I'm kinda shaken to my core because Matilda's design resembles the design I made for @moonstoneflowers OC Opal.
And it's funny because I made Opal back in 2017.
I made Opal's eyes bigger than Goldie's. I based her hair style on Goldie's in the comics, and also Matilda's (Opal in general was created to be a lot like Matilda character-wise.)
And I gave her the white duck hair like her dad has.
And now Matilda's design has been finally revealed and I am shook how much Opal resembles her. Hair. Hair color. Even the eye shape!!!
It all comes full circle now because Opal was intended to be a lot like Matilda and now she fits into canon even more flawlessly.
Does anyone know what Vergil was up to after DMC1? He was defeated on Mallet Island; it took him about 13-18 years to find Nero. Was he stuck in hell during that time and just fought his way through?
He died of a fever in Brundisium harbor, Italy after traveling from Greece. Shit sorry no that’s the wrong one. Granted I’m way behind on Visions of V and just can’t drum up the interest to catch up lately, but barring something I’m missing there, it’s completely uncharted territory as far as I know. We don’t even know if he was stuck in hell, either — he and Dante would have been ~28 during the Mallet Island incident and when the Nelo Angelo armor exploded/he “disappeared” (Nero would have been about 9-10). The twins are ~44 around the events of DMC5 and Nero is about ~25, so it’s about 15 years we have for Vergil that are unaccounted for.
But yeah. Like. We really don’t even necessarily know if Vergil ended up back in hell — the Nelo armor fragments got scattered when he “explodes” in DMC1 and were recovered by The Order to make the Bianco Angelos you see and fight in DMC4. And Mallet Island was on Earth, too, so he may have not gone back to hell at all in this time gap.
(That kind of makes how in the hell (literally!) The Order retrieved all of the Yamato — or at least enough of it for Nero to be able put it back together again — even more curious to me, but I digress.)
If Vergil himself was somehow back in hell sans Nelo armor, then he could have potentially gotten out when The Order started meddling with all the demonic shit they shouldn’t have and/or when Sanctus just went hog wild toward the halfway mark of DMC4. My guess is that he probably would have had similar opportunities to the ones Dante had to get out post-DMC2 as well.
The only thing we have that’s even remotely concrete about Vergil in that time frame is Nero saying, in Deadly Fortune, that he’d been having a dream of “a man he had never met before”, who had a “‘cold’ glare but with a touch of gentleness/kindness despite it.” That novel’s been pretty much tossed out of canon, but they did keep little parts and details of it — and Nero meeting Vergil in his dreams doesn’t really conflict with anything in the current canon that I can think of off the top of my head. So. Take that as you wish, I suppose lol.
This is also more just me thinking about things way too much, and should only be taken as my two cents on the subject, but: Given how reverent Vergil is about that sword, I honestly wonder if that revive Nero gets via Yamato in DMC4 wasn’t meant for Vergil. I feel like the Yamato can probably recognize the Sparda bloodline — possibly Vergil specifically — but couldn’t differentiate between Vergil and Nero, potentially because of the state it was in. If any of that is even remotely accurate, I wonder if it would have played into why it took Vergil the almost decade and a half to find it/Nero. But again, that’s just me overthinking lol.
Ultimately, I don’t think there’s a real, solid answer out there rn — at least not one that I know of. I’ve always been curious about it, too, especially since he’s in such bad shape when he and Nero meet for the first time. It doesn’t help that the DMC devs also like to play it fast n’ loose with the canon more often than in a lot of other games, so we may never really know lol.
She gave birth alone, Scrooge! Always pushing her away! Duckworth even said, “Is at the door, for the first time ever.”
I will fight an old man. Beat him!!
goldie was always just breaking in she never bothered to hit that doorbell before...you’d think scrooge would’ve taken note that something must be Up for her to do that
oh, scrooge. goldie betraying you isn’t something new but the wounds were still so fresh
So last night @moonstoneflowers and I were lamenting the lack of Dellumbra smut on AO3 (some lovely lil fics on there guys but just no filth) so we wrote our own.
(Pls heed the warnings and don’t click if you don’t want smut)
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
In short, Penny is great and we love her and she deserved some lovin’ so Della gave her some.
