With salsa performances and work conferences finished for the summer, I found myself doodling this weekend. I’m pretty certain I don’t know how to draw anymore (it’s been months) but at this point i don’t care because I missed filling out character sheets.
I’ve been playing a couple of different games on my phone during my commute and one of the new ones that I was introduced to was Fallen Hero: Rebirth. So here’s my version of Sidestep - Alma de la Luna.
So it would be a complete lie to say that I haven't worked on ANY art these last couple of months. I create a lot more when I'm trapped indoors due to blizzards which was a good opportunity to try and learn how to paint - I'm still learning. This has continued into the summer as a hobby that doesn't require the absolute inability to go outside due to the weather - Yay! These are Works In Progress for now. The first, is a two canvas mermaid painting that I'm working on as a gift to my 8 year old cousin who loves mermaids and has a mid-september birthday. The second is done for fun because queer WoC loving each other is something I need to paint/ draw more of and gives me life.
I’m finished with this and I’m very happy about how it turned out because I’ve wanted to draw the Hart family for a long time. Of course, Michelle has her own extended family with a son (she’s widowed), but she typically rides pretty solo back in California.
I’m going to erase the other WIP posts I have on this but thank you all for the kind comments throughout my time working on this!

More about the Hart Family. Under Read More just in case I write a lot.
The Hart family was primarily created for the Dulcedomum universe (minus Anastasia who’s origins started off as a zombie baker).
Some of the major “themes” (I don’t think that most of these are traditional “themes” but I can’t figure out the correct word just yet) with the family includes:
- Legacy: The continuance of legacy through becoming wizards or guardians. In the future, Anastasia and Thomas forming a pact with a guardian (with who, I don’t know) also will contribute to legacy.
-Mortality; Along with Clay’s near death experience, Michelle’s deliberate choice not to make a pact with a spirit or guardian, which means that her parents and siblings will outlive her.
- Family: They are a very tight-knit group, but they also adopt their spirits and patrons into their family. I think everyone has their own sort of differing relationships with spirits and patrons whether it’s as close as family to a partnership (sort of like a business partnership).
In Anastasia’s case, sometimes this view might cause her to infantalize Aileen - how does this relationship grow as they continue their training? It grows. Maybe someday I’ll draw their discussion about it.
-Survival: Realized through Clay’s near death experience, but also through Anastasia’s training and learning how to work with Aileen.
I’ve had such a fun time thinking about the Harts and playing with them in the Dulcedomum universe. ... I guess that’s all I have to write.
I found this old doodle of Nadeya and her son Ramzi. I redrew the lines, but I did want to add that I’m pretty sure that I used the ref - I just can’t find it. I’m still learning what brushes I like to color and to draw with in Photoshop 8′D;;; it’s definitely a learning process, I think.
This is a much happier version of this (http://mizzmizzysart.tumblr.com/post/110571402224)
Introducing Nadeya.
Nadeya’s a character I’ve had since EGG, but she was also revamped for Papaya Syndicate where she joined as an assassin looking for her son. Fun fact: Had Papaya Syndicate lasted so that those with missing loved ones were permitted to find them, Nadeya would’ve been killed off shortly after finding Ramzi - because that’s just the kind of owner I am.
Major themes when it comes to her is motherhood, single motherhood (sometimes forced through the death of Eitan), women in traditionally male-dominated occupations (police officer), and protector/ teacher (whether it through training others in Krav Maga or protecting civilians). This is something that withstands in most universes I’ve thought of placing her in. She’s also one of my only characters who is a parent whenever she enters into a new universe. Everyone else gets children through pairings with other people’s characters or my own plotting.
I think this image speaks specifically to Dulce!Nadeya, who is an Earth guardian who has to take a “maternity leave” from her duties after finding out she’s pregnant. Her wizard (and husband) is killed on a mission. It takes many years to a) forgive herself; b) figure out how to single parent (thankfully Dulce is pretty much the prime example of the “it takes a village to raise a child” saying); c) even think of finding another wizard to pact with, which is majorly important in her case because she’s gone back to aging.
Things that I’ve explored between Nadeya and Ramzi is that Nadeya has it in her mind that she’d wait until Ramzi’s older so that he can become a wizard and they (hopefully) will have a pact. As Ramzi gets old enough to realize that that’s the type of future his mother is hoping for, he struggles to find a way to tell her that he wouldn’t want a pact and for her to move on.
As for other universes, I think Nadeya would make a killer Vuvalini, Jaegar pilot, and Auror.
Agreeing to make couple OCs with someone but neither of you are allowed to show your OCs to each other until they are ready and now those two are going to get together and they must work it out no matter what
thing with my girl PAULLLAAA!
This one's a little different than the others. We talked about using old characters for this thing and so I was compelled to use my previous airbender turned water bender ... Anjo.
Anjo's family lives in the Earth Kingdom where his father, a Water Tribe Warrior, met his mother. His parents run a transport/ delivery business in an Earth Kingdom city (in the Korra-verse it would be Republic City). It's rather successful with his earth bender brother being able to take care of much of the land transportation and Anjo's water bending aiding with oversea transportation. He's also relatively strong without his bending anyway and he's also pretty tall standing at 6' 5". I think he's actually one of my tallest guys if not THE tallest.
He has a bit of a gambling problem and while he generally can back up his bets, sometimes he learns to regret winning against the wrong person. This has resulted in the loss of sight in his left eye as well as a couple of other nicks. He finds it difficult to back out of a challenge.
When gangs begin interfering in the city, he gets caught up into one to protect his family. I imagine he handles a lot of the trafficking with the gangs as he's able to use his identity as someone who works in transporting.
Not sure what else to write down about him here... so I'm leaving it at that! 8)
