Genuinely what is people's issue with Peggy Carter, she's cool, she's a baddie, she's smart, she's everything I have ever wanted.
Is it just because Steve came back to her. Because I'll admit that was pointless but at the same time, if I had a chance I would also go back in time to snog Peggy Carter. Why are we sending death threats to the actress.
Summary: A late night apology turns into so much more

Peggy hovers outside of your apartment door. She fidgets with her hands, then lifts her fist to knock, hesitates, then fidgets with her hands again. This charade goes on for a good twenty seconds.
Yesterday makes the third time that Peggy brushed you off and cancelled plans without a backward glance, and she’d really hated that she’d done that.
She’d just been stressed out from work and the exhaustion of dealing with misogyny for hours just made her want to be alone, put her feet up. She hadn’t had the patience for your sweetness then, and she’d regretted it the second she turned you away.
This is what led to Peggy lying awake in her bed that night, staring at her ceiling and thinking of you. Thinking somehow she’d blinked and your friendship had become the most important thing in her life. She realized that the time she’d been spending with you was the most okay she’d felt in months, maybe years. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing someone so important to her again. So instead of forcing herself to go to sleep, (something she wasn’t getting much of these days anyway) she’d gotten up, pulled on a night robe, and slipped out of her apartment.
And brought herself right to your door.
Peggy finally kicks herself and knocks, shifting her weight as she steps back. A moment later, the door opens and you peer out, dressed in your own night robe.
“Peggy? It’s…almost one in the morning,” your tone is half groggy, half bewildered.
Peggy fusses with the belt of her robe, suddenly feeling stupid. The hallway light casting a spotlight on her right now certainly isn’t helping on that front.
Peggy takes a deep breath to steel herself before meeting your eyes, really looking at her friend proper for the first time in probably days. She notices the colorful flecks in your eyes. She also notices the dark half moons beneath them as if your sleep has been shoddy too.
“Sooo was there something you needed?” You prompt Peggy gently when she doesn’t say anything else.
Peggy falters, feeling like the words are stuck in her throat. She didn’t plan this out, didn’t think about what she’d actually say when you answered the door. So since the words were currently evading her, she decides instead to step forward and fold you into a hug.
It’s impulsive and probably too much. Peggy wasn’t really much of a hugger with anyone. But she needed this, and from the way your arms wrap tightly around her, she suspects you needed it too.
Peggy buries her face against your shoulder, breathing in the familiar floral fragrance she’s begun to associate with you. The hug lasts longer than either of you expects, your arms tightening around Peggy when she starts to pull back, like she’s the only thing keeping you standing.
Peggy finally pulls back enough to see you, and that’s when she notices the dampness on your cheeks. Without thinking, she reaches out to cup your cheeks, swiping away the errant tears with her thumbs.
“Are you alright?” Peggy coos, searching your face.
You sniffle and nod. Peggy’s thumbs make another soft pass over the apples of your cheeks and you smile up at her, but then your gaze darts anxiously over her shoulder. “You should come inside,” you say before pulling back to take Peggy’s hand, pulling her into your apartment and shutting the door.
The first thing Peggy notices it the warmth of your place, the cozy and ambient lighting of the lamps on surfaces. There’s also a faint scent of vanilla in the air, more than likely leftover from the candles Peggy knows you like to burn. Most of which had been gifts from Peggy herself.
“Can I get you anything? Tea? Coffee?” You ask, jolting Peggy back to the present moment.
“No, that’s quite alright, I just wanted to talk to you. Again, I’m sorry for the late hour, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to sleep until we’ve discussed this,” Peggy says
You nod, lowering yourself onto your sofa. “Okay, well, I’m all ears,”
Peggy takes purchase beside you on your sofa, and you take the liberty of grabbing the blanket off the back of it to drape over both of your legs. A held silence takes center stage, and Peggy rubs her clammy hands together, cursing herself for rejecting that tea offer now that she desperately needed something to do with her hands.