Yo what if Goldie called Scrooge McDreamy or something
Ok at first i was like what and i didnt know what to say lol but @moonstoneflowers and @neopuff came with this idea and dialogue and i thought it was accurate, so credits to them for the idea too hjklñ
Greek gods make their kids through bizarre methods. I'm also a supporter of Selene doing Della a solid by being the boys' other parent. Granted, I doubt she explained her blessing completely to Della when she gave it to her, but everything worked out. Sorta.
Selene: You know that ray of moonlight that hit you during that eclipse last week?
So... It’s been a long time, no? First of all I wish to apologize to @makanshoku and @moonstoneflowers for taking so long to deliver this... 2 months late is no forgiving and I probably ruined the surprise for Secret santa but... yeah... Sorry
for other followers, This is the Secret Santa gift for @moonstoneflowers, who asked for something centered on Moon, took longer than I wished since my mental health isn’t well lately as some of you know and I apologize. I kept re-writing because everytime I was to finish I read again and felt I did a poor job for the sake of due date and... Well, Moonie deserves more than a half-ass job done for some due date, so I’m delivering overloaded late, but I think this version it’s to most fine of the other 7 I did.
Also since this is focused on Moon, so there’s no ship mentions, so feel free to imagine any ship in there (aside Moon/River of course)
Also, I didn’t take much note of grammar since my mind can’t seem to focus, and now with two of my beta-readers out the country... I need new ones... Sigh.
This being said, Here goes the fic, my eternal regret for the lateness and my disappearance into the void of my own existence.
~Light for the Moon
Moon stood in front of the big painting in the hall with a longing glance at the face glancing back at her. Hugging herself she smiled bittersweetly, she didn’t lie about letting go, but didn’t mean she wasn’t hurting. In truth, part of her would always be hurting on the lack of the absence of goodbye and the lack of preparation and premature of losing so early.
Her mother glance, so gently and warm at her immediately replied her own thoughts saying it would be fine and she understood, but she shouldn’t let that paralyze her in time. Instead, to use what she is missing as force to move and live and give so then she still have the feelings and experiences, but also, to be able to tell her in someday.
Moon caressed her mother name engraved in the frame and smiled tenderly.
“Oh, mother… I miss you so much…” She looked up to her mother face again, “If you only had known… So much changed. For both me, the kingdom, the future… I think you would have enjoyed a lot, maybe even more if things turned out fine by then” Moon bit her lip and shook her head avoiding to mourn again over the same thing. “It’s been so long. And oh you would love to have been around. I got married to River, I think you have secretly cheered on him all along. We got a daughter, Star. She’s amazing, mother. A truly troublemaker like no other and that gave me more headache than I ever could imagine a child could, she’s brave and kind… She remind me of you in so many ways that I can’t help but wonder how things would be if you two had the chance to meet.”
Moon looked to her mother’s painted eyes again and smiled. This time taking a moment of silent in admiration and taking in her feelings in the moment, not feeling the need to vent or say anything else. The comfort of being in front of the image of her mother knowing her own little family was just waiting her was enough. They may never be complete as she wish, but it was enough for now, just them, Star and her king, his parents and a night for both parts to enjoy reunion.
“Mom?”
Turning to the other side of the hall she smiled at the figured walking up to her, “Star! Is the dinner ready? I took more time than I should, we shall go.”
“Actually,” Star said raising one hand to her mother so she didn’t move as she continued to walk up to her, “I wanted to meet you a bit before, that’s why I am here. They can wait a bit more, I need to talk to you an important matter.”
Moon nodded waiting for Star to take her time to start talking, it was unusual for her to be so formal when they were alone, so the matter was truly important and deep inside it began to worry the former queen the peace of monsters and men could be at stake once more.
Star turned to her smiling gently calming her down, a smile she quite mastered well once she become older and was ready to take the crown. The joyful and shine was still there, but the calm in the smile showed that she had things under control to anyone around her. Her mother couldn’t help but feel a bit proud of such trait her daughter got from her grandma without knowing.
“It’s nothing bad, it’s… We had been talking and…” She looked away a bit unsure before asking, “How exactly does one announce a heir?”
