My thoughts on the Maccau and Great Maccau so far...

I’ve fought plenty of the little buggers and have beaten their leader a few times, and here’s what I think.

Visually, I really really love this guy and his minions. The big feathery crest and the plumage running down along their backs and tails is pretty nice, and he’s definitely very dinosaur-like. Along with the new herbivore and the fire-bladed predator, there’s quite the addition to MonHun’s dinosaur-themed designs.

Animations are pretty nice as well. The little ones barking at you and then swinging around trying to smack you with their tail like the “grown up monsters” sometimes try and do...  Great Maccau’s clawing and tail-trickery attacks are always fun to watch as well.

Which brings me to the nitpicks...  I really don’t much care for his music theme. I just don’t like it. Out of the various pack leaders and the environments they’ve shown up in, I’ve liked Great Jaggi’s ‘Usurper of the Deserted Island’ the most.

The sounds they make.... I’m very divided on. The minions sound okay, and most of the pack leader’s sounds are alright... But when he ‘howls’ for help like the pack leaders often do?  WTF is that sound he makes!? I still can’t tell if the guy’s gone absolutely insane or if he had one alcoholic beverage too many before his fight, but that call of his is just bizarre. 

Ultimately, I still feel that Great Jaggi’s my favorite pack leader of the bunch, though the Maccau’s pretty nice too.Probably tied for second with Gendrome.
