The headcanon that Nerevar gave Vivec Muatra: PEAK

Also Muatra coming from Vivec’s love in his sermons (I know that’s a metaphor for sex, but vivec loves his double entendres)

Y'know,

Obviously the people who called him "sweet Nerevar" were fucking him (Voryn especially) but given how little else we know about Nerevar as a person that's not shrouded in extremely biased post-madness/"enlightented" accounts, I like to believe everyone called him "sweet Nerevar" the way southern people say "bless your heart". I like to think Indoril Nerevar might have been strong of arm and dumb of ass. He had a harem of advisors because he knows how to do war and straightforward physical tasks but actual sociopolitical intricacies elude him. Nerevar deserves to be a himbo it would be so funny.

Just finished the Tribunal DLC for Morrowind..

Now Almalexia played me like a fool, but that's not the point in this. The point is,, I have a headcanon/idea/something?

Basically: What if the Nerevarine could go back to Clockwork City and run the city just as Sotha Sil had?

It begins after the fight with Almalexia, before heading back to Mournhold the nerevarine spends some time exploring and takes interest in certain aspects of the city (door mechanics, The Imperfect, the creatures, etc.)

They slowly begin to spend more and more time in the city in an attempt to discover how certain things works. People begin to wonder what's become of them but they're far too entraced in their studying to answer questions from others. Heck, even if they tried to explain no one would understand the intrigue.

The nerevarine is scarcely seen out of Clockwork City and is sometimes accompanied by strange mechanical creatures when they do make an appearance in public.

The nerevarine rebuilds clockwork city, they work endlessly to make the city feel as though Sotha Sil himself repaired it. Being the fact the nerevarine doesn't age, I can assume there would be plenty of time to do this.

They eventually gain the trust of the other creatures and soon find themself enjoying the company of the same creatures that terrorized them with their first appearance in the city.

The nerevarine lives comfortably, they feel their very soul lighten. At this point, no one even thinks they're still alive. Rumors spread about the hero going to Akavir and people just seem to accept this.

I can go on about this for days but here you have it-

Also, yes, I did almost cry when I saw Sotha Sil. And yes, this whole idea may just be me poking at a dead man with a stick.

I'm curious, what is Ralen's backstory?

Since his Elder Scrolls backstory is the one I consider canon I’ll start with that one. In Morrowind the protagonist starts off as a prisoner being transported to Vvardenfell. Though the game leaves it up to you what the reason for that actually is, a lot of people tend to favor the idea that the character was set up or framed as part of a plot by the Empire to undermine the tribunal and shift the power balance in Morrowind and that’s what I feel like that’s actually the most likely thing to be true for the TES III protag. That’s not what I did. I decided that Ralen completely deserved to be on that prison ship.  Ralen, at the beginning of his story, is not a good guy. He started his life as an abandoned street urchin who got picked up by a drug racket. He spent his teens and early twenties as a low-life drug dealer who sold skooma and other narcotic substances. The drug ring he was part of was loosely associated with the thieves guild, giving them some of their stock and earnings in exchange for help setting up a drug lab in the basement of one of the guild’s fences. Ralen eventually got savvy enough to take over the ring and expand the business, it’s hard to say if he ever had any second thoughts or mixed feelings, he’d be come dependent on his organization for money and protection from the law and Ralen, at his best and worst, has always had an avaricious streak. He knows what it means to have nothing, to be cold, and hungry, and hated. Many nights as a child he had shivered on a miserable cot, fantasizing about tables piled with decadent food and mountains of wealth. So much that he would never feel the gnaw of want ever again.

Because of this desire for wealth his favored clientele were members of the upper class. Over the next two decades he worked his way up, gaining access to the inner circles of Cyrodiil’s rich and well connected he was also able to gain a measure of influence behind the scenes. When he wanted a particular politician or nobleman to pull a few strings he used their addiction (which he made sure to keep fed) to sway them. This worked very well for Ralen and in time he thrived, very nearly achieving the abundance he craved and through his connections he continued to grow. Eventually he grew big enough to crush his competition and monopolize the drug market.  But this would also prove to be his downfall, Careful as he was to use aliases and false addresses there came a point where he got too big to hide. He ended up having to rely on the money and status of his clients to keep him out of the hands of the guards and it became a necessity to remain in the favor of a certain count. A count who eventually realized that Ralen needed him more than he needed Ralen. So now Ralen found himself in the precarious position of having to keep his patron happy while still hanging on to everything he’d built for himself. Not a great place to be when one is aware of just how far they are from the bottom where they started.  Ralen, however, is a crafty bastard and it became obvious to him that the count had a wife who was a lot more...malleable than the count himself was. So he started scheming. Get the wife’s favor, hook her on skooma then see to it that hubby has a fatal accident. Seemed like a great plan, except Ralen over estimated the wife’s tolerance for ingesting narcotics and she ended up dead. The count had Ralen arrested and Ralen was sentenced to death.  The night before his execution he was taken from the prison by carriage and then transported by boat to Vvardenfell. Where he begins his journey once again, cold, hungry and utterly alone. Not a single coin left of the fortune he’d spent a total of 30 years building.  Edit: I don’t know what I’m going to do for his Baldur’s Gate backstory but I already decided his background is “criminal” so maybe not that different.
