McGonagall: Mr Potter....
Me: OMG MINNIE’S SUCH A MOOD
Remember how in book 1 McGonagall spent a day watching the dursleys and was completely aghast that harry had to go live with them And how in book 3 harry explains to her how he didn't get his hogsmeade form signed because the dursleys are muggles who don't understand And McGonagall has to be all stern and forbid harry from going and he thinks she's being mean but really she just feels sorry for this little boy who has to live with an awful family McGonagall was always looking out for Harry, even when he was a baby. She is the best character come on
A Toast to Lord Voldemort. Written by magnetic_pole, read by codeswitch. Length: 34:06. Original fic here. Listen/download on audiofic.
"You wouldn't remember, Neville, but it was a year-long celebration after Voldemort fell the first time," Professor McGonagall said. "A thaw after a long winter," Gran said. "We'd been avoiding things for so long," Professor McGonagall said. "Not just the things that had been banned, but the things we'd been afraid to own or look at or talk about."
Will I ever record a podfic in which Minerva McGonagall is not a complete and utter badass? Who even knows. Only time will tell.
Here's a post-war story for you, listeners. After Neville has started teaching at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall and Augusta Longbottom get married. Unexpectedly, without ceremony, in an office in the Ministry's Department of Interminable Fine Print. And, over a few drinks in the Leaky Cauldron, they confide in Neville the story of them, and the story of the Wizarding World in their time. You guys, I care about this fic so much. Minerva and Augusta's dialogue--wow, the snark, the collaboration, the gentle and sharp reminders. Those two go so well together. And Neville's fraught, patient, love for his grandmother, in all her toughness and overbearing high expectations. And then there are the dropped details that sketch in a much larger portrait of the world than a 4500-word story would imply. The politics, the families, the changes that these two women saw, the heartbreak of living through three wars. The ways in which they lived their lives for other people and then, as old women, decided to say you know what, fuck it, we're doing this for ourselves.
Thanks to magnetic_pole for permission, of course.
