“Blake deserves so much better than this fandom”
Counter: Yang deserves so much better than Blake. Why do you guys ship them together?
Well first off, Blake’s an amazing person/character. Of all of team RWBY she has the loftiest goal. Ruby just wants to help people, Weiss wants to reclaim her family name for the better, and Yang originally wanted to be a huntress for the adventure (though it’s likely that’s shifted more to wanting to protect the people she cares about at this point). Blake though? Blake wants equality for her entire race. She wants an end to racism, something we haven’t even accomplished in the entirety of human history (and Remnant seems to be less progressive even than places like the US if the explicit segregation is anything to go by).
She’s also sooooo strong and courageous. Blake has dealt with discrimination her whole life, been part of organization that went from peaceful protest to terrorist activity, and escaped from an abusive relationship. On top of that she’s faced down the White Fang time and time again in her pursuit to do what’s right, and stared her abuser down twice. She’s also managed to actually bring change into the organization, showing that her determination has payed off.
She appears quiet and anti-social on the surface but truthfully she loves her friends and family, and is more than capable of being just as silly as all of them. Blake cares about them so much that she’s the first member of the team to put into words how much they mean to her, and she’s willing to be miserable and alone if it means they’ll be safe. People see her as selfish for running but on the contrary she’s being selfless when you take her motivation into account (protecting them from Adam).
Sure, she’s made mistakes but that makes her all the more compelling as a character. She’s complicated and flawed which ultimately makes her relatable, and just because she’s made mistakes doesn’t mean she can’t work towards fixing them.
Second, the original post had nothing do with Bumbleby but since you asked...
From the moment they become partners Blake and Yang just click in a way only Ren and Nora do: they get along flawlessly, their teamwork allows them to be the first pair to reach the relics, and it’s made clear that they enjoy each other’s presence. Despite seemingly being so different on the surface they just get each other in away that no one else does. When Yang is expressing pride for her sister Blake’s the one person who notices and when Yang is worried about Ruby during the fall of Beacon it’s Blake that knows what to say to reassure her. On Yang’s side she’s the only one who can get through to Blake when she’s hyperfocused on stopping Torchwick.
Yang brightens up Blake’s life to the point that it’s been explicitly said by Gray himself that Blake is sunnier for having been around her. On the other side Blake is the one person Yang feels comfortable relying on. Yang admits to needing her there for her and Blake is the first person she opens up to about her mother. They also think so highly of each other: Blake sees Yang as the embodiment of strength while Yang admires her determination and passion (”I’m sure you’ll figure it out. You’re not one to back down from a challenge Blake”).
There’s sooooo much more that can be said about their relationship, but for now I’ll just leave it at how well they match each other and how mutual their relationship is.
