Monstera deliciosa “Swiss cheese plant” So-called because of the gaps in its leaves (reminiscent of its namesake's cheese), also fruit salad plant. It can be an ideal indoor large leaf plant. Also goes mad outside in our area. Native to tropical forests of southern Mexico, south to Panama. Deliciosa is a reference to its taste. Banana fruit salad except the unripe fruit has “needle-like structures of calcium oxalate,” these needle-like crystalline structures can cause irritation of the mouth. So it has to be RIPE before you eat it. I tried once and all I got was the needles. 😖 I finally have a ripe one and it’s quite delicious. I literally had to take out an installment loan ($400 plus tax & overnight shipping) for this #veriagated #HalfMoon #Monsteria (#monsteraalbovariegata) Cutting. It was the the most healthy looking with two leaves and a new unfolding leaf. Found this specimen on #Etsy. I will not normally post plant images on @Talking_Tree but I’m designating my second feed at @NateArizona for most #gardening & #growing posts of cactus plants and #Arioids. Once this plant grows I’ll offer my own cuttings to help spread and propagate this cool plant. It took about 8 months to pull the trigger! .
