of course, my beloved, remus lupin goes first:
his mother is welsh and grew up in the countryside before moving to cardiff at sixteen
hope lupin's first language was welsh and she later learned english when she moved to cardiff meaning that she has a thick welsh accent
his father is where things start to get complicated though
lyall lupin was born in poland to a french mother and a polish father, who were both jewish !!
he moved from poland to france when he was around eight or nine, thus becoming fluent in french and polish
when he got his letter of acceptance from hogwarts, he left his parents behind in france and he spent his summers switching between his families in france n poland
when lyall arrived in hogwarts, he had to learn english for the first time as his parents hadn't felt it necessary for him to
this lead to him speaking with a heavy accent that was something of frankenstein mash of french and polish
remus lupin himself was born in wales when his parents were quite young, which could help explain their financial status
the first language remus picked up was welsh due to hope's insistence and the area they lived in!! the second would follow as polish after lyall's competitive nature
his next language would be english as hope argued to lyall that it was important
he's fluent in all three languages and knows the majority of french although he struggles to write it occasionally
french was only taught to remus at lyall's mother's insistence that he learn the entire family's languages
because of this, remus is a multilingual non-practising jewish, french/polish/welsh person!! although he does hold a welsh citizenship
next is the light of my life, james potter:
his father comes from a big indian family who moved to england in the early 50s and so technically, his father is desi
fluemont potter is fluent in english and hindi!!
his mother is also of indian descent
euphemia potter is a black woman who also comes from an indian family although her father is pakistani
she is fluent in english and speaks a bit of hindi and bengali! she has an adorable english accent
james potter is blasian, desi and fluent in hindi and english, although he knows a few terms in bengali
he holds english citizenship !!
onto the star, literally, sirius black:
sirius comes from a long line of english witches and wizards that have been living in england since the dawn of time it seems
despite this, the family is said to be french
all black family members know english, french and because they are so old fashioned, latin too
sirius grew up learning english and french at the same time so he often uses words interchangeably between the two languages
he learnt latin from the age of five upwards, and still retains most of his knowledge of it
sirius is trilingual, white and english!! he retains an english citizenship
amd last but certainly not least, peter pettigrew:
his father grew up in guernsey and only knows english although he does have a bit of an accent, which really comes out when he's angry with peter or peter's sister
peter's mother grew up in london although she too is from the channel islands, specifically, jersey!! she speaks english and french
she met peter's father when she was around nineteen, while visiting family in guernsey, and they soon married when they turned twentyish
however, peter never learned french and he only knows english
he actually holds english citizenship as his mother made sure of it
peter grew up protestant and still held the majority of his beliefs even while going to hogwarts
