Sonikku and Steel Sonikku, from Sonikku Pastiche Curse and Curse!Metal, the canonical husbands, love them!! The OG Sonic & Metal Ok so listen- Rewrite’s “Shadow” is a fusion of Shadow and Metal conceptually, and the way he exists feels like it would lean more like Metal so he deserves to be here. This Sonic and Furnace are from an AU me and my friend made!!! I don’t ship these two in base canon. I was struggling for more ideas and figured I’d include them since they were in day 5’s art.

for metonic week day 1: competition

It's sort of funny how Metal just keeps coming back for these races, no matter how often he loses. In a way, that tenacity might be the aspect of his programming that's most like Sonic. Neither one of them is likely to give up easily—and neither one of them likes to lose.

That's why Sonic always gives it his all, even if he knows he'd still win if he slacked off a little. If Metal happens to get lucky while he's taking it easy, he very well might lose. Moreover, he knows Metal wouldn't be satisfied with a hollow victory. That's just another way in which they're the same.

Besides that, these midnight races are pretty fun. They feel secret, illicit—and they probably are, since Eggman isn't the type of guy to let his lackeys out to have fun without an ulterior motive. Although, how fun these meetups are for Metal is debatable; after all, he never wins.

"Come on, slowpoke!" Sonic yells the words over his shoulder, trusting the wind whipping around him to carry them back to Metal. "Keep up! At this pace you're just gonna lose again."

He doesn't look behind him to see if Metal actually speeds up. His attention is focused on racing through the city streets, the skyscrapers blurring in the corner of his vision into one long smear of steel and glass, shot through with the occasional streak of yellow where an apartment has its lights on. He runs, turns a corner so fast he has to touch down on the ground with his hand to stay upright, so fast the wind steals the delighted whoop he lets out from his mouth before he can even hear it. He runs and runs and doesn't see Metal even once until after he screeches to a stop at the top of the skyscraper they use as their goalpost.

Metal appears beside him not even half a second later, his arrival accompanied by the unpleasant sound of metal grinding against steel as he uses the frame of the building to come to a halt.

"You were closer than I though. But—" Sonic laughs, breathless and delighted. "I still win."

He looks out over the city, the scattered glow of the few businesses and apartments that still have their lights on mirroring the scant few stars visible in spite of the light pollution. They usually take a moment to admire the view after they're done racing. At least, Sonic does; Metal very well could be doing his own thing, but he's usually still where he was standing when they finished by the time Sonic has looked his fill—

Which is why he's not expecting it when Metal wraps a claw around his neck and slams him into the roof.

"Easy," Sonic wheezes, voice straining to get out past the grip Metal has on his throat. "People live here. What are you gonna do if they call the cops because they hear banging on the roof?"

Metal doesn't release him. He lifts his other claw, fingers tensed and aimed down at Sonic's chest like a dagger.

Sonic laughs, though it barely makes a sound. "You won't kill me," he forces out. "Your daddy'd be too upset if you took that particular victory from him."

Metal still doesn't move. He stares down at Sonic with glowing red eyes, continues squeezing his neck even as Sonic starts to go lightheaded from lack of oxygen.

"And…" It's getting harder to talk, now. His voice is so reedy Sonic can barely hear it himself. "You'd miss… doing this… too… much…"

A few seconds pass while Sonic struggles to breathe. His vision begins to darken at the corners and he's starting to think, finally, that he needs to fight back—when Metal abruptly releases him. Sonic sits up immediately, gasping for air in between coughs as he desperately tries to take in some oxygen.

When he finally gets his breath back, he's expecting Metal to be gone—but he's still there, watching him from a corner of the roof.

Sonic trails his fingers lightly over the skin of his neck, feeling the way it's already starting to bruise and swell. Metal doesn't react, just continues standing where he is, so Sonic grins at him. "See you next week, Metal." He winks. "Try not to be such a sore loser, next time."
