The C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa Are Back with New Comic Book Series

Oni Press and the Nacelle Company have revealed their first look the new Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa comic book series. The comic book, from writer Matt Hotson and artist Juan Gedeon, is an introduction to the characters of Moo Mesa.

"Before he takes the badge, ride into the lawless world of Moo Mesa as we meet Marshal Moo Montana in his earliest adventure! In a time gripped by fear and uncertainty, disorder pervades the desert, and the citizens of Cowtown have started to go missing—including Moo’s former mentor, the respected Sheriff Mary Quine. With shadows growing across the mesa, Moo must navigate old grudges, new alliances, and a conspiracy that reaches deep into the heart of the mesa’s past." (Oni Press)

Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa #1 (of 4) goes on sale on September 17, 2025. Cover A and a 1:10 foil interlocking cover are by Juan Gedeon. Cover B and a black and white variant are by Andrew Krahnke. Cover C and a foil variant are by Joe Palmer. A handbook variant cover is by Gavin Smith. A 1:20 variant cover is by Patrick Spaziante. A blank sketch variant is also available.

In related news, The Nacelle Company is also creating a new animated series based on Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa as part of a plan to create a shared universe called the NacelleVerse. The other two planned animated series are RoboForce and Biker Mice From Mars.

Out this week: Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa #1 (Oni Press, $4.99): 

Hey, if you didn’t realize it (like me), the “C.O.W.” in the title stands for “Code of the West.” And yes, it spells out “Cow,” because this is a comic based on a 90s cartoon that featured anthropomorphic gunslinging cows in the Old West. Apparently they were mutated by a comet or something, according to Wikipedia, where I spent way too much time today reading about a cartoon I’ve never seen — and making sure I typed out the name correctly. This one is by writer Matt Hotson and artist Juan Gedeon, and it’s part of Oni’s bigger Nacelleverse line. (Fun fact: Archie had a series based on the cartoon back in the 1990s as well).

BOOM! Studios Announces “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Comic Special”

To celebrate the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ 30th anniversary, Boom! Studios has announced a special anthology comic featuring five new stories as well as 24 pages of classic material for fans. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Comic Special anthology includes stories from writers Ryan Parrott, Mat Groom, Any Jo Johnson and Matt Hotson, Maria Ingrande Mora, and Melissa Flores and artists Hendry Prasetya, Eleonora Carlini, Marco Renna, and Jo Mi-Gyeong.

Content included in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Comic Special are:

a spotlight on Ernie in Angel Grove

Alpha 5′s struggle to find his true purpose,

a “What If?” story about Tommy’s powers, which will introduce a new alternate universe

a tale about Tommy and Kat’s marriage

a deeper look as Ranger Academy

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Comic Special will go on sale on August 30,2023. The special features a main cover by Dan Mora and variant covers by Rian Gonzales, Jamal Campbell, Bon Bernardo, Miguel Mercado, and Goñi Montes.

Out this week: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #1 (BOOM!, $4.99): 

The original Pink Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, co-writes this one with Matt Hotson, joined by Nico Leon on art. It’s set in an alternate timeline where the Power Rangers defeated Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, but at a “terrible cost,” then picks up 22 years after the team disbanded. So it kind of has a Last Ronin vibe to it.
