*A Valentine's Day card is sitting on the checkout counter at the butcher shop.*

*The Valentine's Day card smells like onions.*

Coming back out from the freezer to the front, he spotted a cartoonish, heart shaped piece of paper next to the register. As he got closer, Carnifex noticed it had writing on it and a drawing of.. him?

Taking up the paper he realized it was the day before another human tradition. He’s been around humans for a while and has recognized they have traditions that usually follow historical themes, he’s not very interested in them.

Especially not Valentine’s Day. Carnifex has never understood why humans celebrate this one.

It’s not unusual he’s has admirers, though, he will admit he is quite charismatic. But an admirer who’s brave enough to gift something to him? Never before has he seen someone do this. It’s almost endearing.

Almost.

Picking up the card, he now notices the fragrant smell of onions? Strange for one of these things, don’t humans usually put on these cards whatever liquid chemicals they use to make themselves “smell better”?

“You are my favorite cockroach,” Carnifex starts to mumble out, “Hah! Cockroach ‘ey? From Obmahhe…”

“Even put yer name on here and everything, you really that brave huh? Well, let’s see how brave you are meeting me face to face.”

Placing the card in his apron pocket, he started to get ready for the night. The flies will soon come gathering to his shop, ready for collecting. In the meanwhile, he’ll think of who this admirer is.

He will scout them out the next day, perhaps they will come back after hours again? Maybe then he will thank them.
