the Hiyoko thing I submitted gave me another idea. Mikan and Hiyoko working together as masterminds. Mikan's the original one and returned Hiyoko's despair memories as a twisted kind of "thank you" after her bullying just lead her into more of the despair she craved from starting the KG.

Mikan knew what she wanted to do with the killing game, all to reunite her with Junko. The simulation wouldn’t work if she had anything to say about it- and finally people would listen to her.
The bullying she experienced at the hands of Hiyoko was just divine. Even there, she was being put down again and again! She had to thank Hiyoko for that sweet despair.
So she decided to return Hiyoko’s memories, give her the despair Mikan knew she craved. It was easy to fake their deaths from there, taking Ibuki down with them to make it look more real.
Mikan still got incredibly despair-ridden watching her classmates fall even more, one at a time. Hiyoko being at her side made things a little more interesting, sharing the despair.
There was so much despair the two of them could spread to not only their classmates, but the world. And Mikan even got more just by being in Hiyoko’s presence.
