Nick Amaro x Reader- Chapter 6
“He’ll be lucky if he ever sees the light of day. The judge gave him life.”
Carisi and Amanda were discussing the outcome of your most recent case. After James Kesley was detained, he was convicted.
The punishment did in fact fit the crime. He threatened to bomb an entire precinct. Not to mention attempted rape. What you couldn’t shake was how horrified he looked in court. You had to testify, and the moment he saw your face he lost it. He almost pulled a gun from one of the officers who tried to calm him down.
Safe to say he’d be locked up for a very long time. But that terror, that look of absolute fear, you couldn’t help but wonder if you were the real monster in this scenario. What would you have done if the police didn’t show up when they did. You told yourself you wouldn’t kill him, but what if you did in fact ended up crossing that line.
What was stopping you the next time a criminal did something terrible, could you trust yourself to do the right thing? You pressed your face into the desk, trying to gather your thoughts. The lights in the room started flickering and you looked up. Carisi and Amanda did as well.
“What’s with the electricity lately, that’s been happening a lot.” Amanda pondered. You clenched your eyes shut to try and halt the blinking lights. When they finally did you released a heavy breath. “Hey you okay (Y/N), you look a bit pale.” Carisi walked over placing a hand on your shoulder and you stood quickly.
“I’m fine!” you snapped. The window a few feet away burst open and wind rushed in, knocking over the papers on your desk. A couple officers moved over to shut the window. Carisi raised his hand at the harsh breeze, then his eyes trained on you. Your head lowered as you basically ran out of the precinct, heading in the direction of the bathroom. You almost ran into Nick on your way out.
“(Y/N)?” you just walked around him, not making eye contact. When Nick entered he turned to his team for answers.
“It’s probably just the case, everyone deals with these things differently, give her a little space.” Amanda advised. Carisi bent to pick up the papers. As he was doing it, his eyes drifted to the window.
“Guys, there’s something I’ve been wondering for a while now…” His words trailed off as he stacked your papers securely back on your desk.
“A lot of weird stuff has been happening since (Y/N) showed up, at first I thought maybe I was just imagining it. “ He sat at his desk, at this point both Nick and Amanda were listening intently. He pulled up a clip. The title read. ‘The Flash in action.’ Amanda snorted.
“Are you serious, you actually believe that stuff.” Carisi ran a hand over his head.
“At first I didn’t but I did research. Apparently there was an explosion in Central City a few years back. The entire town was in chaos. A few months later there were reports of people displaying all kinds of weird abilities." Carisi opened another link, they were all stunned at the video of a wormhole opening in the sky.
“T-That has to be fake..” Nick muttered.
“I checked it all, this isn’t the only one. That Flash guy, he always shows up when something is about to go wrong. From what I gather he’s supposed to be some type of hero. Spandex and everything.” Another video appeared and they watched as a man in a red suit zoomed from one side of the screen to the next. Amanda let out a startled sound. “That’s..”
“Impossible.” Carisi finished. “That’s what I said. Listen, this could be all some ruse you know, to draw in people in their state, who knows. What I do know is James Kesley had defensive wounds all over his body. Broken ribs, skull fracture, busted lip, the works. There’s no way someone can inflict that kind of pain and walk away without so much as a bruise. He weighs twice as much as her. And he insisted in court that she attacked him without laying a finger on him. The guy may have been a scumbag, but the look in his eye when he saw her, that was fear. Fear of something he couldn’t explain. “ Carisi's statement left a lot for them to consider.
Nick wasn’t stupid either, for a while now he’d suspected something was different about you. He just couldn’t put his finger on it, that and he respected you enough to know that you would tell him what was wrong when you were ready.
“Even if she’s some superhuman, and that’s a strong if, is it really our place to judge her? And that guy Kesley, I would have done the same, hell he would have been ten feet below the earth if it were up to me.”
“Agreed.” Nick stated. They all just stayed there, not sure what to do with the new information. Olivia walked in. noticing the way her team was huddled together with contemplative looks on their faces. Fin was at her side. He laughed. “What’s with you guys, we slammed the guy you don’t have to look so worried.”
