💌 Notes from November

In continuation of my monthly zine series, I created a small collection of poems and reflections on the ebb and flow of life. Bassist

I got it bad for the big boom and the bass

The way his hands go up and down those strings

His hair is shaggy and his fingertips are cut

The concentration on his stern face is palpable

He’s stiff and stuff as he plays those stinging notes

Whilst the singer sings his heart out

Yet it’s the bassist to the side I fixate on

Until the end of the show

And then I’m too scared to make my move

Just another face in the crowd

(ironically, one in a million, girl, he says)

My anxiety is a heap of laundry on the floor still trying to dry.

It just stacks and stacks until it

all

tumbles

down.

I keep on seeing the way you looked at me

Like you knew more than you could

More than you probably ever will

I don’t seem to know how to time anything
