Behold! Myself and @academicbrainrot as Devotion and Domination of the Endless! (Respectively, of course)
The color palettes are based on our blogs, and the clothing/armor style is taken directly from 13th century gothic knights and kings. Also, it’s heavily referenced and influenced by art from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, a movie we both love.
I love how this art piece turned out, I’m super proud of myself! I had to give myself wings and Domination a halo tho, bc of ~aesthetic~ reasons. I hope y’all enjoy!

Declarations
Over the weeks, small skirmishes had taken place between the two kingdoms. The Queen had led night raids, disrupting the Southern King’s forces as they slept. She respected the Northern King’s wishes to not harm the villagers.
“They are innocents largely caught in the middle. Do not seek a fight with them first, but if they attack you then by all means, defend yourself.” He had said.
Roads in and around the Southern kingdom had been blocked, inhibiting travel of enemy troops and supplies. This had been achieved by felling large trees to block the roadways and destroying the roads themselves. This was done by digging large ruts and gullies before a rainstorm so that they filled with water became impassable by carriage or wagon.
The small battles came to an end when the Southern King broke through the line of foot soldiers in the middle of the night. He had a small contingent of men with him, but he had been able to hold an entire village hostage. He herded all the inhabitants into a pit, ordered his men to pour hot tar on them, and tossed in a flaming torch. He then left the area without inciting further conflict.
The Queen watched the young King’s face as he listened to the messenger’s report. His face slowly morphed from one of shock to an image of intense fury. He rose from his throne and moved to stand in front of the Queen, offering her his arm.
“Walk with me?” He asked, his voice an eerie calm. She gave a nod and looped her arm through his. The young King rarely offered her his arm or hand, knowing how such affectionate gestures could be perceived. He would never presume to know her future endeavors. Perhaps she planned to rule her own Kingdom by herself after all.
The two royals walked in silence down the corridor, the Queen looking over at the King. He walked, staring at the stone floor ahead of him, with his mouth set in a frown. His brows were drawn close tighter, either in anger or thought; she couldn’t tell the difference yet, but soon she would. Soon she would know his thoughts better than himself at times. She would wait until he is ready to speak.
He led her to a narrow staircase that spiraled downward into darkness. He lowered his arm, the Queen releasing it, as the King took a torch from the entrance to the staircase. He held the torch in his left hand, the Queen noting the King had favored that hand to do many tasks.
“You’re left handed, my King?” She asked, the King offering her his right hand. She knew many of the rulers outside her domaine favored using their right hand, so to meet one who broke that constant was refreshing.
“Yes, I could never get the hang of using my right hand. Though my tutors tried very hard.” He laughed lightly. She allowed him to lead her down the steep steps, the only light emanating from the torch the King held up. He made sure the smoke wafted above the Queen’s head and not back into her face.
The air got colder the further down they walked, the Queen holding tightly to the King’s hand as the turning of the staircase was making her a little dizzy. Soon the stairs ended, opening up onto a tunnel, cold air blew from somewhere ahead of them. Suddenly the Queen became aware of the walls glittering as they passed by. The tunnel’s carved stone wall had become rough, natural stone. The tunnel open up to a truly magical sight, a large grotto full of sparkling amethyst crystals. The naturally growing stones coated the walls and ceiling around them. In the center was a pool fed from an underground spring, the water was like a smooth mirror.
“My father came here as a kid, brought by his father, and so on down my lineage. Technically it’s a secret grotto, but I think I can trust you. As my father trusted my mother, as she came here at times as well. It’s a good place to think, it’s quiet and the chances of you being disturbed are low.” The King spoke softly, his voice still echoing in the caves, and took a seat on a large rock that had been worn smooth by years of use. He patted the space beside him, the Queen sat.
“This is…beautiful doesn’t seem to be the right word. A marvel perhaps?” She suggested.
“I think that’s a good one, or maybe majestic?”
“Oh, I like that one.” The Queen agreed, oblivious that she was the King’s true subject for that word. The two fell quiet, the King’s face falling back into that realm between thoughtful and upset.
“Tomorrow I’m sending word to the Southern King to rally his men and pray, for I will be storming his keep. That disgusting attack on my villagers, that act ended any negotiations unless it consists of him begging on his knees.” The King spoke quietly, which made his words all the more intimidating. She nodded, it was the only course of action he could take after such atrocity. He turned his body to face her, she angled hers towards him.
“I shall very much like for you to be at my side, my Queen.” He took her hands in his. He was more nervous here than he had been in front of the Southern King.
