Drawing a random MK character every day until i finish the series roster - Day 7! KAI!!!
Okay so full complete transparency- i’ve been a fan of the MK series since i was about 7/8 years old and up until i started doing this series i had ZERO idea who Kai was 😭😭😭
I knew of his name, and after seeing his original design i do remember seeing him mentioned once or twice in a few YT videos, but i literally had completely forgotten Kai existed- definitely didnt help that his gameplay was so similar to Liu Kang, making him that much more of a forgettable figure in the history of the games.
Anyways, despite my frustrations with drawing his armor, i think he turned out fairly cute and am happy with the result!!
See yall again tomorrow for day 8!
Day 2 of Kombatmas: Fire
Out of The many fire users in MK, I decided to give Kai some love.
Excerpts from Calamity Approaches:
"Adversaries..." Harumi mused, her fingers brushing over the neatly packed snacks as if sensing the weight of such a responsibility on young shoulders. "It must be quite the burden, being the Chosen One."
"Perhaps," Kuai Liang agreed, watching as Harumi added the finishing touch—a small pack of herbal tea. "But something tells me he carries it well. Now, let's hope our week with the Chosen One is as smoothly packed as our luggage."
"Smoothly packed with a side of adventure, perhaps," Harumi replied with a wink, as they finished their preparations for the journey ahead. "But just between us, I'm secretly hoping to witness some of that kitten-like focus you mentioned."
Kuai Liang laughed, a deep genuine sound that filled the room. "Something tells me you won't be disappointed."
Harumi's nimble fingers then folded a silken robe with practised ease, tucking it into the open suitcase that lay on the tatami mat floor. Beside her, Kuai Liang was faring less gracefully, his broad hands fumbling with a pair of socks that somehow defied every attempt at neatness.

Takeda proposes a solution on how to fix the rifts... Lore from across the dimensions is unlocked and a potential hero is revealed.
(Johnny also learns how annoying his counterparts (and himself) can be, but then again, Sonya and Jax have been telling him that for years so he really shouldn't be that surprised 😅)

Mirror Frost/TR Frost Bio
Thousands of years ago, back when the Edenian Regime had recently started to try to take over Outworld, the Cryomancer people were one of their targets due to their ruler’s absolute refusal to collaborate with the Edenians or their allies. This, alongside the already present conflicts of their realm, caused many Cryomancer to flee Outworld in search of a better life. The ancestors of Bi-Han, Kuai and Lisa Liang were among the ones who arrived in Earthrealm, but they weren’t the only ones, as Frost’s existence shows.
Frost was born in a quiet American town. No one in her family was aware of their Cryomancer heritage, which made it impossible to decipher what was happening when Frost started showing signs of it back when she was still a little child. The innate Cryomancy which came with her heritage was especially strong in her for some reason, and started manifesting subconsciously one day. She felt an unexplainable cold through her body which didn’t cease no matter what her parents tried to do. In the end, they decided to take her urgently to the hospital, and, unfortunately, at that point all it took was getting in contact with her to freeze and then get shattered into pieces…
The kid Frost didn’t even know how to process that traumatic experience. She started to panic, causing her powers to get out of control even more, freezing her parents’ entire house and calling the neighbours’ attention. Fearful that she could harm more people when they started coming close, Frost ran away from her house, starting a life in the streets.
Frost needed to survive by herself for some time, trying her best to hold back her powers and not cause another catastrophe. In another world, she would have lived in that horrible situation until her late teenage years. In this one, someone offered her a hand much sooner, when she was still a scared child.
Kuai Liang had already been the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei for some time, and the news of the incident in Frost’s house had reached his ears. Interested in discovering more about people like him and, despite everything he had done, still wishing to help if he could, Kuai searched for Cryomancer who had caused it in the nearby areas, and he eventually managed to find her with the Lin Kuei resources.
Although initially she tried to run away from him like she did for everyone, Frost stopped when Kuai Liang showed her he was not in danger. He was like her, he had her same abilities and could control them. He offered her a home in the Lin Kuei and to teach her how to control her powers too. Still untrusting but having nowhere to go and seeing a chance to control those abilities which had caused her so much pain, Frost accepted.
After Kuai took her in, Frost found a place to stay in the Lin Kuei clan, and was also mentored by Kuai Liang, who she would eventually start calling ‘Sifu’, in the ways of Cryomancy. Kuai Liang also decided to spend time with her and help her open herself to others, something he figured would be difficult for her after having isolated herself from everyone while living in the streets. It was a slow process for sure, but it worked, especially after she felt confident enough, due to controlling her Cryomancy thanks to her Sifu’s teachings. She started to feel welcomed among the Lin Kuei, finally feeling it was really a new home. Kuai was really glad for it.
It was undeniable that a bond had formed between Kuai Liang and Frost, even Kuai could feel she was like a daughter to him… which was why he repeated the same education he had been given by teaching her about the Lin Kuei’s cause to bring ‘peace’ to Earthrealm and how they had to fight for it unquestionably. Frost herself had no reason to question it while she was being taught. Fighting for a cause alongside her new family was ideal in her eyes.
When she turned old enough, Frost became quite a powerful Lin Kuei warrior, especially thanks to now mastering Cryomancy. Many Lin Kuei and other Edenian Regime allies consider her an impressive combatant and valuable ally. She has found herself comfortable collaborating with some allies outside the Lin Kuei clan in some missions, despite knowing by Sifu that they are just temporary convenient allies. This is the case especially the Golden Dragon youth and their usual collaborators.
While Satoshi Hasashi and Takeda Takahashi are untrustful of her (and every other Lin Kuei for that matter), they remain professional and just tolerate her presence while she remains helpful. The rest (namely Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Kung Jin and Kai), while still wary, are more friendly towards her, which she appreciates. Cassie Cage in particular has grown quite fond of her, even if initially it was just because the clashing of their personalities made it amusing to mess with Frost from time to time. Frost has actually returned her said fondness, if only for the chance to have friends of her age outside of the Lin Kuei while it lasts. She has even helped her deal with her doubts relating to how she will eventually have to betray the trust her friends Kira and Kobra have in her once she has to reveal herself as a Golden Dragon… which, when she thinks about it, it’s similar to what will happen between them, since the Golden Dragon fully supports the Edenian Regime unlike the Lin Kuei…
Even if for now more silent about it, doubts have raised in Frost just as much as they have in Cassie. Perhaps a cause which leads to so much betrayal isn’t actually worth it… but abandoning it would be betraying her new family… She will definitely have much to think about and important decisions to take in the future.
