Last year I spend New Year's Eve watching Supernatural. My plan with friends got cancelled, but I wasn't really disappointed because I didn't really wanted to celebrate it anyway.

I was glad to stay at home alone and just watch Supernatural. My last day of 2022 I started shipping Destiel and my first day of 2023 as well. It doesn't look like what people call a New Year's Eve party, but I had fun anyway. I wasn't feeling like celebrating for personal reasons.

So for you, people alone on this night because you don't have any other choice or for those who just don't want to celebrate this New Year's Eve like people think you're supposed to, let me tell you that it's ok, whatever you do or don't do.

And if you want to spend this night with those two idiots in love, I'm obviously talking about Dean and Cas here because they were a great company for me at the time, then i'd like to suggest you watch SPN, go through Tumblr, watch edit videos, or read some fanfiction. I wrote some myself if you want to check it.

Anyway, to all of you I wish you a Happy New Year. May we have a real announcement about SPN season 16. May we get to see a Destiel reunion on our screen (and by that I mean THEE Destiel reunion that we want). May this year be filled with gifs, meta, fanart, fanfiction and all our crazy ramblings about those two idiots because this is what fandom is about.

Last bit of Hyrule Warriors Link angst before I resume spreading the wealth to other characters:

At the end of the game, the portals are closed and every other Hero and hero Link fought with is gone. Those who knew Heroes as people, those who understood what he went through. Family and friends who had returned to the past and who Link knew were now dead in his time.

That had to be lonely as hell. That had to be horrifying as hell, especially watching the young Hero of Time walk away. OW.

Rewatching RamKing moments between writing sessions I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this scene in ep 9!

First of all, Lay’s hair once again is pure perfection! Watch this beauty! <3

Okay *cough* back to the topic. King just gave Ram the venus flytrap, resulting in Ram speaking to him. And King, genius as he is, instantly tries to find a way to use this new knowledge to get Ram to talk to him more. And it may be half a joke, but I firmly believe, King would have bought a new venus flytrap for Ram everyday if there’d been any chance of it working! And if that isn’t wooing, I don’t know what is!

King has long crossed the line of “I’m just curious how to get him to talk” and is now completely in the land of “I want to talk/communicate as much as possible with Ram!”, because let’s be honest: King may not expect anything and he may give everyone room and let Ram be, but he wants to spend as much time with Ram as possible and that right here is him confessing to it, even if it sounds like a joke.

Ram is being gracious and maybe a bit spiteful, continueing to talk again, reminding King he’s not always like that and there’s not reason to go to such extremes ...

And of course it backfires, because as King states so perfectly: This may be the case with others, but Ram’s behaviour with King is different and special. And King notices!

Well, if that isn’t gay panic, I don’t know. Ram is shook, because King noticed this and because Ram already knows more about his own feelings and wonders if King will realise what it means. And exactly that moment was probably the reason why he started repeating King’s words back to him, because he wanted to avoid the topic and his feelings. Aaaaaaaah, King is sooo close to knowing in this scene, already realising he’s especially special for Ram, but not knowing why yet! <3

Anybody ever think about My Bloody Valentine?

‘Cause I do!  Not the movie Jensen did although that does have some entertaining moments in it and Tom was a sweetiepie, but the SPN episode? That one where actual horseman of the gd apocalypse 1.0 - Famine, himself - tells Dean that he’s empty? “That's one deep, dark nothing you got there, Dean. Can't fill it, can you? Not with food or drink. Not even with sex.” After that episode?  They NEVER TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN.  Like, what?  That’s one hell of a major character building moment that theyyyyy seemingly do nothing with for the rest of the show (until now?).

I mean, granted, we all know that literally Dean’s entire life has been nothing but trauma after trauma after loss after betrayal after trauma.  But - this is coming from Famine, so that means, at least to my mind, that it’s pretty signficant. Also, just the structure of Famine’s words implies something else (again, at least to my mind, but I’m one of the OG Destiel trash pandas, so): he says Dean can’t fill the emptiness with food or drink (Dean constantly nibbling on pretzels, hot dogs) or sex (but seriously how long has it been since Dean even had sex, that they showed us?). IOW, all of Dean’s most favoritest coping mechanisms.   So what’s left to fill that emptiness?  Yeah, y’all, we been knew. But yeah, this is like... guys, I don’t want to get people’s hopes up.  So I won’t.  BUT. But.  The writers are going DEEP into the series - literally fucking 11 years, you guys, they’re going all the way back into the very back corner of the walk-in freezer of SPN plot arcs - to address this now.  This fundamental part of Dean’s character. Finally.   Like, I -- what else can you even think with a setup like this?!  Except for ‘this is totally going to happen, isn’t it?’

It’s so, so important that HC has been put in this weakened position where he has to depend and rely on XL, especially because he has a phobia of letting XL getting hurt and a complex for being the strongest, most capable person in the room who can protect others. it’s so good that he’s learning he can let go and let XL have the reigns ( though i don’t doubt he always trusted XL, it’s just two different things to let it happen than to feel it ), and they are able to both kind of recover from their own traumatic pasts in this regard--knowing they have someone that’s in the ring for them when they can’t fight. It’s also so heartwarming to see how happily XL will quite literally run for days on end if it’s to save HC, and how this previously solitary, if not melancholic god has relearned how easy it is to just be happy with the right people in your life just existing there. oof. love these two.

off on another meta-tear

That ending actually makes me real sad. Poor Henrik. He’s lonely and John won’t even hang out with him.

