I always post spoiler-free reviews so feel free to check it out and add this one to your preorder list— it was fantastic! . . My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5|5 stars . What I Enjoyed; . •I fell in love instantly with the characters in this story– though flawed and vulnerable, they are able to show their strengths when it most matters. •The magic system is extremely detailed and well written. There are four different ‘graces’ that a person can have: the grace of heart that boosts speed and agility, the grace of blood that harms or heals, the grace of mind that creates objects imbued with unique properties, and the grace of sight that can be used for divination and scrying. •The political turmoil roiling between those with grace and those without is rife with struggles– a war is brewing on the very future horizon and it is up to our characters to stop the destruction coming, using the cryptic words of a long hidden prophecy. • The ultimate villain– the Hierophant and his Witnesses, hell-bent on eradicating magic from their world by any means necessary. A religious zealot of the worst kind preaching his opinions as gospel and turning ordinary citizens into killers. I am always a sucker for a well-written villain! . What I didn’t Like: . • the POV was constantly changing and it made the beginning a bit confusing. I was able to adapt and understand fairly quickly, but it made the first few chapters tough to get through. • It wasn’t long enough. And that ending 😱😭 Lord help me until the second book comes out because that ending was brutal and I am a mess. . . All in all, I loved how the different characters’ stories intertwined and came together to form the final prophecy. It was wonderfully written and well thought out! Magic, political unrest, a prince in hiding, mythology, and a final prophecy all woven together to create this fabulous story.