“So I wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday,” Peggy finally speaks. “I shut you out and that’s something I never wanted to do in regard to you,” she reaches out to take both of your hands in hers, searching your eyes as she continues. “I don’t say it nearly enough, but you are one of the most important people in my life. If not, the most important. After Steve, I…I just never thought…”
Peggy trails off, but you don’t need her to finish to understand the meaning. She never thought anyone would matter this much to her again.
You seem to sense when Peggy’s words become too much for her, because you lean forward, pressing your forehead to hers. You weren’t sure what birthed this habit, but the two of you have done this a few times when neither one of you knew what to say. And sometimes, in moments like this, there wasn’t really anything to say. Just a presence to be felt.
And Peggy leans into your touch, letting her eyes fall closed. Her hand moves to rest atop your knee, and you cover it with your own hand.
“You don’t have to apologize,” your thumb traces circles on the back of Peggy’s hand. “I get it…you’ve been carrying so much alone for so long,”
“Yes, but it would be nice if I could get it through my thick skull that I don’t have to be alone,” Peggy says, pulling back to meet your eyes. “Not when I have you,”
You smile. “You’re right. You don’t have to be alone. I’m not going anywhere,”
Peggy exhales in content before letting her gaze drop to your joined hands. Her hand is still squeezing your knee, and your hand still covers hers, your thumb still making those gentle passes over her knuckles.
Something foreign twists in Peggy’s stomach. She clears her throat, naïvely thinking this will get rid of the feeling. It doesn’t. And then, she makes the grave mistake of looking up, meeting your eyes, which are so much prettier when you’re this close. Not to mention your fragrance so much more enveloping.
“Do…do you ever…” Peggy’s voice is barely above a whisper now as her sentence trails off.
You search back patiently. “Do I ever…what?”
Peggy opens her mouth to answer. But then her eyes seem to betray her, darting down to your mouth for a flicker of a second, and when she catches herself, Peggy launches to her feet, startling you and most likely herself as well. Her sudden movement caused the blanket to slide to the floor. “Sorry, it’s…it’s very late. I should…”
For a second, you just stare at Peggy bewildered. Your heart hasn’t fully recovered, pounding now, but you don’t think that’s entirely due to the start Peggy just gave you. Your pulse seems to kick into overdrive as realization dawns.
She’s nervous. Peggy Carter is nervous. Because of you?
Your cheeks flush pink in the dim light, but unlike Peggy, your panic is more internal. You try not to let it show on your face. Instead you stand slowly, smoothing down your robe before taking one careful step toward Peggy where she’s now hovering near the door.
Peggy’s breath catches as you approach. “I really should—“
Before she can finish or think about fleeing, you close the remaining distance between you, lifting your hands to cup Peggy’s face. You brush your thumbs over her cheeks, the same way she’d done to you earlier, and the way her eyes absolutely soften as she regards you, gives you all the confidence you need to lean up and kiss her.
The kiss is soft at first, exploratory. You don’t expect Peggy to melt into you as quickly as it does, sipping back on your lips for two seconds, three, before she pulls back gently. “I don’t know if we should be doing this, it’s—“ but you chase after her lips, kissing her again before she can overthink this or comment on how it’s “wrong”.
The second kiss is decidedly more thorough. Her mouth opens for you and she accepts your tongue, while your hands slide into Peggy’s hair, and her hands drop to your waist, pulling your body flush against her own. She tastes like mint, something so normal, that it almost hurts how right it feels.
And god, nothing ever has or probably ever will feel more right to you than kissing Peggy Carter does.
Peggy is the first to break the kiss, heart pounding. She should leave. She knew she should leave. She knew the kind of repercussions she’d face if a single person knew what the two of you had just been doing. You couldn’t exactly hold hands in the daylight. But really, all she wanted wanted in that moment was to taste your lips again. So that’s exactly what she did.
All those what ifs and shouldn’ts shatter the moment your mouths meet a third, intoxicating time. You gasp against Peggy’s lips before melting into it, fingers tightening in Peggy’s hair as she kisses back with equal hunger. There’s no hesitation now; just heat and want and months of latent tension crackling between the two of you like a live wire.
