i like to think that in prime time dennis sat mac and charlie on opposite sides of the table so that they wouldn't distract eachother and ruin the dinner like how in school teachers would separate kids from their friends when they talked too much and disrupted the lesson

mmmmm the way dennis is bewildered that mac perfectly reconstructed their apartment and didn't use it as an opportunity to develop or try something different, and is frustrated that his apartment is still the same as it was back when they moved in. "you don't like it?" "no." vs charlie - in the middle of attempting to put himself in the same 'baby trap' that dennis is in - freaking out the moment he realises that being with the waitress means she will move in with him, ask him to repaint, and eventually have to leave his apartment. "frank's gonna need to find us a nicer place to live." "oh, but i love this place."

dennis realising he's yearning for change is what double life is about but in the background there charlie is realising he wants things to stay the same, and has been yearning all along for something he doesn't want

Looking past the intended joke that Mac sculpted a penis because he’s gay, and Dennis sculpted a head in a freezer because he’s a “serial killer”, I actually like what these sculptures show about Mac and Dennis’ individual views on love.

Mac attempted to sculpt cupid’s arrow. He sees love as something that is thrust upon a person, as if by magic or some outside force, and which the lover themself has little control over.

Dennis sculpts a head in a freezer to represent “the preservation of love for ever and ever”. He sees love as something fleeting and fragile, that would need to be captured and artificially preserved at the height of its beauty in order to prevent its natural decay.
