I mostly talk about persecution under Islamic and Christian rule for the same reason as Dr. Sarah Taieb-Carlen in her book The Sephardi Journey: "in order to pay the respect due to any Jewish community which has lived through oppression and persecution without abjuring its faith."

It's fine to talk about Golden Ages and Jews with high positions and leniencies. But that doesn't mean that Jews haven't faced religious persecution in almost any place we've settled. Ignoring history doesn't help anyone, it only invalidates communities who have a long history of survival.