John really asked for Henrik via monkey paw didn’t he. Total pyrrhic victory and he knows it.

Some garbo about squad dynamics:

Kinda curious as to the “you’re not her” and “you can’t replace her” stuff going on this ep re: Rox. It’s like there’s some identity blurring that has gone on between the three of them that has to equalize now one is gone. John clearly saw her as an extention of himself with her mind in his possession, stealing her work and using her as part of his trial scenario. But he also saw her as an extention of Henrik, as Henrik’s beloved object and therefore untouchable. If Henrik thinks she’s great then she must be. Plus if she’s part of John then Henrik must love him too. But he’s killed her, which has caused Henrik pain. And like @albionsolutions said, this is a kind of suicide, the effects of which he hadn’t thought out properly before he went and did the deed.

Henrik on the other hand, as I put it in that last humungous post, relies heavily on John. While in the flashback he mentions Rox affecting him with her spirit and courage (he takes inspiration from her a great deal in this ep and is likely the only thing keeping him upright currently), this is John too. His edgy, out-there-ness clearly endears him to Henrik (”you’ll learn not to let him get to you *smirk*.”), but for whatever reason, John is “the [one he] trusts the most”, over and above Roxanna. He hides things from Rox, puts on a brave face, but around John he is utterly comfortable despite John being a habitual dick. That he has tried to rope John into an activity he shared with Roxanna is touching but bitter to John whose conscience is eating him. I’m gunna go with: Henrik is oblivious as to his own behaviour (precious beanpole) which is what John is calling him out on before Henrik just gives up words and hugs him.

I’d go on about what the boys mean to Roxanna but I honestly have no idea. That wasn’t something that was fleshed out very well. I think what they were trying to say in the flashback ep when Henrik tries to make her his assistant is that neither man sees her really as her own person and narritively, unfortunately, she’s not. She spends most of her time ensuring the men’s health (Ollie counts here too) - saving John and keeping an eye on Henrik’s post-Fredrik recovery. Selflessness taken to the extreme. In the flashback too she talks about how both of them are so great and accepting of her. And that That Night she was pleased that they let her have space to do her thing (even though they hadn’t). All I could really say for sure is that she seems to live for arguing with John - that’s how they all meet. But neither really has any perceptible effect on her personality. She used to argue with him - still argues with him. No diff. Had a crush on Henrik - still has a crush on Henrik. No diff. Still wears flamboyant clothing, still a swot....

Perhaps its the lack of honesty from Henrik and John towards her that means she doesn’t actually get anything meaningful from them. The way she reacted to John’s mask slipping kind of indicated that she may have very well changed/grown had she not immediately run into traffic.

Eh, its a moot point, she dead.

Speaking of running into traffic, they were also trying to draw parallels between Gaskell and Xav today which was, um, awkward.

hey! I love your meta about the paladins and their lions, and most of all Lotor and Lance. but that's besides the point. I just recently read your post about the paladins and their elements. Regarding the recent switching - Lance to flames, Keith to air and then to nothing - and the addition of Lotor to the Coalition, what do you think is the element/alignment of the sixth lion, or perhaps Sincline?

I think it’s fair to presume that Sincline falls to the same elemental typing as Voltron itself. Not only the same elements, but allocated the same way.

I think about this because of a scene that absolutely fascinates me in terms of psychology- s3e6, with the fight between the paladins and the generals.

The generals use a kind of  divide-and-conquer tactic where they attack paladins to keep them occupied. Narti (wood) is the only one to engage her counterpart, Pidge, and she does so while Pidge is tag-teamed with Hunk. Since Lotor isn’t present, it’s four generals fighting five paladins, but Narti is probably the least aggressive of the generals- she’ll strike, drop Pidge off her feet, and then withdraw and observe. She’s more direct with Hunk, which makes me wonder if the reason Narti is fighting her double is playing to Green Paladin virtues- that observation and sense of curiosity.

All of the other generals deliberately set out to avoid fighting their double, and to pit specific elements against specific people. Zethrid snaps up Allura right away and seizes her attention. Narti withdraws as soon as Lance tries to engage her and Acxa steps in, while when Keith intervenes and locks Acxa, Ezor jumps in- and Acxa resumes her attack on Lance as soon as he goes after Ezor.

What this would imply is that the generals are plying their own elements against the paladins’ by switching it up. Keith and Acxa, both fiery in alignment and empowered by fire, cancel each other out- firepower for firepower, they stalemate and can’t get ahead.

Lotor’s team is pretty much playing this like a game of pokemon where they’re pushing to create situations where they have the element advantage and their opponent doesn’t. Ezor (water-aligned, Lance’s counterpart) attacks Keith and trips him up by manipulating the situation towards her strengths of fluidity and adaptability, away from his strengths of intensity and high-energy.

In that sense, the implication raised is that Lotor, as an equal to Shiro, is a sky temperament. And frankly, I think we can look enough at these characters to know that if they were paired with Voltron Lions, which ones they’d align with. Almost everything about how Lotor operates is very Black Paladin. Presumably, this would suggest with a certain amount of finessing, Shiro could connect with the head of Sincline.
