It has been so long I can't believe I sat today out of nowhere and wrote this down. @joekitsu passed on her writing bug to me yesterday and then I WAS UNSTOPPABLE <3
Do people even read obscure fics for such fandoms anymore? I will write anyway-- If you do read it, please leave a review!
🌴 Shanti from “The Jungle Book” and “The Jungle Book 2” serves as Mowgli’s love interest. In the first film, she innocently lures Mowgli into the man-village through her song “My Own Home”. Surprisingly, the creative team had a difficult time finding an appropriate ending for “Jungle Book”. The overall challenge was how to get Mowgli to the villlage after he spent most of the story trying to stay in the jungle despite the dangers. The idea was originated by Walt Disney during a story meeting. The idea of a pretty girl was initially frowned upon by the animators, particularly Ollie Johnston and Milt Kahl. However, Johnston, who animated the girl admitted that the more he worked on his animation assignment, the better he loved it.
In “The Jungle Book 2”, Shanti is at adds with Mowgli due to their differing views about the jungle. In the song, “Jungle Rhythm”, Mowgli sings about the positive aspects of the jungle and almost lured Shanti and the other village children into the jungle to show that it was not as dangerous as the grownups have said.

Very good movie. Just as dark and terrifying as before.
“As he stood in the red light of the oil-lamp, strong, tall and beautiful, his long black hair sweeping over his shoulders, the knife swinging at his neck, and his head crowned with a wreath of jasmine, he might easily have been mistaken for some wild god of a Jungle legend.”
The Jungle Books- The Spring Running-Rudyard Kipling
Reasons I really like Andy Serkis’s Jungle Book movie
Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan: he steals every scene he’s in and knocks it out of the park!
The emotions: there’s so much raw emotion in this movie, you can feel the characters’ love, anger, and sadness in every scene it’s in.
Niti Sawhney’s score: the score...OH the score!
The Depth: Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle embraces themes of otherness, danger, and growing up that the live action Disney movie never fully did and it made for a refreshing and even beautiful story.
The Attention to detail: the moss on Hathi, Shere Khan’s withered paw, the peeling skin on Kaa, it’s amazing how much work went into this movie.
The Fact that this is Andy Serkis’s first big production: mainly an actor until now, Serikis’s huge effort is astonishing, promising, and heartwarming all at the same time.
The Indian Culture: The inclusion of the Indian Holi festival, the soundtrack, the whole movie feels like it’s set in India. And that makes for a more grounded movie. And a refreshing one too.
Spoilers under the cut
