Hi Elliot! So I actually have questions about fanfic/fan characters along with an established franchise. I'm writing a Transformers fanfiction that focuses heavily (among other topics) on minicons- basically smaller robots (like 3-4 feet tall) in comparison to the 10+ foot on average robots. I have a few questions/would like your input on a few things related:

1.) I am considering adaptions for my main character's spaceship, given that it's designed for a pilot and occupant double his actual size. I'm already thinking about including ladders/steps that he and his spouse have added to make areas accessible, but I'm curious what if any other augmentations you think would make sense!

2.) Technology exists in this setting that gives robots holographic human disguises (referred to as a holomatter form). I am strongly considering giving MC's holomatter form achondroplasia, because I don't really see a lot of holomatter forms with disabilities or dwarfism as a disabled person. This is making me also curious in general about your thoughts on non-human little people in a setting where EVERYONE is nonhuman (which leads into point 3)- 3.) Bluntly, a lot of Transformers media has minicon oppression and dehumanization as a plot point- it depends on the continuity, but common threads typically include larger robots ignoring their personhood/autonomy/not viewing them as Actual People because of their size and them usually communicating in a different way (honestly the allegory kinda reads as both disability oppression and anti-autistic rhetoric in different ways to me). I have already started reading up on the history of freak shows and little people per your suggestion in other posts but I would very much appreciate any other topics to keep in mind when writing what is essentially an alien species' equivalent to little people!

Hello! Yes, I am familiar with Transformers!! In fact, I believe I've discussed minicons re:dwarfism with a friend of mine who's special interest is the series! I think making them Little people in your fan fiction is a marvellous idea ^^

Adaptations sound great! Since you have so much freedom in terms of technology, I could see there being more than just stools and ladders - escalators, rising platforms, things that launch or pull your characters throughout the ship, and more! And maybe simple things like mirrors to change the angle of screens or windows?

I would love to see you follow through with the human forms as Little people - Achondroplasia is a common one, but there are sooo many types of dwarfism.

I agree! The minicons are deeply belittled and dehumanized - they follow the common theme of if something is small it is less than, weak, adorable, and not to be taken seriously. The best way to combat that is through the opinion of the other characters and, by extension, the reader. Are the other characters proven wrong? How does your audience see the minicons? How do the minicons see themselves? Etc. In terms of Little people as an alien race, I feel that this scenerio is unique in that you have the human forms being real little people, and the robots being such a contrast that you're not falling into the dangerous place of making Little people into fantasy creatures, goblins, gnomes, etc. In fact, having their "human form" be disabled could be seen as deeply humanizing to some readers - it normalizes the disabled body as "baseline".

Overall I am very happy about this concept! I would love to read it!!
