Purple fluorite with marcasite cockscomb clusters — Inner Mongolia, China. This is an unusual pairing you don't see often: the silvery, crested sprays on top are marcasite, not pyrite. Both are iron disulfide (FeS2) with identical chemistry, but they crystallize in different systems — pyrite is cubic (isometric), marcasite is orthorhombic, and marcasite preferentially forms at lower temperatures in more acidic, sulfate-rich fluids. That's why you find it with fluorite here: the late-stage hydrothermal fluids in this deposit were cooler and slightly more acidic when the iron sulfide precipitated, giving it that classic radiating cockscomb habit instead of clean pyrite cubes. Collector's note: marcasite is chemically less stable than pyrite and can slowly oxidize into sulfuric acid and iron sulfates — store it dry and away from humidity.
🌻✨FIVE new pieces up on my shop! ✨🌻
I've updated the shop with five new pieces: three coyote tooth earrings with amethyst, sodalite, and moonstone ($40USD each) , a belomorite pendant ($35USD) and a marcasite PENDANT ($35USD)! These are all super unique and I'm super pleased with them all.
Iiiiiiiii.... Am trying to save up money to make the upcoming vet appointment to get Junebug his flea and tick meds a little easier on our wallets! It's been a brutal tick season on our end, so while we intended to get him on them, we're hoping to get him on them a littttttle faster than anticipated. So I'd super appreciate you taking a look at these (and the other pieces I've got in the shop!) And keep an eye out; I plan on adding more pieces throughout the week!
Happy journeys into June, my friends!