Moon blinked, “You two are trying?”
“We had been talking and all…” Star replied as she looked to her wedding ring caressing gently, “We adjusted well and so did Mewni, we might be time… We don’t want Counselors into this. We want family, this was supposed to be a family thing not just… Crowns, gold and politics” Star sighed, “But they gonna try to see it that way so we aren’t announcing anything out of family until it actually happens. I wanted your opinion on it cause you’re my mother and sincerely, I have no idea on how to do this! How does one say this? Is there any ritual? Do I go through some weird stuff like Mewberty over again? I need to be locked up for security or show off to the whole world my husband hit me up? Do I-”
“Darling,” Moon said smiling gently caressing her shoulder, “First of all, take a breath before you pass out.” as her daughter tried to even her breaths she calmly continued to speak, “Secondly, I’m happy to see you two are to start a family, congratulations. This is a whole new start and as much I wish I could guide you into this part like I guided you in the wedding, I can’t do anything.”
“What?! Mom! Please help me!”
“Star, I can be there for you and help both of you and my grandchild when time comes. But times are different and, as you said yourself, this is a new era. You gonna need to learn by yourself and make into it, and make your way with your child, my way to walk was old and is past already, you’re building a new path and we are walking on it. Just like you’re building a path to later on your child gonna take the lead to continue building the path. All you have to do is make sure that you give the best you can and all the love it’s needed, the rest I’ll leave up to you, you’ll learn and know what to do. You know why?”
Star shook her head, eyes watered arms crossed in annoyance. Moon cupped her cheek and made daughter look at her.
“Because you’re Star. You’re my daughter, and you came to be better than I could ever manage to imagine.”
With quivering lips, Star hold her mother close and sniffed, Mon hugged her tightly and shred her own happy tears. Her little girl had grown so much, it was time to now watch time to watch her to start the new part of her life, she didn’t want to miss a thing. She would always miss to see her mother holding her, holding her up herself, but she wouldn’t trade that to holding her own grandchild for the world.
“Come on.” Moon said stepping back gently as they dried their tears, “Dinner will get cold.”
“Wait,” Star asked sniffing as she finished drying her face with her hands “You didn’t tell me about how to announce.”
“Hm…” Moon thought for a bit, “There isn’t really a tradition of formality for that, normally just an announcement that the queen is pregnant, some absences, and the announcement of the newborn heir. Don’t worry about it too much, just do what you think is best, ok?”
“Would that be ok?”
Moon hold her hand gently tapping gently for comfort “For sure. I trust you and your judgement Star. You’re not a Queen just for blood or names, remember that. You earned the crown, the people recognized and you made it clear.”
Star finally smiled fully and completely relaxed, not just passing the calm, but feeling and actually feeling the joy the occasion actually was.
“Now let’s go.”
“Wait!” Star held her hand.
“Star, at this rate the food will be frozen when we get there!”
“I’m sorry it’s just… argh!” Star sighed “I don’t know anything so I’ll just give it and be done with it.” Star turned around and took a envelope from a lace behind her dress and gave to her mother. “Merry Christmas, mom.”
“Oh, you and the Earth stuff.”
“Old habits die hard” Star shrugged, “Besides, this was fitting.”
Moon took the envelope and was about to put down when she realized how eager Star was to see her reaction to whatever gift was in there. Rolling her eyes to how the ruling queen was silently squealing like the time she was to be given the Wand, she opened the envelope.
Gasping at what she was holding and the message she looked back at Star for some sort of reassurance to which her daughter only nodded eagerly, “I wanted you to be the first to know, he doesn’t know either.”
Mom and daughter hugged each other tightly as happy tears and laughter were sheed, no more words needed, and to be fair Moon was glad cause she wouldn’t be able to say anything for the rest of the evening, she was just a bubble of pure joy right there like years ago she had been when she was told to be expecting.
Now it was different, but just as amazing as she looked at the picture again, the words “See you soon, Grandma!” made her smile widely once more before walking into the dinner room with Star.
She went through many things, but for sure she wouldn’t change for the world. The light of her life, River, Star, now her grandchild, were all things that worth every single battle and scar she had. She wouldn’t regret a single thing. Only enjoy every ray of light.
