Going to Vienna was never something that Gilbert enjoyed doing. In fact, he tried to avoid it at all costs, if necessary. So when he was on his way, in an effort to make some political small-talk to people he despised but also see his life-long friend who was obviously in distress, that he was needed elsewhere, in Hungary - he ensured that he was steadily on his way.
It was further south than Vienna was, so it took longer to get to, but he didn’t mind that at all. Waiting in a carriage for hours, however, was hardly his idea of a good time. But Erszi seemed to need more palatable company than the Austrians she had been forced to surround herself with.
So when he touched the ground in front of the palace, Gilbert finally let out a sigh of relief, stretching out. He wore his dress military uniform, as per his norm, but it was suitable for traveling.
He was greeted by servants and his horse and carriage taken away. “Please tell the lady of the house that I have arrived,” said Gilbert to one of the servants who was taking his things before going inside with an actual bright smile. Despite the unfortunate circumstances of their reunion, he was quite excited to see her.
