Just running in a snow squall the day before Thanksgiving. Winter, you’re not gonna be easy this year are you? 🤔 A good reminder to soak in the more mild weather now while you can! ☺️😉 Winter Running Tip: set a threshold. Two winters ago I told myself I’d run outside as long as it was over 10 degrees. Otherwise I took it to the treadmill if I wasn’t feeling braver than the elements. Treadmill miles are real miles! Since I’m training for spring races again, I plan to use that strategy again this year; however, I did invest in an indoor track club - so now I just need to get my butt there during the week! 😇 📸: Sissycat (while she is also running in ❄️💨☃️🌨🌪😳) @ Marine Corps Marathoners: 👀 #THESHIRT #rockthemock #run603 . . Ps, a nice chilly gust of wind was making my form look so great #instarunner #marinecorpsmarathon #marathontraining #pgdc18 #furtherfasterforever #sweateveryday #snowrun #running #runningmotivation #runchat #runforlife #runhappy #justrun (at Deerfield, New Hampshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq2Zz6NB3yt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=t68u8lik2390
#FBF to 2014 • my 4th marathon • my 4th MCM in a row • my first time breaking 4 hours! . . I had an amazing plan in 2014. I PLANNED on taking it out easy. I planned on around a 1:58 half with a slight fade, and a 2:00 back half. I planned to stay with the 4:00 group. But things didn’t go as planned. . . During the first mile, the 4 hour group went left and I went right.... I lost them. Then I went to split my watch (timex) at mile 2 and it had stopped it self. Two miles in and I had NO IDEA my pace!! Then I remembered MCM has great 5k markers, so I ran 5ks, trying to keep them under 27. It felt easy! Then I hit the half with a PR 🤦🏼♀️ 1:51:13. I made an intentional decision to slow down and go for a 2:08 second half. . . The weather cooperated and I got to see my boyfriend at the time and my puppy 🐶 ❤️ around mile 18 (I think!). I finished the second half with a strong 2:05:57 for a finish time of 3:57:10. It took 4 years, a cool day, and the right mindset for me to break 4 hours. In fact, I didn’t do it again until Chicago 2017! (In 2016 I was 4:01:40) . . The marathon is a fragile beast. You can train perfectly and have the day go wrong - humidity, nutrition, illness- or you can have an amazing day that’s not backed by any kind of intentional training (2014 MCM and 2017 Chicago for me were both “surprise” PRs). But one things for sure, you have to respect the 26.2 distance and keep your mind POSITIVE!! . . #marathon #runwiththemarines #marinecorpsmarathon #goldenretriever #teamintraining #inspiringrunners #runningmotivation #runwalkrun https://www.instagram.com/p/BpZdC2JFDOS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1i7svslf5zq3j
#MarineCorpsMarathon is such a special race. It was an honor to wear the #TeamRWB #Eagle out there today. #MCM (at Washington Monument)
#medalmonday my finisher’s medal from the 42nd Marine Corp Marathon yesterday! 18 months, almost to the day, since I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This marathon is something that, even before my diagnosis, I never thought I’d be able to finish. They have 3 different time checkpoints, that you have to reach by a certain time. I managed to beat all 3, which was my only goal for this race. #personal #instagram #longdistancerunner #mcmarathon #runwiththemarines #marinecorpsmarathon #gettingbetterslowly #fuckgbs #gbssucks
It was a good day today on the road back to regular running and training. After sending my track athletes out for their run at practice, I took to the field behind the school and ran at a very easy recovery pace. For the first time, I did so without taking walk breaks. I had a feeling that if I kept the effort easy, it would work -- and it did. It also helped that I was running in grass and dirt the whole time, no doubt. I felt the knee a tiny bit, but it was fine afterwards and it didn't lock up on me later. I still did some precautionary icing at home this evening, just to make sure there are no overnight flare-ups. All feels pretty good, and I'm definitely happy about being able to pass this test! That said, I'm not getting ahead of myself. Next run won't be until the weekend. Core strength and upper body work tomorrow. And before I forget, congrats to all who got through the Marine Corps Marathon lottery today!
Some recovery miles along the C&O this morning! Can’t complain! #berlinmarathon2019 #marinecorpsmarathon https://www.instagram.com/p/B0tFszfHbc_/?igshid=h69xh5rzl7m
The picture says it all! Had to rein it in this morning. Legs felt snappy and happy. 9 miles and that's all she wrote. I'll run 3 on Monday and Wednesday and 2 on Friday or Saturday then I can to have a 26.2 mile tour of Berlin. I can't wait to soak it all in and have a fun time! #marinecorpsmarathon #berlinmarathon #taper (at Chesapeake and Ohio Canal) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2rZZKmnVNH/?igshid=16eaxbbmyp5y
