MAFIAS REMASTERED!!!
Alright yall, the mafias and their au are getting a total overhaul! You guys already got the intro post, now meet the backstory!
So like before, the mafias are set in an au ruled by large companies. Monsters and poor humans alike are all still basically property of the factories they work for. The setting is mostly the same as before, but here’s some details to really help paint the scene
80% of the monster population are factory workers, 10% skilled workers, 8% human affiliated (working closely with one of the company families), 2% criminal ;)
For humans, 70% of the population is also factory workers, 25% skilled workers, 5% elite ruling class- the company families.
Ruling families comprise entirely of witches and/or mages. Kept halfbreed and monster family are seen as more pedigree servants than relatives.
Due to magic poor diets, factory monsters lack the energy/magical power to muster up many attacks, or the education to learn how to use their magic beyond basic functions.
Human/monster relations are very rocky with human workers being encouraged to turn on monster workers for better treatment (and vice versa). Halfbreeds the most discriminated out of any demographic. It was a very racially charged culture.
Of course when people are poor with terrible living conditions and no way to really climb up the ladder, they turn to ✨crime✨.
Out of the nasty street ashes rise the mafias! Gangs that are dedicated to smuggling around supplies, stealing from the rich (and poors often as well), and basically making the companies lives a lot harder. There were way more mafias than the Wingdings family. Some that had enough monsters/humans in them to cross over during the crash
The viper family: run by tempest (mafia undyne) and needles (mafia alphys). The needles was purely comprised of lizfolk and aquatic monsters only. They “controlled” a sea town in their old au, and are the controlling mafia/gang in Steeler city now. The ladies handle the drug cartel of ebott and are slippery mfs. They’re aware of the Wingdings being brought under heel and have no intentions of going down without a fight.
The Barkins family: run by mafiatale dogressa, the barkins mafia is all canine type monsters (and some humans/mages!). They have “control” of Goldenvalley and have a secret arms base hidden in a series of small farms. The family is tight knit and INCREDIBLY loyal. So much so that no one has been able to garner information out of them.
The Rockefeller family: the only fully human mafia to have enough members fall through the crash in order to reform. The rockfellers inhabit the mountains of Ridgeside and are rumored to be the masterminds behind the monster trafficking problems in ebott. With monsters being added to the ranks after the crash, finding members is very difficult as it could be anybody now
The bluebell family: the bunny mafia, and easily the most feared of the lot that’s left, the bluebells are situated down in snowdin and above in new hope. They work with illegal asset exchange and secret bank accounts and have been known to absolutely bankrupt powerful families through their tricks. Conspiracy theorists love to accuse Marcelo goldenfoot as the masterminds behind the bad bunnies, a thing that never fails to piss him off
The Salem family: started by two mages, going by the alias of Petunia and Dove from the factory au, they “control” a sizable chunk of waterfall and handle the curse market. They’re HATED by the local covens for seducing away their young witches but are too crafty to be weeded out. For now.
And of course y’all want to know exactly what happened to the Wingdings mafia right? Well it starts right after the crash. The leader at the time- Aster (not roulette) had been healthily injured right before the crash happened. He held on for about two years, recovering a little, but was too slow to survive a hit from Don, the leader of the dreemur mafia during the first turf war in ebott city.
Roulette quickly took control over the Wingdings, an all skeleton (and one mage) mafia. While roulette was a wonderful second in command, with asters steady leadership to smooth over any fights roulette started, his dictatorship as the main leader soon started to unravel the bonds between the skeletons. Sides began forming, and fights kept breaking out as roulette played favorites, or would be too harsh without any of the care or respect they once had from aster.
The first strike came when Leather, roulettes second, tried challenging his boss for the position. Leather and his little coup failed, but were let free to run off after the fight by bruiser and boss, the two unwilling to allow roulette to make an example of them. When roulette found out, they were punished heavily, thus shaking the little loyalty butch had left to his father.
The second strike came when roulette started plans to make a deal with the rockfellers in exchange for a cut of Ridgeside. Many members were disgusted with the idea of dealing with humans, especially ones that worked with trafficking.
