Episode 9 - Last Twilight

I just loved the story telling of Mhok being the one to emotionally breakdown when Day loses his vision.

We’ve seen Day getting overwhelmed multiple times and being able to lean on Mhok. It’s Mhoks job to be calm when something like that happens as his caretaker. But in this moment Mhok allows himself to be funrable and breakdown. Because someone he loves is losing his vision. It’s a moment he let’s his caretaker role go and is allowing his feelings to be felt.

Most people assume (also with On and Pla) that the visually impaired person is the one being taken care of in the relationship. But relationships go both ways, Mhok finds his support here in Day.

Day has had more time to come to terms of losing his vision completely. Mhok just learned that this might happen and just got to know the person this is happening to, who he loves.

It’s an important moment of Mhok stepping out of the job as caretaker and into a more deeper relationship with Day, as a couple.

“Would you have lied to me if I wasn’t blind” HERE’S THE THING. It’s possible he wouldn’t have, but not for the reason Day thinks when asking this [honestly kinda rigged] question. I feel like Mhork probably lied bc he knew Day might feel pitied [what happened anyway] or like he’s holding Mhork back—EVEN THOUGH the choice didn’t come from a place of pity but from personal trauma that goes farther back than Day. And I think Mhork would have put loved ones before work regardless of the individual at this point in time—there’s just different little concerns that come with each person, like with Day: the worry of “maybe he’ll get hit by a car” which—you know—has literally almost happened before. (Also let’s be real we’re talking about Day, who while capable, sometimes makes choices like Taking His Eyes Off The Road While Driving A Moving Vehicle. Or angrily getting out of a vehicle right into a busy road while unable to see.) Yeah, maybe Mhork should’ve been more straight up and had a real conversation but what I find interesting is how no one in the series (at least not Day) seems to understand the extent to which Mhork will always try to put other people before himself. It’s clear that by lying he was trying to keep Day from feeling bad (backfire— also potentially evidence that Mhork still would have lied even if Day was sighted? I think even Mhork is uncertain of this hypothetical though) which…. Isn’t pity, but Mhork’s own fear of ever hurting someone he loves. (Combined with his caretaker personality which the characters also typically overlook.) Day is often veryyy focused inward (again, going all the way back to the car crash where he’s more concerned about his car’s interior than his brother or the ROAD. Feel like he’s overdue some more character growth in this regard) and?? I just think it’s wack that he has missed this central aspect of Mhork. Like boy, while you’re the loved one in question at this point in time, it really isn’t “about” you…

Anyway i need Day to realize some things. If we get more emphasis on Mhork apologizing for lying and less on Day apologizing for reacting how he did and literally ignoring the info about Rung I’m gonna be so *agggghj*
