'm afraid I can't have the wine, but please, keep it. I would hate for it to go to waste, and the gesture is appreciated." He leaned forward and down so he could plant a kiss on Lyrian's lips, his nose brushing against the other's before he leant back up.
"And please, don't feel embarrassed. I should have told you earlier that alcohol and I do... not agree," he chuckled lightly.
