Mega Flygon has always been that golden goose of the fandom, spurring countless designs and iterations on the idea that while spectacular, I never felt quite hit the mark.

Flygon finds success in its simplicity: just the right amount of color and just the right amount of shape balance. Adding too much paradoxically takes more and more away from what made Flygon such a stand out.

To do the Mega justice, I feel like it needs to be bold and surprising, even derailing the english name "Fly"gon as it brings back a part of itself long forgotten. Something reminiscent of the fact that the pre-evolution Trapinch has the exact same base attack total as its final stage with a whopping 100, and in need of more power it calls back to that stage of its life once more.

two flygon mega wips. i couldnt decide on whether to lean into the pilot theme or mystical theme so i tried both. note: colored on tablet so colors may be way off, assume regular flygon palette (except for the first one's light yellow)

i dont see a lot of mega flygon designs that lean a bunch into its entries as a desert spirit so i went for a more elegant design.

Mega Evolution has enlargened the plates on its tail, allowing it to kick up mighty sandstorms in a few fans. While it lacks the ability to fly, it has grown closer to the ground feeling the vibrations of the tiniest seismic waves.

this one could qualify for Ground/Fairy tbh which would be huge, good or bad. it only has Alluring Voice to boost while losing stab on dragon moves. but it also fits perfectly fine as Ground/Dragon. this one definitely will pull some of its attack into special attack along with the BST bump.

the other one i just went: latis are jets, grachomp z is a plane, so mega flygon stealth bomber. if i kept both, this one definitely would be Z.

It can soar at high speeds, creating a wind behind it. It is hard to see it until the inevitable sandstorm forms from its flight.

it keeps its typing. no Bug, not for Flygon. thought about adding back the trapinch mouth which is why this is a bit messier and less shapely (?). I just ended up just adding the eye sparkle. it makes it a reckless pilot full of energy and it fits the cute theme Flygon has. I love the cool designs but at heart Flygon is a mix of cute and elegant.

i tried to stick to the design philosophy a lot as a lot of megas don't drastically change the mon completely and only amplify traits. i think both, mainly the first, deviate a bit too much from flygon but they're wips

Mega Flygon is The Desert Spirit! It has long been dubbed The Desert Spirit. With the discovery of its new Mega Evolution, historians now question if this was the form once seen when Flygon got its nickname. Is this a new Mega Evolution or is it newly reintroduced?

ngl after 10 years of being a Mega Flygon believer now every time I see someone mention how much it deserved it or how much of a missed opportunity it is I just chuckle like "sure buddy you must be the first person in the world to think that".