The world outside doesn’t matter, neither do the neighbors sleeping down the hall or the shifts waiting for you in the morning. None of it exists right here in your dimly lit apartment with Peggy’s lips on yours after so long pretending that neither of you were supposed to feel this way.
How could this be wrong? That’s all Peggy was thinking as she walked you slowly back toward your bedroom, her hands working at the belt of your robe. How could something that makes me feel so alive ever be wrong?
The belt loosens and your robe slides down your shoulders under Peggy’s trembling fingers, revealing a simple white bra beneath, but to Peggy, it might as well have been lingerie. To her, you were a vision.
You shiver when the cool air hits your bare skin, but then Peggy kisses your newly exposed collarbone and you gasp, arching into it. Peggy’s mouth travels all over your neck whilst her hands get busy sliding your bra straps down your shoulders. This was dangerous in all kinds of ways—not just socially, but emotionally too. With the two of you being best friends before this, what would happen if things went sideways?
But Peggy can’t bring herself to care about any of that right now. Not now that she knows how your skin tastes and how to get you to make such soft, beautiful sounds. All she knows is that kissing you, touching your skin feels like coming home after being lost for years.
Your hands are everywhere, gentle yet urgent as they explore Peggy’s back, learning the shape of her through the thin fabric of her robe. Meanwhile, Peggy kisses down your jaw to your throat, pressing soft bites that make both of you shiver.
There’s no rush, no frantic tearing at clothes, just slow discovery. Like you had all night to memorize each other properly.
“Lie down, love,” Peggy whispers against your lips.
You obey without hesitation, sinking back onto the bed and pulling Peggy with you. Peggy’s knees frame either side of your hips. You run both hands up Peggy’s arms before settling them at the base of her neck, thumb brushing that sensitive spot just below Peggy’s ear as she drags her mouth back to yours.
“Shall I touch you?”
Your answer comes fast, whispered against Peggy’s lips. “God, yes,”
While Peggy’s hands explore, your own hands move down to the hem of Peggy’s robe.
“Oh, you don’t have to….” Peggy starts
“I want to see you too,” You murmur, slipping the robe easily off Peggy’s shoulders. Her bra, simple black but still sexy, is now on full display under the dim light.
Your eyes flicker over her, drinking her in. Then, you reach out slowly to trace a fingertip along Peggy’s shoulder to her collarbone, then down the center of her chest toward her cleavage, making her inhale sharply as heat pools low in her stomach.
You lean up and press a kiss right over Peggy’s heartbeat before sliding both hands around to unclasp the black strap. The bra loosens with a soft click.
Peggy doesn’t move, just lets you peel the straps away carefully. She feels strangely vulnerable like this. More exposed than she has been in front of anyone besides doctors.
But your expression is nothing short of tender as you take your time, pushing the fabric down Peggy’s arms before tossing it aside entirely. Then those warm hands are on bare skin again, gliding over Peggy’s shoulders and upper back with feather-light touches that send shivers everywhere. Your kisses become greedy, starting in the center of Peggy’s throat.
“Shall I undress you as well?” Peggy asks.
“Don’t you mean finish undressing me?” You smile coyly.
An adorable scarlet flush bleeds down Peggy’s neck. “Quite right,”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Your bra is next to go, Peggy reverently stripping it away, but decidedly not taking that same care as she chucks it on your bedroom floor to be forgotten. Next, Peggy is sliding off your underwear and letting you do the same. And when you’re both bare, sitting knee-to-knee on your bed, Peggy just ogles you.
Despite everything, you shrink a little under Peggy’s state. You feel the sudden urge to cover your chest, but as if she already knows the direction your mind is taking, Peggy reaches out and takes both of your hands before you can even think about it.
“You’re beautiful,” she muses. “You’re so beautiful.” Then she sighs. “I don’t mean to hesitate, I’ve just never been with a woman before,”
“Neither have I,” you admit. “But don’t overthink it. Just touch me the way you’d touch yourself. And I’ll do the same,”
Peggy swallows hard and nods before leaning in to kiss you again. Her palms slide down your arms, then over your ribs, her touch gentle like she’s mapping uncharted territory. Which technically, she is.
