My heart is breaking. I generally like to keep my posts uplifting and positive, but this has haunted me. A women kneeling in the middle of a busy street near my studio, her loyal companion waiting and watching patiently (the dog in the foreground shadows). On her knees she was crying about having her children taken away from her and wanting to end her life. The world had broken her. And any one of us could be in her place, all it takes is one tragedy, one loss, one addiction, one heartbreak, one illness too many. Fearing her and her dog might be hit by oncoming traffic I called 911, others had apparently done the same. I have so many questions: Why are individuals like this poor woman not getting the care they need? Why are mentally ill people wandering the streets of our towns and cities? Why has our society forgotten them? Why has the wealthiest country in the world not made this a priority? As a nation, as a human race, we need to seriously address this issue. It’s a travesty, it’s shameful, it’s criminal, and terribly terribly sad. #mentallyill #homelessness #homelesslivesmatter #mentallychallenged #drugaddiction #socialjustice #socialanxiety #mentalhealth #socialissuesmatter (at Lower Haight) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCELdtLBa1iNdupl3ipjDwfoJKmpKHWj5Vg5DU0/?igshid=194me4ycvmm1v
