one of my favorite things to do in crossfangs-- and something im doing liberally with separation anxiety au-- is showing what abolish and scott think about their relationship and then juxtaposing that with what others think of their relationship. sometimes everyone's on the same page-- its weird and they need to kill each other about it. but in a rose by any other name and separation anxiety au, they are not on the same page. in fact, i would go so far as to say they are not even in the same book.
see, in a rose by any other name, abolish, scott, and shelby see their relationship as a sweet whirlwind romance, vaguely enemies-to-lovers, fairytale type of relationship. Cleo and Legs-- and the rest of town, for that matter-- see their relationship as obsessive, codependent, and extremely unhealthy. no one here is exactly correct, but no one's really wrong, either.
in separation anxiety au, abolish and scott see their relationship differently. abolish was asleep for 600 years and then when he woke up scott suddenly has separation anxiety and is weirdly possessive over him?? and like, something really strange is that that's absolutely doing it for him, which is wildly confusing. Scott, meanwhile, is completely adamant that he is being Perfectly Normal. no im not in love with my butler who i havent been able to speak to for 600 years why would you say that? no i just got lonely. lonliness isnt a crime, is it?
and that's not even touching on what the rest of town thinks of it. cleo and legs see this as something they need to rescue abolish from. apo is trying really really hard not to care-- she just has too much on her mind right now and she does not have time to give a shit about the bullshit those two have going on. owen sees it as a liability-- abolish could very well be an asset, but if something happened to him, scott would instantly become a Problem. he cant exactly get rid of abolish, but he knows that scott would turncoat if abolish just asked nicely, so he's got himself in a bit of a pickle. shelby and m see these two as the employees of the month at the yaoi factory. i could go on.
basically these two are driving me nuts and i want them both dead xoxo
