Bonafide: JadeKamin and their undefined status
Hello. It's 2026. And Moonchild is coming at you all with the non-first post of the year. I say this because I want my post about WinTeam (currently being written) to be my first post but, because JadeKamin decided to create residence in my brain and refused to leave me alone, I am being forced to get this out of the way so I can move on. Damn they gays ruining my year a week in.
Anyways, this is going to be a shorter post, simply to explain how a simple background music, in two seemingly unrelated scenes, managed to explain so much of what Kamin (the main focus of my mental ramblings, or the most part of them) was actually feeling, what went over Jade's head with him busy being our resident rizz soldier and how this is paving the way for how their relationship (in the series, I didn't read the novel) is going to be from now on.
This post won't have to many screenshots (as my usual posts have) mainly because it began as a Twitter thread (I'm still NOT calling that hellsite "X") and I'm just expanding my thoughts in here, because I have more advantages here than on there. I will visually showcase only what's necessary to make my point across, and leave the rest to you guys to obsess over. Got it? Great. So, let's get this party started.
The scenes I will be talking about, where the song that prompted this all over rambling was played, the ones making me go crazy, are, as follows: the scene where Jade gave Kamin the residential lease agreement, and the scene where Jade asked Kamin if they could be more than coworkers. The background music in question is "Bonified" by I'MIN (hence why the post was titled the way it was) and it talks about someone wanting the other person to be more than what they are.
To see if we are starting with the same foot, we need to first understand exactly what the word "bonafide" means. Bonified is latin for "in good faith", but nowadays the meaning is simplified to "authentic", "genuine", "real". Coincidence or not, that music as the background in those specific scenes created the perfect set up for us to see what was happening for what it really was: the change of their relationship.
In the first scene, the lease agreement was given to Kamin and you can see how intrigued he was by seeing the effort Jade put on creating that, just to have him living in his house, something confirmed by Jade himself, who said that working on that document all night was nothing, if the end result was Kamin living with him.
Kamin, a very smart man, someone who noticed the effort Jade was making to convince him since he went to take him from that hotel, makes a question that, at a first glance, could be an attempted at a joke ("are you lacking some warmth?") but it was more than that. He knew Jade was interested in him (I mean, Jade is not exactly being subtil about it) and was evaluating Jade's reaction to his words, and Jade gave exactly what he was expecting: if his answer to that was yes, would Kamin be the one responsible to give it to him?
Even if Kamin was the one who prompted those words, he didn't even dignified those words with a proper answer, preferring to change the subject to a more neutral space, their work. As a workaholic, Kamin feels like the place he has more control over his life is when he in in his "Inspector" persona, someone with authority, someone who can distance himself from other people but still be close enough to them to not look like a people aversive human being. Jade, because he knows the man he's trying to woo, tried to continue his flirting, saying that Kamin has the power to make Jade be the best version of himself (I'll talk about this at the end of the post. Put this on hold), and just gives Kamin his pen, so he can sign the contract.
(I need you guys to understand that, in any moment, Jade entertained the idea of Kamin refusing to sign the contract. Even if he hadn't said that Kamin was barely staying on his hotel room, he was certain Kamin was going to stay with him - and Jay - in their house)
On Kamin's side, he also never gave the impression of denying staying on Jade's house. Yes, he "ignored" all attempts at flirting coming from Jade, but never once made it seem like he was going to deny (this explaining Jade's confidence regarding that) and the only complain he made was about the "condition" Jade made in regards to not talking about work at home, meaning all the other conditions were fine to him (here, again, we see Kamin using work to create, or attempt to create, some distance between them).
And because he was already fine with everything, satisfied with the explanation Jade gave about that rule, he made Jade wait for his signature simply because he wanted to watch Jade squirm and suffer waiting for him, just pure evil vibes, for the love of the game; but, deep down, Kamin was also gauging Jade's reaction to what he was doing to him, studying Jade, reading him.
(Don't get me started on the idea that I have about Jade loving Kamin's authoritative side, because he always smiles when Kamin put someone in their place. Nope. Don't even)
The second scene is the breakfast scene, where Jade, our resident rizz soldier, decided to just put his metaphorical dick on the table and outright ask Kamin if their relationship could go beyond just coworkers. Kamin, another professional ragebaiter, decided to just rile Jade up by going around the question and give two options, options that he knew were not the ones Jade was going for (usually, when you make that type of question, you mean if there is a chance for something romantic to happen between you and the other party. Usually, not always. Most of the times). I mean, it was no coincidence Kamin talked about them being friends with benefits (an only sexual relationship) and a situationship (a "more than friends, less that lovers" state) until Jade outright asked if Kamin could, one day, have feelings for him. Again, all Kamin did was ragebait Jade to read his intentions and see how far Jade was really interested in him.
