Master Ash is a violent boring dude who abuses Denna. Denna is a complex interesting person who protects her dim but kind friend Geoffrey from scams, rescues a girl from a rapist and buys Kvothe a lute case with most of her money despite her being homeless and poor. Sorry, but Denna will always be more likeable and interesting than Master Ash.

Inktober, Day Thirteen - Ash

For today’s prompt, I drew Cinder (AKA, according to some fan theories, Master Ash) from the Kingkiller Chronicles. This is him moments after killing nearly every person in a travelling theater troupe; He is not charming.

Are you familiar with the whole theory about how Bredon/Master Ash/Cinder are all the same person?? Thoughts??? 👀

Yeah—tbh I prefer Bredon is Master Ash. And that Cinder has nothing to do with Denna—though I say I prefer it, I enjoy the implications of Cinder being all three people. It’s excitingly dramatic.

This time... Denna from "The name of the wind" by Pat Rothfuss.

The Cthaeh lied to Kvothe. It said that Kvothe would never ask Denna to leave Master Ash, and if he did she would never agree.

But spurned by that comment Kvothe did ask her, and she did agree to leave him. They made plans to meet in a small village a span later, giving her time to collect her things. Kvothe didn’t truly understand Master Ash, and Denna didn’t either. What Master Ash has, Master Ash keeps. If he cannot keep what is his, no one else can have it either.

Kote isn’t Kvothe in hiding, Kote is Kvothe waiting. Terrified to leave and miss her, never knowing what happened. Kept from helping the world or exacting revenge by bonds stronger than iron.

The Cthaeh sees all futures, and sets us down the worst one.

For all you Kingkiller Chronicles fans out there: Captured in Words has a very interesting and thoughtful video on who Denna’s patron might be. He looks at the arguments for and against whether Denna’s Patron Master Ash is Cinder (a member of the Chandrian, who are the antagonists of the books), someone who is a member of Amyr (the Chandrian’s enemies) or Bredon (Kvothe’s nobleman friend who meets Kvothe at the Maer’s Court in the country Vintas). Trigger warning: the video does contain mentions of murder, emotional and physical abuse of fictional characters. Please note that his video contains spoilers for The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. The third book Doors of Stone isn’t out yet.
