Aqua Leader Archie and Mega Sharpedo
Best Mega Evolution Tournament- Round 1: Match 4
Mega Sharpedo vs Mega Darkrai
Mega Sharpedo
Mega Darkrai
It's our third matchup to feature a type mirror match! This one for the Dark type!
Mega Sharpedo, signature Pokémon of Team Aqua's Archie in Alpha Sapphire, has one of the strongest jaws around! A lightning fast, fearsome beast in the water, it can reach speeds over 125 mph in an instant! Its species name, the Brutal Pokémon, has never been more accurate, as mega evolution increases its combat instincts, makes spikes burst from its head as it rushes enemies, and energy runs through old scars- the yellow markings on its body. A classic Hoenn Pokémon given new life, it can be a terror in battle, especially if it makes use of its base form's Speed Boost before it mega evolves. Is that sheer speed and power appealing enough to earn a vote?
Standing in Sharpedo's way is Mega Darkrai! Another one of the newest Megas from the Mega Dimension DLC, it has to be one of the most terrifying Pokémon to exist! Now much larger, Mega Darkrai is able to block out the sun and plunge its surroundings into darkness, where it can disappear. And if you think you can hide from Mega Darkrai- you'd be mistaken, with its body hiding a huge, evil eye that no one can escape the gaze of. With a massive base stat total of 700, it has the highest stat total of any Dark type Pokémon, tied with Mega Tyranitar, and its stats are arranged to make it exceedingly strong and defensive too! It actually loses 40 points of speed upon mega evolving, but does it really matter when it can hit as hard as Mega Darkrai can? Its base form did very well in our Best Mythical Tournament, losing in the Quarter Finals to the eventual bronze medalist, so can it do just as well- or even better- here?
