7. Christmas Day (The One)
“Christmas Day. I’d spent the last few weeks imagining it several different ways. I thought maybe I’d be here, eliminated and home. We’d all be around our tree, dejected that I wasn’t a princess but blissfully happy to be together. I’d also considered opening gifts under the massive tree at the palace, eating myself sick, and laughing with the other girls and Maxon, for one day every corner of the competition suspended to celebrate.
Never could I have imagined I’d be bracing myself for the task of putting my father in the ground”.

The Singers
Shalom Singer - Liam Neeson Magda Singer - Julianne Moore Kenna Singer - Emma Stone Kota Singer - Cameron Monaghan America Singer - Audrey Hollister May Singer - Liv Freundlich Gerad Singer - Jakob Davis James Orders - Andrew Garfield
Since I love to overexplain things, here is an inside look into my mind when I picked this cast:
Liam has always been Shalom in my head, I have no idea why. Maybe I was watching Love Actually before I read The Selection? He was an amazing father to Thomas Brodie’s character in Love Actually so I visualise him in that as Shalom. Julianne is without a doubt Magda Singer, she has that stern look to her yet she could be very motherly. Not to mention she has similar facial features to Audrey. Emma was actually an alternate for me to use as America when Rosie ( @not-your-dear ) pointed out that she was too old but not so old so naturally I picked her to be America’s older sister. Cameron was the only person I could picture as Kota, I almost picked a Weasley brother but none of them had that sinister look to them and as you know Cameron plays the Joker on Gotham so that drive that the Joker has can be applied to Kota. Not to mention Cameron is an intense actor and perfect for Kota who is an intense character. (I have so many things to say about Kota Singer hence I am putting it into a fic so look out for that). Audrey is the only fancast everyone can agree on for America. Nuff said. Liv is Julianne’s irl daughter so that’s a fun fact for you so durh she’s going to be May and look at her. She is a ray of sunshine aka how May is in the books. Jakob is kind of obvious why I picked him. He’s young, ginger and look at that sad face. Imagine him making it when he is being told that he can’t play football or do science for a living. Andrew wasn’t even supposed to be in this to be honest, neither is James but I just needed to pretend that Emma and Andrew never broke up and vicariously use Kenna and James to live out my happily ever after for Emma and Andrew. BECAUSE THEY DESERVED TO BE HAPPY GODDAMMIT. But honestly Andrew makes a great James and he has amazing chemistry with Emma aka Kenna.
"I hope you find someone you can't live without. I really do. And I hope you never have to know what it's like to have to try and live without them."
- America to Maxon, The Selection
Magda Singer's Features
America notes that, for a Five, her mother is a little on the heavy side, but she assumes that it comes from having five children. Magda's hair is red but full of brilliant white streaks. Although she is still young, Magda's face is lined with worry and she walks around "hunched over as if an invisible weight rested on her shoulders".
