Residents of Lammy Crescent in Omagh, Northern Ireland, were awoken in the early morning one winter night in November 2007. Their peace was shattered by deafening screams coming from somewhere nearby. As they looked out of their windows, an orange glow illuminated the darkness.

The 21st of October, 2009, started out like any regular day for Elizabeth from St. Martins, just west of Jefferson City. After school, her friend, Emma, had come over and asked if she could come over to her house to play.

Her mother, Patricia, was already preparing for dinner, but told Elizabeth she could go for an hour. Emma only lived down the road.

At about 5PM, Elizabeth left the family home dressed in a pink sweater, a t-shirt with butterflies on the front blue jeans and white shoes. She promised her mother that she would be back home in time for dinner at 6PM.

But 6PM came and went, and Elizabeth failed to return home. Patricia sent Elizabeth’s older brother, Anthony, over to Emma’s house to collect his sister. When he arrived, he was told that Elizabeth had already left.

By now, Patricia was frantic and she reported her daughter missing. The search for Elizabeth began without delay. The urgency was palpable as the community rallied together in the fading light.

Around 50 police officers descended on the area as they prepared to comb through every inch of the surrounding landscape. The neighborhood, which was usually quiet and still, buzzed with the activity of officers and volunteers alike, all united in the desperate hope of finding the missing girl.

As darkness approached, the officers fanned out in teams, their flashlights cutting through the dark skies. They were at a loss as to what happened to Elizabeth, but it wouldn't be long before their focus shifted to a local teenage girl with a dark history...
