[New Song Of The Week] Moon Tapes - Surf Song
America first, The Netherlands second, right? Time for some new promising Dutch band we’d say. The name you should remember, especially if you’re into shoegaze, is Moon Tapes from Amsterdam. Surf Song is the opener of their second tape called Dos, which is out tomorrow and give you a decent overview of the road the band has travelled so far since the release of their eponymous EP in 2015. Combining their last three singles with two new tracks, the guys are going back in time a little further. Where they used to focus more on the Madchester scene (listen to killer track Desire for example), they’ve now moved further back into the eighties. Shoegaze echoes through the songs, but The Smiths are never far away and some new wave influences are creeping through the cracks as well. This unique mixture of sounds aspires them to think outside the box and even outside of the Dutch borders. The Line of Best Fit and others abroad are already converted, but for now the EP release will still be in Amsterdam next month to first conquer the hearts of the locals. Enjoy!

The Smiths meets Arctic Monkeys. That’s what I’m using to sell it to you.
Moon Tapes are Dutch, and this song has been in my life since April, and is still in my Top 40. I was intending to go to Paris this January, but it will have to wait.