The final strike came when roulette insisted on using slim as a spy on the dreemurs who had been too quiet for a year now. The youngest brother was still a ghost to society and wouldn’t be recognized. He had previously been off limits per Asters rules, and roulettes decision cost him butch, and his section of the mafias support.
With his group, butch challenged roulette, the fight ending in a stalemate splitting the Wingdings. The remaining roulette supports were chased out with the brothers father, but the family was left weakened after loosing so much of their manpower. Unfortunately nobody had been able to locate and speak to leather, so they weren’t aware of the dreemurs plans.
Since the crash, the mafias started becoming a real problem. They were harassing chunks of ebott city, extorting money, driving out outside humans, passing around illegal goods. Enough so that the royals were relieved when a deal was proposed by two special figures. Madame and Don of the dreemur family had come forward, using information they compiled on the cities more notorious gangs to open a way to take out the cities biggest mafias in one large swoop. The information on the Wingdings specifically was given by a vengeful leather.
With the dirt given by Don and Madame, the royals were able to capture and clear away many prominent names including the Ember family(grillby), the Spinner family (muffet), and the Wingdings. Through their deal, Don and Madame were allowed to attempt the royal ritual, and to the shock of every one, succeeded~ The majority of public believes the two new royals to be some more private rare educated folk from the factory au, elevated due to the AUs need for a proper representative. But the mafias all know the truth. Madame and Don won, and in the disbanding of so many families, only the ones willing to bend to the royals will were left alive.
Wingdings mafia side members:

Marcy: a skeleton mage, the only one in the (ex) Wingdings mafia. Marcy was the daughter of a rich socialite lady and Bravo. Marcy despises her mother’s family for throwing her out for obviously not being a legitimate child and is very biased against humans. She’s uncomfortable with butch’s chill around them but still remains loyal to the one monster who let a mage into the fold. She’s the mafias curse expert.
Bravo: a halfbreed skeleton with high cheekbones and bright orange magic. Bravo is a cheeky and impulsive monster with a bit of a gold digging tendency. He was the guy the Wingdings family would use to bribe the companies enforcers. Bravo has a daughter in the family now but they act more like buddies than parent and child.
Scalper: she’s a very pointy edgy looking skeleton monster with a sleek build and sharp emerald green magic. Scalper is a hissy shrewd character who loves empty spaces. She was the Wingdings best thief and would join the boys on raids in order to crack vases and find stashes.
Witch: she’s a short stout skeleton monster with cherry pink magic. She claims to have a witch mother but isn’t a halfbreed, and she tends to lie about a lot of other things so nobody believes her. Even when she has a witches Gilmore on her at all times. Witch is the Wingdings best interrogator, able to tell whenever someone is trying to trick or redirect her with ease. She’s vicious and loves calling others out.
Skunk: a large beefy skeleton monster missing an eye socket and three teeth on his right side. His remaining eyelight is all blown up large from the damage and is bright yellow despite his magic actually being purple. Skunk is the chemical guy and made all the Wingdings pipe bombs and other things. He doesn’t talk much. He just likes to mess with his shiny liquids
Queen: a pretty petite skeleton with bubble gum pink magic, freckles, and a very deep and masculine voice lmao. Queen is sort of like the den mother of the Wingdings and did a lot to help smooth feathers when things got hot. Queen also plays the good cop when collecting tribute from the people the mafia “protected” before the royals took them over.
Hyde: a very tall and soft spoken skeleton with soft teddy bear brown magic. Hyde has a special ability allowing him to walk through crowds unnoticed with ease despite his size. He’s a skilled pickpocket and has even crashed a few company parties to leave threatening notes or deadlier party favors~ he’s a bit of a prankster like that
Crutch: the second best fighter of the Wingdings behind butch. Crutch is a square jawed skeleton with thick ribs and large lower canines. He has silver magic. Crutch is loud, a bit pushy, and dumb as a brick. But he’s loyal and well meaning. He’s the kindest of the lot.
And a little more on the backstories of each sibling set!
