TMA ep 174
“You can be infuriating sometimes, you know that?”
“Yes 🙂” AAAAAAA
Simon Fairchild is so amusing, this is so fun, I love the sky grandpa
“We’ve not been having an easy journey”
“Jon”
“What? We haven’t!” OH HOW THE TURN TABLES LMAOOOO
What? I know Jon doesn’t like (wants to dislike) using his powers, but is he struggling? Is it impossible for even the eye to comprehend the sheer vastness of everything? Or is this just him stalling cuz he doesn’t want to kill Simon?
Oh my god- Simon’s “byeeee~~” LMAO I LOVE THIS MAN
HELEN IS HERE TOO?? Ofc she is
“I thought the literal end of the world would be enough to stop you whining” LMAOOO
Awww they apologized to each other- they’ve kinda needed to, you know. Chill out for a second. Tensions have been high as FUCK for the past several episodes.
“Lead on”
“Uh”
“Oh right” hAHA he forgot for a sec- I do appreciate him trying to give a kind gesture though.

“Do you think you’re the first species to fear annihilation?” he asks. “Extinction – such a concept is not as rare as you might think. Extinction is something as insignificant as pest control, or as isolated as a single murder. It is the felling of a forest, the drying of a river, the violent supernova and the hunt of a lone mantis. Things cease to exist with every breath that you take. The only reason it matters now is because it’s you.”

After their confrontation with Simon Fairchild, Jon and Martin spot two figures on the horizon of the Vast's domain. As they approach, Jon realises that one of them is a familiar face. More than just a scarce friendly face, these figures offer answers that Jon and Martin had long thought they would never get, and comfort they didn't know they could have.

Jon and Martin meet Hua Cheng and Xie Lian in the Eyepocalypse. They talk.
HEY SO WHO ELSE IS DOING COMPLETELY FINE AND OKAY ANF GREAT RIGHT NOW
guys i think The Vast as a concept is my favorite. or at least in my top 5. i love it so freaking MUCH AAAAHHHHHHHHH I . LOVE THE VAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's SO COOL AND SCARY i mean have you ever laid on your back in a field at 4 pm in perfect weather and just. stared. for an hour into the empty blue. or ducked your head underwater after going "just a bit" farther than you can touch. or traveled a winding freeway in the valley of two giants of the earth and recalled a time you looked across the land from one of their peaks. or taken a microbiology course and, even once, attempted to liken yourself to an atom. cuz i have and it's one of the greatest thrills i have experienced. michael crew and simon fairchild's statements are among my favorites (i have so many aaaa reeeeeee)
in mag 174 there is a comparison of different vastnesses (those on the ground and those making up the Great Beast) and they are both INCREDIBLE the ambience is amazing
Okay the second part of this episode was fucking hilarious. Simon is still a bastard, but his little “Byeeeeee” as he left had me dying. And Helen throwing a tantrum because Jon didn’t want to kill someone was funny as hell. I just love this running joke of Jon being like “I don’t want to kill every avatar I come across” and Helen and Martin being like “Why noooooooooot?” At least Martin is realizing that it wasn’t the greatest idea, even if Jon started it. Maybe this will make things a little easier on them going forward? Hard to tell at this point.
I’ve listened to 173 and 174, the Dark and the Vast episodes. Tensions are understandably high, but given their circumstances I’m pleasantly surprised with how well Martin and Jon seem to be communicating. I’m also pleasantly but cautiously surprised with how well Jon seems to be hanging onto himself, despite, as Helen pointed out, ultimate power and no consequences. Especially since he’s admitted that he likes the suffering he feeds off of here, and especially with the person who is supposed to be grounding him egging him on to murder.
I am, I suppose, waiting for the second impossibly vast shoe made of grotesquely tangled together people, to drop.