Both options Kamin provided also say a lot about how he sees his relationship with Jade: he's not opposed to have a physical relationship with Jade (meaning, he finds Jade physically attractive) and it's not opposed either in having a deeper relationship with Jade, even if that couldn't be properly classified as them being a couple. Jade wasn't aware, but the question he made was everything Kamin needed to start giving him a chance at whatever they had goin on.
Kamin's a professional ragebaiter. Just look at this face and tell me he wasn't planning making Jade sweat after that question. He was in for the love of the game, just pure vibes.
(Also, look how Jade perked up when Kamin said "If I had to like you" but immediately deflated and got offended after Kamin completed with "I'd rather like a dog". I'm telling you guys, Kamin is just ragebaiting Jade for shits and giggles)
No matter what, the usage of that song as a background music was so on point that I refuse to believe it wasn't intentional. Because, those scenes without that music would have a totally different vibe (I mean, they gain more impact after you search for the song and read the lyrics, but I digress) that the one intended:
Girl, you got me waking up confused
Every moment tastes like summer
Sunburnt sugar kisses left behind
And I don't wanna fall in love
So can we just be bonafide?"
And this leads us to the next thing I want to talk about, the one I told you guys to out on hold...
Find You: Laying bare all the feelings
I had all the intentions to ignore their first kiss because I don't need another scene stuck in my head for the foreseeable future, but I went to look for the background music (because that always goes well) and found that it was "Find You" by King Sis. Went to search the lyrics and, well...things got nasty.
First, I wanna talk about how that song only started playing after Kamin grabbed Jade's hand, asking if a Captain like Jade had never dressed his own wounds. Up until that point, the scene was completely voided of any background music, and the second their skins touched, it started.
Both of them were skittish around each other, with Jade touching Kamin only the necessary, and avoiding looking at Kamin in the eyes for too long (understandable, I wouldn't know where to look with those pecs in front of my face like that. I get you, Jade), and Kamin still observing Jade's reactions to the situation.
Kamin's eyes were so soft watching Jade take care of him, listening to Jade saying that he was the first Jade had ever treated, and gotten very worked out over what ended up to be a small cut (he was ready to go after the guys that ambushed Kamin, and only Kamin managed to calm him down).
For a slip second, he even leaned a bit forward and looked at Jade's lips, while Jade was busy looking at Kamin's chest (again, understandable). When Jade kissed Kamin and Kamin interrupted it, he was still caressing Jade's hand, only stopping when he initiated the kiss this time.
That entire scene was a Masterclass on how to communicate feelings using only facial expressions and body language. Because the entire time they are in that room, both of them are kinda tense, and the playful banter they usually have is nowhere to be see, leaving in its place two people who have too many feelings and zero time to properly process them. Jade doesn't know where to look, speaks in short sentences and a serious tone, Kamin keeps looking intensely at Jade, like he's trying to understand something. Most of the message of this scene was transmitted using those methods, and both Joong and Dunk managed to create a very good moment, showing how, despite both of them being beings surrounded by violence, their feelings wouldn't exactly be externalized with so much intensity.
The delicacy may have been because Kamin was hurt, sure, but Jade had always been soft around Kamin, and Kamin noticed that. Jade rarely raises his voice at him (at least, until now), touches him with softness, and only turns violent when Kamin is in danger. So, I don't really think their first kiss could've been different than the one we got, Kamin being hurt or not. But I'm digressing.
The song, "Find You", talks about someone (I'm using neutral terms to explain how I think the song resonates with the situation but it is sang in a woman's POV) who promised to the object of their affection that the moment they find them, they'll love them the way they know they should be loved, by having the best version of them by their side, and also love themselves the way they should. It's basically a love letter, and it encapsulates perfectly both of their feelings, Jade and Kamin:
"You’ll be the only me I ever knew
Forget the counterfeits I outgrew
Now and forever I’ll be true
I’ll love you like you know
I'm gonna love me like I should of

I promised this post would be short and quick but when has a bisexual person be truthful about something, am I right? And I don't even know if I made any sense but, who cares. Anyways, I just wanted to take all of this out of my head (do you guys understand what I go through when my brain decided to fixate on something and don't give me a timeout to simply live my life? It's hell in my head) and praise JoongDunk for the amazing work they did on this episode (and the previous ones), because they keep showing to people their acting evolution, and keeping us waiting for more. And considering the preview of next week's episode, I feel like another post will be in order. But until then, keep calm and continue to live life the way it should be lived: suffering for fictional queer characters.
