🔍📜Byzantine men of the Despotate of Morea in a rocky landscape.
Marco Zoppo, Northern Italian School 1465-1474, Museum Exhibit Number 1920,0214.1.4 Donated by: Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery
The man in the foreground on the left is a Byzantine ruler who wears the characteristic Byzantine headdress while you can see above his clothes that he is wearing a cloak which we often encounter in the sources. He wears mixed Greek and Italian clothing. Opposite him on the right is another man who wears a turban which was often worn by the Byzantines. Behind them are two Byzantine warriors. Both are wearing a breastplate. The one on the left wears a sallet-type helmet. The warrior on the right carries the Heraclian Knot on his chest.
Information by Alexandros Drosos, member of the Historical European Martial Arts Academy. Found on the page Scholae Palatinae Byzantine Hoplomachia .
I would like to add that those tall and large headdresses, let alone the turbans, are often associated with Arabs and Turks. Actually, Byzantines (or Eastern Romans or Byzantine / Medieval Greeks) did wear such headdresses a lot, especialy during the late stage of the Byzantine empire. They occur very frequently in the sources. If you search in my blog with keywords like #byzantine empire or #historical fashion, you will find more such examples. Interestingly, Byzantines wore such sizeable headgear even before their wars and interactions with Arabs and Turks, however their headdress fashion definitely evolved by sharing and exchanging many elements with Persian, Arabic and Turkish fashion.

(2) Dimorphotheca ecklonis is an ornamental plant that is native to South Africa. This plant contains hydrocyanic acid, which makes it poisonous if consumed. (3) Cakile Maritima (Sea rocket) is a beautiful seaside annual plant found mostly in Europe, north Africa and western Asia. It is also present in North America on the East and the West coast, where it has the potential to become an invasive species.

"Sag es laut,
bitte sprich es einfach aus.
Kann dein Schweigen nicht mehr hören,
du bist stumm und ich bin taub.
Schrei mich an, bring mich zum heul'n,
sag mir, dass du mich nicht brauchst.
Ist egal was, aber bitte füll die Stille endlich aus."