“Of course, my King.” She replied earnestly. The Young King breathing a sigh of relief. She had been impressed when this young ruler had boldly ridden into her forest and demanded an audience. He knew the consequences could’ve resulted in his immediate execution by her hand, a sentence that had befallen others. But he had taken the chance, and not for himself but ultimately for his people. She had seen over these long months just how much he cared for them. They each needed each other to make this Kingdom flourish, for a ruler is nothing without the people he or she is responsible for. Without them there is no food, clothing, or construction. From what she had observed, he was a fair but stern ruler. He didn’t tax any family more than they could afford. He didn’t tolerate crimes committed, but also recognized when such deeds were born from greed or desperation. He tried to fix the problems he could and asked for help deciding on problems he was unsure how to handle.
He hadn’t been offended or disgusted when she had revealed herself to be the ruler he sought, a Queen and not a King. She had begun to feel affectionate towards him, his smile being one of her favorite things. She watched as he brought her hands to his lips and lightly kissed them, her heart fluttering in her chest; the sensation surprising her. Others had kissed her hands very much like he had just done, but none had elicited such a response from her body.
“My King, is the water pure?” She whispered, he looked confused for a second but nodded. She then surprised him by taking his hands and pulling him to his feet as she stood. She released his hands to remove the heavier outer portion of her gown, wearing a light weight undergarment. The King immediately looking away, the Queen smirking at the blush spreading on his face.
“It’s okay, I won’t behead you for looking.” she giggled, kicking her shoes off.
“Oh good, because I’ve heard stories.” The King teased, pretending to wipe sweat of his brow. He watched as the Queen stepped into the water, only going in as far as her mid-calves.
“Oh! It’s freezing!!” She gasped, the King laughing at her shocked expression. She made a face at him and kicked water towards him, the King jumping back.
“Oh, what? Is the King scared of getting wet?” She teased, slowly walking back deeper.
“No!” He replied, making a face back at her.
“Prove it your Majesty.” She challenged, walking back further, her cotton chemise quickly becoming soaked.
The King stood on the dry bank with his hands on his hips, regarding the Queen now standing in waist deep water.
“Fine.” He replied finally, pulling off his boots and removing the doublet he wore. Wearing his trousers and tunic, he followed her into the cold water.
If one were to have stumbled upon this sight, as it wasn’t impossible (there was an outdoor entrance, but it was hard to find and even harder to get through), they would simply see a young man and a young woman taking a swim. It would be clear to the onlooker that there was something blossoming between the two, the way he looked at her and she at him.
Their laugher echoed off the walls of the cave as did the occasional playful squeal. They challenged each other to see who could hold their breath longer, the King winning that one two out of three attempts. During a lull in their laughter, they heard two voices from outside. Their Generals calling for them.
“Are you sure they’re around here?” The Queen’s General questioned.
“I’m pretty sure I heard laughter from over here…” the King’s General replied.
“Could’ve been a forest nymph.” The Queen’s General offered.
“Don’t even joke about that.” The other General replied.
“I’m not joking.” The Forest General said.
The voices became distant as the two continued to search for their rulers.
“They are going to be so mad with us.” The Queen’s voice was barely above a whisper. She looked at the King, who had his chin and mouth lowered under water.
“What are you-Ah!” She gave a startled yell as he sprayed water from his mouth into her face. He laughed as she playfully tackled him, both of them dipping underwater.
Bioluminescent algae spotted on the sides of the pool provided enough light for the two to be able to see each other under the water. It gave the swimmers an ethereal quality. Here they weren’t royals, they were just themselves. She took the initiative, taking him by the tunic and pulling him closer to her. Thankfully he was receptive and took a gentle hold of her upper arms. She closed the space between them as she place her lips on his. His hands moved to her upper back, holding her close to him. Their shared breath bubbled to the surface of the pool.
The two had forgotten they were underwater, slowly sinking towards the bottom due to lack of treading water and air escaping from their lungs. The new lovers were quickly reminded of their circumstances and gasped for air upon surfacing.
They exited the pool, the Queen wringing out her hair as the King twisting as much water out of her skirt as he could. He then helped her back into the heavier outer gown, putting his own doublet back on after.
He then approached her, taking her face in his hands and pulling her forehead to his.
“Thank you for this. If I am to be dead by the end of month, at least I will have this memory to visit when that happens.” He whispered. She placed her hands on his cheeks, kissing him.
“As am I.” She whispered back.
The two walked back up the spiral staircase, holding tight to each other’s hand until they were one curve away from the top of the stairs. As they had expected, their Generals were standing at the top of the step, arms folded over their chests. They took in the sight before them. A King and a Queen, both soaking wet with water pooling at their feet and hair plastered to their face.
“Have a nice swim, Majesties?” The General asked his King and Queen.
“Yes, quite. Did you enjoy yourself, Highness?” The King asked her.
“Indeed, quite refreshing.” She nodded, the two slipping passed the Generals and walking back towards the Throne room.