You shiver under each touch, every brush of Peggy’s fingertips brand new and electric. Then Peggy tentatively cups one of your breasts and waits for a reaction.
Your answering gasp seems to bolster her and she cups your other one as well, palming both of your breasts now between her hands. She climbs on top of you in the process, body aligning with yours and when her bare chest presses against yours, you both groan.
You can feel Peggy’s heartbeat racing against yours and it makes something flutter in your stomach. No words now, just mouths finding each other, skin on skin, and delicious wandering hands.
Peggy works on your breasts for a few more seconds before letting her hand drift downward, fingertips tracing the curve of your hip before sliding lower between your legs.
Following your advice, Peggy mirrors the way she’d like to be touched: one finger gently prodding at your opening, gathering your wetness before sliding inside. You inhale sharply when she adds a second finger and curls, making you buck up against her hand.
Peggy’s fingers start to move with more purpose, guided by your reactions. She slides them up and down and up again, curling and prodding until you let out a gasping moan that she swallows with a kiss.
You can’t leave Peggy hanging, so your hand slides between her legs too, cupping her first, then letting your thumb brush her button. You gather slick on your two fingers before sliding them inside her, mirroring the way she’s touching you.
Your breaths are ragged, uneven, as you touch each other. Every soft sound you make gets kissed away by Peggy, and every little noise Peggy lets out gets swallowed by you right back.
Gaining even more bravado, Peggy’s hips grind down into you and she muffles her moans against your chest before sucking a nipple into her mouth to pacify herself. You muffle your own moans and gasps against Peggy’s shoulder, teeth sinking into the skin.
Your hips jerk against Peggy’s hand when you tip over the edge first, a broken moan muffled into her skin. Your whole body tenses for one breathless second before melting into the mattress, overwhelmed and boneless.
Peggy follows right after, your fingers stilling inside her just enough to let her clench around them as pleasure crashes through her like a wave. She bites down gently on your shoulder to stifle herself, trembling from the sensation. God, when was the last time she’d had an orgasm that wasn’t self-inflicted? She could hardly remember, hardly remembered them ever feeling this good.
You don’t pull apart immediately. Just stay there, foreheads touching, chests rising and falling rapidly, just coming down together in the aftermath of what you’d just done. You’d be content to just stay like this forever, but then Peggy is moving, sitting up.
“I should go. I fear I can’t wake up here,” she sighs.
You nod slowly, even though every part of you wants to say stay. But Peggy is right. She couldn’t wake up here. It would be hard to explain away and questions would certainly be asked.
Covering your chest with the duvet as you sit up, you watch from the bed as Peggy gets dressed, pulling in that robe again like armor going back into place.
“So,” Peggy says as she walks toward your bedroom door. “I’ll come by again tomorrow for tea?” There’s nothing but practicality in her voice now, and you wish more than anything to hear her speak in that low, honeyed tone again. To feel her mouth on your skin, her fingers inside you bringing you to completion.
“Of course,” you answer. “I’d love to have you,”
Peggy smiles. “Well then, goodnight, friend,”
Friend. The word stings like an ice pick through the chest.
“Goodnight,” you reply in a voice uncertain, small.
Peggy reaches your door, hand on the knob, but she doesn’t turn it yet. Instead, she spins on her heel to face you. She’s at your bed in a few strides, kneeling in front of you, and before you can say anything, she captures your lips with hers again.
It’s soft, tame compared to the feverish ones from before. You make sure to pour everything that you’re feeling into it since you’re not sure when it’ll happen again. And Peggy kisses you like she has all the time in the world, despite her earlier urgency to leave. When you finally part, you rest your forehead against Peggy’s, breathing each other in one last time.
It takes all of her willpower to make herself step back, to head back to your bedroom too. This time, she does open it, and with one last look at you over her shoulder and one last smile, she slips out, taking your heart with her.