The reason why roulette had so many halfbreed kids around is that he has an obsession with prestige, and saw targeting rich humans as a way of getting one over them. He would go after them as a way of sticking it to the companies that he hated so much.
Dice: the only “pure” monster child of roulette, dice was born to Roman, another member of the Wingdings mafia. Roulette and Roman’s relationship was already rocky due to roulettes many affairs, so when she found out she was pregnant, Roman chose to run, wanting a chance for something better for her son. She eventually came across courier, a kept monster (company family servant) and quickly fell for him. Dice was about 9 when they got together. Roman has pressed dice into secrecy about his origins when he started asking questions, and he would do everything in his power before the crash to make sure no one ever associated him with the Wingdings mafia. He is feeling pretty secure about his life now though, knowing the royals have all his “family” leashed up.
Gamble: the son of courier and Roman. Gamble grew up very privileged compared to most monsters in their au. He doesn’t know anything about who dice’s father is.
Slugger: the daughter of roulette and a wealthy socialite lady. She hid her pregnancy and dropped off Samantha in a dumpster behind her families factory when the half breed child was born. Samantha was raised by other factory workers, and eventually raised steel when he was found in the same spot years later. Roulette never learned of her existence and she never cared to find out who she was from.
Steel: roulette clearly wasn’t done with sluggers mother as she had a second child by him. Steel met the same fate and was found and raised by Samantha. He is very curious about family history after the crash and has been reaching out through ebotts historical records to try and find any relatives he and his sister might have. He hasn’t had any luck yet.
Butch: the only child roulette carried himself, butch was fathered by Marcus Rockfeller. Having the child didn’t get roulette the deal he was hoping for the Wingdings family, so butch was ignored for most of his early childhood until he became old enough to train. His main parental figure in his early years was crutch.
Hostess: born to a sickly human woman at a brothel. The half breed child was quickly identified as belonging to the Wingdings and returned. Her mother didn’t survive the birth
Snipe: born to Maria Romero, the daughter of a surgeon. Maria was kicked out by her family when she had a half breed child, but she stuck it out and raised snipe while also working a backbreaking job at a cotton factory. She raised her son with love, and snipe adored her until she died of lung cancer when he was 15.
Casket: born to a VERY wealthy owner of a rather… sketchy ham factory. Charlie was loved, but his mother had no monster contacts to help raise the half breed child, and she refused to lower herself into using one of her factory workers as a nanny. So she found roulette and gave Charlie to him. Her son would not be an uneducated drone like the others. He’s the only (mafia raised) sibling to have regular contact with his parent.
Bouncer: born to the sister of caskets mother. Caskets mother actually set her sister up with roulette to prove to her that it was her (hated by caskets mother) husband that was preventing her from having kids. Well it worked, and bouncer was quickly handed over to save him from the family drama. So weirdly enough he and casket are both siblings and cousins. They don’t talk about it much
Boss: born to the wife of a printing press owner, boss was taken as collateral as a toddler when the father refused to pay the “protection fee” to the Wingdings family. It was rather annoying to roulette getting an extra child considering he was already busy with one the same age at the time.
Bruiser: the second son of Maria. Roulette had rediscovered his old affair when snipe was a bit older, and came to Maria under a different disguise. He enjoyed the attention she gave him until she got sick. Bruiser was a strong child though, so when he heard of her passing, he decided to take him and his older brother in. Out of all the kids, bruiser was probably roulettes favorite. He saw a lot of himself in his little rebel. Bruiser still misses roulette
Ace: born to a very rich haughty business woman. She personally tracked roulette down herself to give him a piece of her mind for saddling her as a single mother. No one ever found her body. All Asher has known is the mafia.
Heist: born to the wife of a loan shark, the woman was kicked out when it was obvious that the child wasn’t his. She tried to get sanctuary with the Wingdings but was promptly kicked out. Roulette kept Harriet though.
Slim: born to a monster sympathizer lady from a prominent company family. Slim was very much loved for the first few months of his life by his mother, but pressure from the family forced her to pick between the fortune she grew up with or her child. She decided to find roulette and leave slim with him, promising her kid that she would find him again someday.