Carisi laughed nervously. How was he supposed to convince the two most level headed people he knew about their discovery.
~~
“Get out here. Carisi I think you need to lay off the internet for a while.” Carisi scratched his head irritated and Olivia laughed along with Fin’s joke. “You have to admit, this is a little bit of a stretch. They obviously altered the video.” She pushed the laptop away, removing her glasses. At this point they were all gathered in Olivia’s office.
Everyone except for you. When you came back after your little moment you just sat at your desk avoiding any and all conversation. You were so immersed in your own thoughts you didn’t notice how much they were all marking you.
The day went on and you finally left, waving distractedly. When you were gone they decide to have their little group meeting. “Come on, you’re telling me nothing weird has happened when you’ve been around her. Lights flickering, items moving. Windows just bursts open out of nowhere whenever she gets upset. “ Carisi was hoping all the evidence he laid out would be enough, but they still didn’t look convinced.
“Maybe we should just ask her, the worst that could happen is that she thinks we’re all off our rocks. “ Amanda suggested. “You believe this?” Olivia asked, a bit stunned. She would have thought Amanda would have questioned it too. “I think Carisi might be onto something. “ The blond leaned forward in the chair.
“I never said anything about this before because I thought it was just Jesse’s imagination, but the last time (Y/N) visited, Jesse told me she knew magic.” Fin rolled his eyes. “ I know it sounds crazy but Jesse insisted that she was moving the blocks without touching them.” Olivia looked down, and Amanda noticed. “What is it Liv?”
“It’s nothing it’s just, Noah said the same thing. I always tell him to be honest, and swore to me that (Y/N) knew how to juggle without her hands, he said she told him to keep it a secret.”
Fin raised an eyebrow. “Come on, you can’t be serious. So she knows a few magic tricks so what. “
“You really don’t think that-” Carisi didn’t have a chance to even finish his theory.
“Boss I’m sorry I forgot to-” you froze, entering the room in a hurry. Because of your rush you didn’t even think to knock. You were a bit surprised at everyone that was there. You stepped in closing the door, and everyone present straightened. Fin walked over to you with a laugh.
“Just the person we were looking for, come on (Y/N), Carisi has something he’d like to get off his chest. “
You could sense a slight unease in the room. Everyone looked a bit guarded except for Fin.You dropped the files in your hand, the reason you’d rushed in. When they were planted on the desk you swallowed. Whatever you did it must have been serious if they all were talking about it.
“Did.. Did I do something wrong?” Even though there were some bad days at SVU, you wouldn’t change it for the world. You loved your job, the thought of all the people you helped was the only thing driving you. If you couldn’t do that you would be lost.
Olivia could see the confliction in your eyes. She stood up moving over and pulling you into a hug. “No, it's nothing like that trust me.” you returned the hug hesitantly, relieved that you hadn’t done anything to ruin your career. When you pulled back she smiled at you.
“Then what is it?” She cleared her throat stepping back, suddenly she looked a bit lost on what to say. You turned to gauge the rest of their reactions. There was something unsaid, yet they all seemed in on it. Nick's eyes were the last ones you focused on and when he looked back, that’s when you knew. You stumbled back in shock.
“Y-You know!” you felt like the air was closing in on you. Nick stepped forward to calm you down.
“(Y/N) listen we don’t care if you’re-”
“NO!” you yelled. A bright gold light encased your irises, and Nick froze. Amanda gasped at the sight. Fin was just staring, the smile dropping from his face. You closed your eyes, trying to rid your mind of the looks they wore. You didn’t give them a chance to explain, you ran out the door before anyone could say anything else.
When you were gone Carisi spoke. “That was...intense..” for lack of better words, it was.
Now all they needed to do was convince you that you were no different from the woman they knew for the last couple months.
From the hurt they saw in your usually gentle orbs they could tell. You were used to being treated like a monster because of something you had no control over.
