Born in Grenoble, France, he entered the seminary at a young age despite his father’s disapproval. After becoming very ill and almost dying, he made a miraculous recovery and was ordained to the diocesan priesthood in 1834, and later joined the Marists. Overcoming many difficulties he established the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, both dedicated to adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. {website}

New poll shows Americans overwhelmingly oppose anti-transgender laws

Marist College has been using the slogan “Protect the Pack” to get students to be mindful of COVID-19 protocols and testing on campus but it seems like it may also be interested in protecting itself from legal action by currently enrolled students. The college is currently experiencing what seems like an unfolding COVID-19 crisis with a six fold increase in cases over the course of a single week, 28 cases to 170 in an eight day time period. Some students are begging for in person classes to be called off while at the same time students are saying the college is asking them to sign a waiver that indemnifies them of any responsibility should they get sick in order to have access to the student’s online class portal iLearn — a seemingly necessary component of everyday student life. One student noted in online comments that she was trapped in her dorm room with her roommate for hours even after she found out the roommate tested positive because the school could not rehouse the positive student — subjecting the non-positive roommate to potential exposure in an enclosed space for an extended period of time. Total Cost for Marist College including Room and Board for a year is roughly $50k and students are not happy with many of the school’s recent decisions surrounding the current COVID-19 outbreak — with some mentioning online that they feel the school leadership has failed the student body. The school seemed to deal with COVID-19 much better in the Fall 2020 semester according to comments online from students, it’s yet to be seen if they will adjust current protocols on campus further to quell the current outbreak — currently the campus is on “Pause” through March 23, 2021 but has not canceled all in person learning as of now and many facilities remain open on the Poughkeepsie campus.

Poll: Trump Approval Down, Slips With Base

While the longest government shutdown in U.S. history continues, President Trump's approval rating is down, and there are cracks showing with his base.

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds Trump's approval rating down and his disapproval rating up from a month ago. He currently stands at 39 percent approve, 53 disapprove — a 7-point net change from December when his rating was 42 percent approve, 49 percent disapprove.

And the movement has come from within key portions of his base. He is:

Down significantly among suburban men, a net-positive approval rating of 51-to-39 percent to a net-negative of 42 percent approve, 48 percent disapprove. That's a net change of down 18 percentage points;

Down a net of 13 points among white evangelicals, from 73-to-17 percent approve to 66-to-23 percent approve;

Down a net of 10 points among Republicans, from 90-to-7 percent approve to 83-to-10 percent;

Down marginally among white men without a college degree, from 56-to-34 percent approve to 50-to-35 percent approve, a net change downward of 7 points.
