Race descriptions
Here's a description of the races that inhabit Orastim. Got your Map of Orastim handy? You'll need it! The race of the Noffo people. They are famous for their banks (monmu) as they invented the bank. Their magical practices tend to focus on divine (godly) magic. Knowledge is the most valuable thing to them. They practice some forms of spiritual discipline, but some would debate if it is an actual religion. The government has a leader, Fummof Jujmum (High Sorceress), currently High Sorceress Lerae. The people are of medium size (2-3 m), yet include a large, backward sloping frill on their skulls, joined to their noses. They have hoof-like hands, which are capable of supporting them in quadruped locomotion, though they are mostly bipedal. Their bodies are slender and have a curved backbone, which sticks out from the main body. Their body structure is still similar to that of a quadruped, with broad shoulders, a large torso and pelvis. They also contain a rigid tail which supports them; similar to a sauropods, though not very long. Their mountainous landscape has also made them very good at mining, smelting and forging. They speak Nodjum, which is mostly spoken as their hoof hands don’t let them write very well. They can use either Letae or Bofaz script. Their icy climate in Northern Endres means that they have thick hair which keeps them warm during the colder winter months. They are a part of the Federation. The capital of Noffo is Numnu. The Badiesai race. They have spines instead of hair. They have sucker-like mouths, though they are similar in appearance to the Taneali. They are able to render themselves invisible. They avoid all kinds of magic except earth (Gunir) magic. They have a symbiotic-like relationship with the environment. Their earth magic channels its power through the earth (Gunir). They have an affinity for trees. They are usually a pale green colour. Their heads are perfectly round. Their hands are relatively flat and unlike human hands. They are of large size (4-5 m). Their language is quite similar to Taedra. Most of the people actually speak another language such as Nodjum or Taedra. They are neutral towards both the Federation and the Brotherhood. They live in the centre of Southern Orastim, in a jungle paradise with a central lake. They speak a form of Taedra and use the Letae script. The Bittic race. They have strange, flapping ears. They have many horns on their heads. They can fly, though only for short distances. They are exceptionally good at water magic. They worship a single abstract deity (Dibpi) who works with a host of created sub-deities that are also worshiped. They believe the deities are generally distant and uninvolved in their lives. They live in Pimci in Northern Orastim. They are covered all over in thick, white hair. They are small (less than 1m). They have stocky legs with large feet. Their hands are like big, white gloves and their arms are similar. Their eyes are perfectly white, with a black centre. They are hard to spot in Pimci due to their white colour. Their torso is small, yet rugged and their backbone is actually through the torso, in the centre of their bodies. This makes them walk more upright, yet with straight legs. They invented the Zinhitr, like an early gun (also called other things in other languages). They speak Pihnio. They can use either Letae or Bofaz script, but Letae is preferred. They are a part of the Federation. Their capital is Rizn. The Vorgabar: They have a long torso connected to a rounded back. They have two legs from their torso and four legs from their back. The back extends from the lower half of their torso, similar to that of a spider thing. They have alternating stripes of brown and light green. Their feet are crab like. Their head is large with a sloping skull. Their eyes are also large and have powers that can kill. They acquired this eye power, though it is unclear when. The Vorg’abar are merciless killers, yet have not attacked for a while. They are 2-3 m in height and 3-4 m in length. They do not have hair on their head, only skin, but everywhere else on their body is covered with a thin layer of skin, coloured with the striped pattern. They have a monarchy. They are said to have acquired great power during the period of the Federation’s expansion, halting the Federation in this time. They are good at alchemy. They cannot write, but can speak. They speak Kotsigof. They use the Arav script. They are a part of the Serpentine Brotherhood, or the Brotherhood for short. Their capital is Quuk, an underground city located near lava. Zozog Race: The Zozogs are a slave race of the Vorgabar. It is believed that they are who the Vorgabars’ were before being consumed by evil spirits. They have four legs, with two capable of being hands. They are covered all over in brown fur (hair), including on their face. Their skin underneath is pink. They are smaller than the Vorgabar, being only 1-2 m in height. They have blue eyes and a small nose, with pointy ears. Their skulls are curved back, but very strong. They are noted for their intelligence. They use Kotsigof as their language, though may have used another language before. They also use the Arav script. It is their skills and manpower that power the Vorgabar. It is they who started the popularity of alchemy and who are the best at alchemy. The only location where they are not slaves to the Vorgabar is Foaq. The capital of Foaq is Kuvbixor. They are relatively neutral because they don’t side with the Federation or the Brotherhood, though have a dislike for the Vorgabar, and vice versa. Zakri Race: They live in the south of Orastim, where there is a constant dark sky. The trees here have turned blue. Their landscape is mostly plains, forests and rivers. In the centre of their lands is the Zatja, where the magical towers failed and let the evils of the world push into Zakri from the Senatu Telie (Middle Band). This is how their world came to be in its present state. Many evil creatures lurk the landscape. They have many shrines throughout their lands which provide healing and act as the religious centres for the people. They mostly use fire magic against their foes, and have become very experienced with it. They are red people who are less than one metre in height. They have narrow heads that are shaped like a canoe and have yellow noses capable of a range of sounds. They have a bill instead of a mouth. Their eyes are blue like the world around them. Their ears are large for a creature of their size. They have four legs, two on their front and two on their back as well as two arms. Their legs are tentacle-like and they seem to swish, rather than walk. Their arms are also tentacle-like, but contain sucker hands. They are very thin and appear to have no backbone or other bones. They can speak in their native language, Daklal. They use the Letae script. They are a part of the Brotherhood. Their capital is Xorsoe. The Zawii Race: They live in a desert land, in the south of Orastim. The land is tormented by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The desert heat is at a killing temperature. Foul beasts stalk the landscape, killing anything in their way. Many demons also exist in their lands. The only interesting features in their territory are two lakes in the centre. The Zawii are famed for their libraries. They exist now only as skeletons, but were once full life forms. Their skeleton consists of a large, central, thick bone that runs down and into a curve, resembling a tail. Out of this central bone are two smaller bones, resembling arm bones that curve upwards into flattened, 3-fingered hands. The top of this central bone is a slender, curving skull. Out from the central bone is a rib cage, which curves down the body, ending just before the curve in the central bone. The rib cage extends completely across the central bone. Their tail-like bone also allows them to swim easily, a possible earlier function of the race when they were living. They are 3-4 metres high, or when swimming, long. They worship a single goddess, Naqadz, who is a nymph-like creature. They use Allocamels as transport in the desert. They live in the Laria kingdom, with their capital Radnairu. Their language is Hunul. They use the Bofaz script. They are a part of the Brotherhood. The Islyn Race: They are masters of shape-shifting, though their natural look is a blue centaur figure, with purple eyes. They are 2 metres in height and 3 metres in length. They are naturally good at archery. They are from another world but have established a settlement here, on small islands off of Orastim. The islands are a swampy area, filled with devilish creatures. They believe in spiritual beings, who guide them on their path. Their capital is New Darknor. Relatively little is known about their language as it is fromanother world and thus is not understood very well in Orastim. They can use either Letae or Bofaz scripts. They are a part of the Brotherhood, though can be neutral at times. The Malalir are short, pale light purple and violet colours, stand with knees bent forward, have rounder head, round eyes, round ears and round noses. The Malalir speak Rudenz and use the Bofaz script. I have deliberately left out the Taneali because we will discuss them in more detail in a post to come. Until next time!
