hiya, i just wanted to ask about the robert/toxic fic your working on? if there's any crumbs you wouldn't mind sharing, i'd love to here them, they are one of my fav pairings :)

a few minor edits and additions were made since posting!

there isn't really ?? a formal fic or anything really, more just an au that has me in full brain rot mode about it. (any tags that start with "; fic:" it's kinda my catchall tag for all my formal fics + au's i write for / am happy to talk about.) i've purely been yelling about this au to my dispatch moots in the gc ^o^

BUT the villain hobert au is a combination of @sunnyfrenchfries robert is a ho au (aka he sleeps around a lot for stress relief) with just a general villain!robert au. (prepare for lots of nsfw if you click on that link if uh not obvious)

and it has basically turned from "haha wouldn't it be funny if robert accidentally became leader of a buncha villains because they're all bussywhipped by him" into a whole ass au with like lore.

a still not short enough tldr: elliot takes robert in the divorce (RIP astralshroud), still becomes a villain but robbie lives at least. eli does not force robert to become a villain / turn to crime, and gives him the choice. he chooses crime. for a long time it's just eli & robert; but eli eventually brings toxic on. from there, they are a happy lil crime trio for years. robert and toxic start to fuck like, literally immediately upon meeting ngl. (toxic also doesn't have the augments yet). anyways robert is, indeed, a ho. and whatever the two got going on is open and they're both chill w/ seeing others (it is, surprisingly healthy). i'll ramble about it below the cut. but robert does start to very slowly over time amass a tiny but loyal following of criminals and villains that he sleeps with regularly. it's only like one or two at first, tho that like latch onto him (one being the dragon guy). then this is like 2 years before game timeframe ish. but toxic & eli end up being caught and arrested. and robert is kinda left floundering because the two most important people are suddenly just. gone. so with extra stress relief needed as he comes up with a plan, is when he sleeps with more folks and that tiny loyal following grows. it is by no means full red ring status we see yet in the game. but the like core group. what would be roberts lieutenants and inner circle (z team). and they do eventually break toxic and eli out~ and basically what robert's amassed for a crew, becomes the basis of the red ring.

and i'm not normally a toxicmech fan, tbqh. or rather, i like them in hyper specific scenarios / hyper specific conditions need to be met, sorta thing, for me to normally like them??? and apparently this au is one of those hyper specific scenarios???

and my brain has latched on so hard to these idiots. and basically it's very much a like, healthy non-monogamy; they're very loyal to each other, like the only person other than eli that robert would stage a jail break for would be toxic.

mind you: they will not even call each other boyfriends, despite basically being married by that point.

anyways below the cuts a few random headcanons for these two in this au... includes mention (but not graphic) nsfw topics

firstly, just know that since day one of these two meeting, shroud has been in perpetual i love my idiot sons mode lmao

this is based off a piece from sunny's au + art they've done for it but toxic is really into shibari, and he gets robert into it. robert only trusts toxic to tie him up.

playing off like the name of rope bunny, and to be more subtle (and cute) -- when toxic wants to play and specifically tie robert up, he'll call robert bunny. only during these times tho. (or robert will like text him a bunny emoji, et cetera). it's not even necessarily like a once a week thing or stuff because both so busy (or just with others, et cetera).

something something (hyper?)sexual + demiromantic!robert my beloved

again they're basically married by like game event timeline, but don't even call each other boyfriends or partners or anything. but it's not like, denial or anything. more like, they don't need to. they know what they are for each other, and have figured it out. don't fix what aint broken.

part of that loyalty and trust comes with literal years of working together before present day.

@sunnyfrenchfries compared it to like, toxic marrying into a crime / business family, but he has all the perks of that but without the marriage. and they're correct. part of the reason toxic has kept working is eli (his primary boss) and robert have basically set him up with the best gig a man can get AND he has a lover in robert? insanity he will never give this up. even if he hadn't caught feelings, he'd never get rid of this perfect situation.

also i'm only gonna refer to him as "toxic" but my headcanon name for him is "jay" - is it a nickname? is it short for something? who knows, but it's not me.

also also, I do use his VA as some inspo. so i hc him as being gay. and he's, at minimum, half Japanese ; though considering thr Christian imagery of his tattoos and his yk job etc he's probably not Jewish. at least in the most literal (practicing) religious sense at minimum beyind that idk haven't gotten that far just yet 😅

i like the idea that robert was away, temporarily, when toxic was hired (and part of why he was hired). maybe for school, or a (crime) job, whatever. so when he came back into the picture, eli like took toxic aside and was like: 'hey, look new duties for you: robert's safety is my number one priority. his safety goes above the job, my safety or risk of jail, everything. and if mecha man astral or any of the brave brigade are around, in or out of costume, you must do everything you can to make sure robert stays out of sight and away from them. they cannot find him, even if he is masked. okay?'

and despite his personality and attitude, he does take his job seriously. and he is very good at his job (that's a whole other ramble) -- and he does take this seriously. like even if he didn't catch feelings for robert, like what shroud says: goes. it's just that simple.

toxic is actually one of the only people that knows astral is robert's (other) father.

this convo has happened you can't convince me otherwise honestly:

particularly by present day, this is just toxic pov:

toxic: *just cracked a guys ribs because he tried to steal a single cinnamon twist*

also toxic: *does nothing when robert reaches over and just takes his drink and takes a sip but it's like every 2 minutes*

i'm a "robert just has an insanely strong sweet tooth" truther first and person second (and just food motivated robert in general) and i just know in this au, ppl "bribe" him with sweet treats all the time. they're making his dentist earn their keep thats for damn sure, they're keeping him in business.

all this to say like, i think this how their specific kind of affection for each other shows is just tiny stuff like this. and it's the kinda little acts of affection they'd never do for others or allow from others pretty much???

mind you: they still bicker, fight, etc. like toxic is still a royal dick (ha), and robert is still robert even if more easy going and less perpetually stressed etc. but like yk.

1) im sharing the cute stuff and;

2) by present day they've both mellowed out when it comes to each other and know how to work together well (professionally & personally) (which also just goes for the og trio in general)

new:

so toxic is actually one of very few people who can (and does) actually take robert on dates, or just one on one time together that isn't centered on sex or work. robert doesn't seek it from everyone, nor would he want to; but that being said, i like to think for this au, robert does appreciate a lil wining and dining, he's just particular about it.

some others that (as of rn developing this) could / would / does take robert on dates: kaiju (my (villain) name for the dragon guy), and flambae. tho kaiju doesn't really do traditional dates per se, but he is one of the few robert would be fine with it.

uuhh anyways thats all i got for rn ^^' (i say like i didn't just ramble for a million years). ummm... yeah! lol anyways sorry to disappoint anyone potentially for it not being a fic or anything.
