Eva peron and Che Guevara. “Moral” enemies, but even they, love. Eva loves... herself, and others, and Che loves.... justice, and the people. But their love surpasses all opposition, at least in this story... if only it was real... well, it is. Patti lupone and mandy patinkin. They hold a very special title, that only a few in the industry have, and that is this: I’m not really a musical theater lover (nothing personal). But this is my all time favorite show. And these 2, to me, are my inspirations. Truly. The intensity of their performances, even on the cd, cannot be matched. They are fire!
Patti lupone is a gorgeous italian woman, voice like silk, and a fierceness only matched by a tiger in heat.
Mandy patinkin’s voice is like velvet, smooth and soothing. But his belt (a vocal term for the chest voice. His actual belt? none of my business) can smack you in the ass and call you sally Jessie Raphael.
Both are fierce. Both, care. Both outspoken Hollywood superstars. Both love as real as all get out. Being in a musical ain’t easy. I was an actor/singer for 20 years, and 8 shows a week is rough. And singing this Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, near impossible, but they made it look effortless. Their love, is what they gave every performance.
I never got to see the show, or be in it, (although I’m the self proclaimed best “on the treadmill” singer of evita there is here in my house.) I was younger at the time that they performed it on broadway, and I lived in the Windy City, not the big Apple. But I’ll tell you what’s new Buenos Aires... nuthin! They’re fantastic! Always have been, and keep gettin better all the time. Eva and Che? Well... they’ll always have Argentina. But these two will always have one another as wonderful, life-long friends, and the memories that they shared together spreading love to “the people” with their gifts. ❤️💪🎶
