Here’s Master Green, the electric jellyfish!
Various Kirby characters as part of a 30th anniversary collab :) you can see the whole thing here
Name: Master Green
Debut: Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Yes, I know! Master Green is not green in this image. Please, get it all out of your system now. “More like Master Yellow!” is probably what you’re thinking. Maybe “More like Master Orange!”, if you interpret it as more of a light orange than a deep yellow. Either way is fine. But either way, this is still Master Green! That is their name!
Master Green is a really great sort of creature, a jellyfish who is able to move on land, standing on its tentacles! I have always really loved this sort of jellyfish stance. It is just darling. And those simple little eyes are even more darling! Now, Master Green is not just a jellyfish, but a Cartoon Jellyfish, and that means that it wields not venom, but electricity!
Yeowch! Please resist the urge to hold or shake hands with Master Green. There are plenty of ways to show affection without contact. Master Green has a variety of electrical attacks! It can pew-pew-shoot some little lightning bolts, send a shockwave across the floor, or do a classic Spark forcefield attack like Sparky. My favorite attack, however, is the one that does not have anything to do with electricity...
Master Green jumps, proudly brandishes a Star, and tosses it down! This is a fun attack not just for presenting the common Kirby “impact stars” as more of a tangible item or weapon, but because I just love that dynamic pose Master Green does. It feels like such a grand attack, to have it strike a pose in the air!
It also looks like it’s going for a high-five! Yeah! Woo-hoo!
Master Green’s only game appearance was in Dream Land 2, but that does not stop it from appearing every once in a while! Here we have its appearance in the Kirby anime pilot, by far its greenest appearance yet! Green and MEAN! Is this what you wanted? You couldn’t be happy with Yellow and Mellow?
Master Green has also made an appearance in the wonderful Kirby Twitter artwork, which celebrates the series’ history like nobody’s business. Not THAT green here, maybe just a smidge, but oh so chumbly and cute! And aquatic! It amuses me that this jellyfish is only depicted as aquatic in supplemental materials. Someone who only plays the games would think Master Green is completely terrestrial!
I wonder what the “Master” title implies with Master Green. Do you think they are a mentor to young jellies training to hone their zapping abilities? Little Master Green polyps hopping about? Whatever the case, Master Green is certainly splendid, and I 100% believe the title is well-earned!
This is my entry for the Kirby Boss Art Jam! It's Master Green!
(Did it on a phone with a finger so it looks kinda cruddy .-.)
Master Green!
I suppose he’s a master of green? He’s pretty yellow though. So I’m not sure what that’s about. He’s a super cute jellyfish though so there’s that.
